Hi All,

I've manage to get myself Intel Xeon W-3375 with Supemicro X12SPA-TF motherboard and so far I've managed to successfully boot OC and even managed to boot Big Sur/Monterey till PCI Configuration Begin.

I had to limit the cores inside the BIOS to only 32 cores since there is still 64 core limit in the Kernel on both Big Sur and Monterey, and per @etorix suggestion fake the CPUID.

Also there is a ACPI Error on the boot.

Any Suggestions?

OpenCore Boot log.

It looks like the system completes a first round of PCI configuration, and then initiates a new one and stalls. :surprised:

So, neither of npc=0x2000 or npci=0x3000 works. I trust that the BIOS is set as recommended, with Above 4G decoding enabled and Resizable BAR disabled. As it seems to be a PCIe issue, you may try omitting the npci boot-arg or disabling Above 4G decoding—that will probably make things worse, but just to be sure…

Enabling WhateverGreen maybe?

Otherwise, my only C621 experience, with a Gigabyte board, would suggest to try booting from a working OS X system on SSD rather than from the USB installer (but then I stalled at a different point) and/or to use less booter quirks: RebuildAppleMemoryMap, SyncRuntimePermissions, ProtectUefiServices, AvoidRuntimeDefrag…

(That was a serendipitous find, on a different board, so it may well not apply here. @yapan4's experience with the X11SRA-F is likely more applicable to another Supermicro workstation board.)

I’ll play with OC settings tonight see if I can move passed that. I just wished OC had the same ability to change the settings on the boot like Clover does does.

Yup and there is no Resize Bar on this board.

Also looked into patching Bios and can’t seem to find the correct CFG Lock line.

By the way oddly the Geekbench gives similar numbers with with 38/32 cores on multi. (Search 3375 on their site, all is me).

No result without HT (38C / 38T). You probably don't want to use it, although I think this option is a good temporary solution (until a macos for MacPro8.1 is released, of course without a 64-core limit😁)

Look on your DSDT : you can see which regions are missing 🧐

I think you should add : SSDT-RTC0-RANGE : https://github.com/acidanthera/OpenCorePkg/blob/master/Docs/AcpiSamples/Source/SSDT-RTC0-RANGE.dsl

You should also add XHCI-unsupported.kext

😉

0x0070, length 2 + 0x0072, length 2 + 0x0074, length 4 makes for a complete range 0x0070:0x0078 by my count; just like 0x0070, length 4 + 0x0074, length 4.

The typical broken RTC on C422/C621 (and I assume X299) is 0x0070, length 2 + 0x0074, length 4, with a gap at 0x0072:0x0073.

But if @Balamut is still stuck, anything is worth trying.

It may also be worth trying to remove SSDT-PMC. Based on the desktop and laptop guides, Comet Lake/Ice Lake is supposed to have native NVRAM, so it may not be necessary to carry along this Coffee Lake SSDT.

I think it's worth a try. From own experience: - stop on "PCI Configuration end" happens because of PCIe and also because of ACPI tables

I did some experiments with RTCs. RTC0 according to Dortania (0x70, 4 + 0x74, 4); RTC1 in one single block of length 8 (0x70, 8); RTC3 in three blocks (0x70, 2 + 0x72, 2 + 0x74, 4) as in the DSDT from X12SPA-TF. All boot.

Out of curiosity, I just disabled the system's AWAC and left the native RTC (0x70, 2 + 0x74, 4). It also boots, but the system crashed while left alone, possibly when going to sleep.

Maybe I should investigate further the stability of RTC1 and RTC3, compared with RTC0. But I doubt that the native RTC is the reason why X12SPA-TF is not booting at this stage.

Well after playing with it for a while I've got this progress.

Looks like it detects ACQ113
IMG_0048.thumb.jpeg.b50e36477aa21ceacd391dd4f6e40bc3.jpeg

But still stuck. Anyone knows what this ACPI Error is? Seems like the issue is in HEC2 and HWAK

IMG_0049.thumb.jpeg.2f87654451a6650e31593583a1a35701.jpeg

I just can't seems to make head and tails out of this HEC2 in the DSDT, HWAK is in IWAK at el.

Any suggestions?

Well done! Which changes have brought you so far?

The latest mystery is this "AppleNVMe Assert failed". I trust the NVMe drive is one that is known to work with OS X.

On the ACPI error your guess is as good as mine…

In SSDT-5.aml, \_SB.PC00.HEC2 defines a number of persistent variables in region H2CS in system memory.

