XFX R9 280X Black Edition,z87x-ud7-th with i7-4770k CPU Sierra Freeze and reboot.

So I got my machine working and boots every time. The only issue is, after I'm up and running I get reboots and freezes on my screen. If I have 1 ifinder window open things are fine, as soon as I open another finder window or safari and move the window around it freezes and crashes. Same when I make video big in youtube.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Any help would be gladly appreciated. My specs are as follow:

Gigabyte z87x-ud7-th with i7-4770k

32gb DDR3 1600mhz

XFX R9 280X Black edition

A side note, I did flash the bios on my GPU to UEFI, not sure why it's crashing and I did try to add the vendor ID and DevID in clover with inject ATI. I also do have lilu and Whatevergreen Kext installed.

Thanks again.

it might be your GPU being a XFX as I have read in internet long time ago that XFX 7970/280X use their costume BIOS which was some how problematic to run in Hackintosh, I used in that category of cards a MSI HD7970 Lightning, MSI HD 7950, Gigabyte R9 280X and now a MSI HD7970 TF and got to say never had any kind of problems what so ever, also without BIOS or config.plist modifications, they all worked OOB except now I added lilu and Whatevergreen Kext to my MSI HD7970 TF to correct the name and make all video ports working.

As you listed your problem it seems to be a video acceleration problem which is caused by the GPU

Assuming you have disabled on board card in BIOS and set the GPU as primer and made all other BIOS changes

Either use whatevergreen and lilu or use InjectATI=True don't use both, you card has built-in support in macOS and you won't be needing to add anything to your config.plist, However if you use WhateverGreen and lilu it will help macOS to detect the correct connectors for your GPU.

Is the iGPU enabled in BIOS? if so disable it and set primary to PEG or PCIe.

You can also send your EFI folder or the config.plist to see if there's a problem. Remove "Apple" folder, Serial Number, MLB, UUID from config.plist before posting it.

Thanks for the reply guys. For someone reason I didn't get any email notifications that there was reply's on my post, anyways I ended up buying a AMD Radeon R9 280X card that is Mac Pro compatible. No kexts or drivers needed and should work OOB. I put it in and I'm able to boot flawlessly overtime into my machine but the only problem is, it keeps crashing under stress. Anyone have any solutions to this issue. I'm trying to find online if I'm missing any kexts or files but I have newest lilu and whatever green kexts.

having issues loading my EFI folder. Keep getting this error , but it let me load my config.plist.

Is this the config.plist that you are currently using? If you are using WhateverGreen and Lilu DO NOT set the InjectATI=ture. the combination of these kexts and the InjectATI flag is probably the reason that your GPU is crashing. Use either the Kexts or InjectATI which I don't think you need it anyway.

Thanks man. I removed " Inject ATI"  and I'm still having graphic issues. Video from  my go pro play really choppy and laggy on my machine. It doesn't feel as responsive as it should if that makes sense.

Try Shiki.kext place it to the /EFI/Clover/kexts/Other folder.

Was hopeful, but it didn't work for me. Thank you  Wish I could solve this issue. My online content plays actually okay with less issues.  I think there's something else going on because I did a Geekbench and my scores seem really low for my computer specs.

(At the moment only have one stick of ram in my machine. )

You can send me the whole efi folder that you are using and I can take a look to see if I can figure out why your scores are so low.

You can remove "Apple" and "Themes" folders and also the Serial Number, MLB, UUID and smUUID if you have it.

If you could help me figure this out, I would owe you a big one man. I've been going at it for months now trying to get this thing running smoothly.

I tried to upload it again and got this upload error 200.

You can use DropBox or any other file sharing services to upload the folder.

Remove WhateverGreen use Hamachi as a framebuffer and just make a DSDT, then it should work without problem

Would this help solve my low scores on my machine or just my video laggy issues?

both, because as i have seen you don't have FakeSMC plugin's,  but you still need some things in config.plist

Oh okay, how do I create my DSDT?

So I removed WhateverGreen and added the framebuffer as suggested. How do I remove the whatevergreen multicast installs?

Ok, let's solve one problem at the time. Is the overall performance and/or video playback still laggy?

Yes, I have a file from my go pro and it's choppy. When I open folders or anything with OS graphics it takes a second for it to respond.