Spoiler
        Name (H2ST, 0x0B)
//...
        OperationRegion (H2CS, SystemMemory, 0x0000200FFFF69000, 0x10)
        Field (H2CS, DWordAcc, NoLock, Preserve)
        {
            CBWW,   32,
            HIE,    1,
            HIS,    1,
            HIG,    1,
            HRD,    1,
            HRS,    1,
            Offset (0x05),
            HRP,    8,
            HWP,    8,
            HBD,    8,
            CBRW,   32,
            MIE,    1,
            MIS,    1,
            MIG,    1,
            MRD,    1,
            MRS,    1,
            Offset (0x0D),
            MRP,    8,
            MWP,    8,
            MBD,    8
        }

        Method (_INI, 0, Serialized) // _INI: Initialize
        {
            If ((HWEN > 0x01))
            {
                PETE |= 0x01
            }

            HWAK ()
        }

        Method (HWAK, 0, Serialized)
        {
            If ((H2ST & 0x0B))
            {
                HRD = 0x01
                HIE = 0x01
                HIG = 0x01
                OSRD ()
            }
        }

32-bit CBWW occupies offsets 0-3. "Could not map memory at 0x0000200FFFF69004" refers to the byte which holds the single-bit variables HIE, HIS, HIG, HRD and HRS. (Why does it have to be so complicated to fit all of this in 16 bytes?)

Upon creating HEC2, method _INI() calls method HWAK(), which initialises HRD, HIE, HIG and calls OSRD(). The first call to set HRD causes an error. This is the first time any variable in region H2CS is initialised or accessed. So the system probably cannot access this memory region. Why? Is some quirk interfering here?

Possible suggestions:

  • Ignore MAT support. Activate EnableWriteUnprotector and disable RebuildAppleMemoryMap and SetupVirtualMap.
  • Disable DevirtualiseMmio. Or define H2SC in Mmio Whitelist.

Edit. There is similar code in SSDT-4 of your Asus Pro WS C621-64L SAGE/10G, with a different base address for H2SC. It boots on EnableVriteUnprotector, without RebuildAppleMemoryMap and SetupVirtualMap.

Yes well done ! The boot doesn't seem so far away.

The first screenshot is exactly what I got  "AppleNVMe Assert failed", with my Asus X299 (refresh line end of 2020)  in my first tests  (with four compatible NVMe MacOS drive on it : tested on other  configurations). [my configuration is far from yours but I spent a lot of time alone before I was successful , I finaly managed to boot by changing and renewing my OC EFI and my SSDTs]

(Alternatively it could be a kext which conflicts with the PCI allocation but not obvious when I see the kexts from your EFI.)

@etorix 's suggestions seem good  ( thank you for explaining the ACPI error : very useful for me too )

 @Balamut

One thing i noticed :

I don't find Method (DTGP, 5, NotSerialized) on your SSDT-SBUS-MCHC from your EFI/ACPI :

Left side yours and right side mine:

It seems to be necessary for me.

Issue was with the NVMEfix kext

Attaching the EFI folder.

Gonna play with the BIOS maybe something in there is screwing things up.

Yes adjusting BIOS settings will help you.

My suggestions :

Disable :

- Intel® VT for Directed I/O (VT-d)

- Disable VMD

Super IO Configuration

I/O panel (COM1) disable

- serial port header (COM2) disable

- Serial Port Console Redirection disable

South BridgeUSB  :

Legacy USB Support

- XHCI Hand-off

Disable : PCIe PLL SCC, Port 61h Bit-4 Emulation

PCH SATA Configuration :

- SATA. AHCI mode and Hot-plug disable

Support Aggressive : disable

PCIe/PCI/PnP Configuration :

- Above 4G Decoding not needed for Polaris or Vega GPUS so i don't know if mandatory for RDNA GPUs : but  enable is recommended.

- SR-IOV Support, ARI Support, Bus Master,  disable

- MMCFG Base : auto

- NVMe Firmware Source : first try with Vendor Defined Firmware

- VGA Priority : onboard

Onboard LAN Device : LAN port 1 & LAN port 2 : enable

CPU :

- you can try with Intel Hyper-threading disable : this will limit CPU cores count supported by MacOs (people with Amd TRX40 processor use it)

- CPU P State Control : enable

- EIST : enable

EFI :

Change   SSDT-SBUS-MCHC

You need XHCI. kext or USBInjectAll.kext (the lastest when MacPro 7,1 is used)

Try with VirtualSMC.kext instead of FakeSMC.kext

Il will look on your config. plist later.

I'm very interested in your new setup, of course, as it foreshadows the new Macpro maybe 8.1. (as mentioned before)
Last weekend we talked about it with a friend of mine.
But these components are currently not available here and will be one day ...