Thank you, I'll give it a try right now. Where do I put the SSDT-6 file at? Hopefully this solves it as it seems I don't see one in my current folder.

SSDT will do the things needed, to make DSDT, it require you to properly Disassemble your ACPI files, patch them for OS X then compile your DSDT, it may take some time!

Hi everybody i can't see the frequencies of the GPU in HWMonitor tab.
I have the last release 6.23
      Let me know.

      Thanks

Hey all. I'm not exactly new here, but I don't post that much. I recently installed a fresh copy of Sierra on my i7-3770k (mobo is an Asrock Z77 Pro 3), and all is well except for my GPU. I have an AMD R9 280x (ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5) and I'm aware that it's difficult to get OS X of any version to boot it directly without having the Intel GPU boot the system first. I'm aware of a user whose name I can't think of's scripts and whatnot to inject device IDs etc into Clover so it boots up as you'd expect with my 280x, but that's not working. Can anyone help me get mine working properly? I've tried to go through the personality tutorial etc but I couldn't get it working right.

It's important that I have utilization of my discrete GPU because I have a BlackMagic Design Intensity Pro 4k capture card out for delivery, and I'd like to use it and then use BMD's NLE (NonLinearEditor) called DaVinci Resolve to edit the videos I make. Currently I'm able to boot up with the onboard GPU as main, and then just have my three displays use the 280x, but the main GPU is still my HD 4000.

I hope I'm making sense here..

      Thanks in advance,

      Hello,
I have a splendid working machine with annoying hiccups... meaning, everything its working, and it is quite fast. Mostly I use it for video editing in Final Cut Pro X and After Effects. I carefully selected the mix in order to be optimized for FinalCut and Video editing and processing. I had a small hindsight about the XFX possible difficulties... but after sometime of trying different options, It is working (flashing bios method). I upgraded to EL CAPITAN about 2 months from now, and got wifi card enabled and working (before I was using ethernet cable mostly)... Everything goes well and smooth, and at times it hangs, and sometimes shut down, and stays in a reestarting loop (2 or 3 times loop max) and stays fine for some other time until it hangs again or freezes... and again same thing... I NEED HELP !!! I require a reliable, robust, and stable machine!... can any of you experts give me a hand on this! Thank you in advance...

OSx: Yosemite 10.10.3 on EFI (Clover)
MOBO: MSI z97 SLI Krait Edition
      CPU: 3.6 GHz Intel Core i7 - 4790
      GPU: XFX R9 28x
      RAM: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
      SSD: KINGSTON 240G SV300S37A

Everything works fine... and around 4 months ago I started getting crashes few times a day, the screen goes blank or freezes and it doesn't respond to any commands, I have to force reboot (Restart Key) and it goes fine after that... Please help me find a solution... it works, but sometimes it gets annoying... specially when in critical video editing moments, or client visits.

At times when i have to force reboot, the system gets a bit damage, and I have to go through a process of maintenance of hard disks and all (SSD system disk, or HHD system Backup disk)

Hi, I am trying to work out why my R9 280X is taking about 10x or so longer than the intergrated HD 4600 graphics to export videos with H.264.

      My system:
      Mb: MSI Z97 PC Mate
      CPU: i7 4790k
      GPU: MSI Twin Frozr R9 280X 6G
RAM: 16GB 1600Mhz Team Elite Plus

I am using Clover and after a lot of researching I have discovered that it's to do with the H.264 acceleration in the HD 4600 chip that's making it so fast but surely the 280X has this?

I am using Final Cut Pro X latest version, 10.2.2 and I know the GPU is fully working perfectly as I did the BruceX test which gave me a whooping 15 second result so if I was using just Apple Prores, then it woulr be no problem but as I do not have the space for prores and I need to use H.264 anyway afterwards as I am doing videos for YouTube, just doing straight to H.264 is the quicker from what I have seen as Mpeg Streamclip isn't giving any speed increase converting prores to H.264.

Does anyone have any idea what I need to do as I do want to use the 280X but I do need fast exports like hd 4600 with h.264?

A video that takes over 10 minutes to export as h.264 on the 280x took about 40 seconds on the hd 4600.

I did follow the guide on 'censor' but as it's all clover now, it's no different than the methods here how I did the install. Just stating for the record incase anyone asks what I did.