So EnableWriteUnprotector does NOT do the trick… :(

Disabling DevirtualiseMmio, maybe? That's the last remaining suspect.

There's also something about XHCI and "AppleUSBXHCI unable to get device memory". Could that be related to the HEC2 memory issue?

The XhciPortLimit quirk isn't set.

What's the purpose of the IMEI device in SSDT-HEC1? I thought this was useful only for much older CPUs.

After playing a bit more I've got a new error:

RTC: registerInterrupt() failed e00002be

Was that before or after introducing SSDT-RTC0-RANGE?

One thing i noticed :

I don't find Method (DTGP, 5, NotSerialized) on your SSDT-SBUS-MCHC from your EFI/ACPI :

[…]

It seems to be necessary for me.

There's no DTGP() method in Dortania's SSDT-SBUS-MCHC template, and it's not called in there. Maybe you needed DTGP() for a Thunderbolt card and put the method here rather than as an extra SSDT, as usual? Anyway, the documentation says that SSDT-SBUS is not even needed to boot; I just find it easier to make the SSDT as soon as I identify the system bus in the DSDT rather than wait for post-installation.

CPUs and motherboards are making their way through retail channels, at least in Germany. Just avoid Mindfactory (known for indulging in grey imports and other shady practices).

 @Balamut

I updated your EFI -------->     OC   0.7.4  release from 04 October  just to help with the new version of OC (don't tried OC 0.7.5 for now : : new feature OpenLinux Boot)

I made some add/change

ACPI :

Added   SSDT XOSI

Disable SSDT PMC ( adapted to PMC1 according to your DSDT)

Booter :

Quirks : no change according to intel HEDT : to be adjusted if needed

Kexts : ( more recent than yours updated )

Removed ;

Radeonmonitor

FakePCID

Switched

FakeSMC to Virtual SMC

Added :

ASmedia  required for 11++

USBInjectAll

InteMausEthernet (complementary with SmallTreeIntel8259x but not sur)

NVRAM

Boot args -v npci=0x2000 darkwake=0 -lilubeta -alcbeta keepsyms=1 debug=0x100 alcid=7  : to bee adjusted if needed

Plateforminfo :

MacPro 7,1 generated with GenSMBIOS app

(Hope I don't make mistakes but double-check just in case after boot)

 😉

@Balamut

...and Clover as alternative.

Add you SMBIOS data.

VT-d should be enabled in BIOS!

Note to ACPI folder content: for My X11SRA-F do not need SSDT-PMC.aml, SSDT-SBUS-MCHC.aml, SSDT-EC-USBX.aml for boot.

So, firstly try this minimal set(SSDT-CPU-WRAP3.aml+SSDT-RTC0-RANGE.aml), then add SSDT-HEC1.aml and then others.

Yes, trying all these suggestions, possibly with variants, is going to get tedious. Write down every combination and its result to keep track.

May I suggest trying to boot both an USB installer and a pre-installed system on a SATA drive—to avoid the "NVMe assert" error for now?

Clover to the rescue! :thumbsup_anim:

For a really minimal setting, SSDT-PLUG isn't even required to boot, it's "just" power management. But I think that at least the EC part of SSDT-EC-USBX is required.

SSDT-PMC is certainly not required to boot a pre-installed system. Whether it is necessary to install Big Sur is something to investigate.

And the compatibility of the native RTC with OS X is also to investigate.

Sorry, I make mistakes, @etorix thanks for correcting. Post was edited.

The rest remains unchanged, because for the successful boot macos on X11SPA-F, I use only SSDT-RTC0-X11SRA (SSDT-PLUG.aml is ignored). This also applies to the installation flash drive...

Hi wasted couple of hours trying to figure out what's happening but it won't show the Installer on the USB, what's checked I in the config?

Does Clover have CFG Lock quirk? I couldn't find it.

Ok a few updates, after creating a new conf file with files based on @Loloflat6 work I got here.

IMG_0072.thumb.jpeg.4239b96f9eac4670426a1a6b445ef1ef.jpeg

IMG_0073.thumb.jpeg.34c50f1df0251f03c0b8a0433fc1bf4f.jpeg

Tweaking bios even more and disabling NUMA I got to this part and seems like we're VERY close to it.

IMG_0074.thumb.jpeg.55f7e8450660f6457b95e6da36811e55.jpeg

Then I noticed some small errors in the ACPI (PCI0 instead of PC00) I got to this:

IMG_0076.thumb.jpeg.5c5ce2573790694ce379e648dea61a8d.jpeg

After hitting reset I got the AppleNVME Error gone. but still same place.
