toddicus
LOL. Well, MY 805 is SSE3 compatible at least ;-p They are SSE3 capable, but it never seems to show up in the system profiler. This has been the case since the beginning for me. Even making sure not to install SSE3 patches. Back to 10.4.1 it's never shown SSE3 capable, it's very odd. But it works, you can even use the mifki kernel, works fine so I'm sure it has it. armus2112
Cool, in a nutshell I'm planning to purchase a setup very very similar to yours (same MB). Just want to run some info by you. really_guest
All works in these motherboard, sleep too !! (Yes, you press "Stop" and it "stop" really ) Audio integrated works with a little hack (just modify 2 number in a plist file) My PCI Firewire works great (I've already imported my MiniDV film from camera) Sata works great. The VGA integrated works really good (I've played "Tony hawks pro skaters 2" ) and some other game... Buy it !!! But remember, upgrade the bios to 1.4 for the dual core! Schweppes
Congratulations for your system !!! armus2112
really_guest: I really want to build a system similar to yours. I hope you can answer these questions... 1- detail what steps you took to install the OS and any subsequent tweaks which were necessary. What custom patches did you select? 2- I have downloaded '10.4.6.install.dvd.iso', 'Mac-OS-X-10.4.7-AMD.Intel-(JaS)-ISO-Repack' and 'JaS.10.4.8.SSE3.Intel.Only.iso'. Which one did you start with? 3- You installed straight away to unformatted SATA HD? I am going to stick with IDE I'm pretty sure. Do I have to do any partitioning? I read something about using Fdisk extended from Hiren's boot CD to set the partition as active. Did you have to do this? Also read some stuff at http://www.osxx86.info/installguide/installguide.htm ... Any other disc prep I need to know about? Anything you can detail will be very helpful. Here is hardware I'm considering. Fairly low budget... I look forward to your reply, thank you. really_guest
I've select: 1- USB 2 - Azalia (for sound) 3 - GMA 900 (in 10.4.7 or GMA 950 in 10.4.8) Use JaS.10.4.8.SSE3.Intel.Only.iso with the patch for usb and for the system profile. Works great. I've installed on IDE Hard Drive, not yet tested on sata Buy a little HD (20GB for 30$) and use it for master/slave solution For your hardware, is ok, execpt for CPU: buy a dual core, not a celeron: works very well in multithreading process. For the RAM remember the dual channel mode. If you tell 2 GB in dual channel, yor system will fly (OSX need MOOORE RAM) It's all! Tell me if you need more support! armus2112
I thought you started from 10.4.7. You think I should install from the 10.4.8 Jas DVD? For audio did you use this to get it to work? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=18642 Are the USB and GMA patches part of the 10.4.8 patches, so I can just select them during install? Can you comment about the drive preparation (partitioning etc?) Thanks very much. I'm building a budget system here so I'm going with Celeron D 3.33Gz. really_guest
10.4.7 + jas 10.4.8 patch = perfect 10.4.8 = I'm just testing it (network wont start..today I'll try the new kernel) For audio output the howto is great, but the microphone not work. If you like skype, you need to buy the usb c-media for 9$. I've it and it's perfect! armus2112
10.4.8 = I'm just testing it (network wont start..today I'll try the new kernel) Hmm okay. Please update the thread on your progress. Anything you learn to get it working would be very useful. Thank you. p.s. why are you bothering to do this? why not stick with 10.4.7 + 10.4.8 upgrade? armus2112
progress on my PC ============ I've assembled my PC (hardware: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32683#) & installed 10.4.7 JaS DVD. Disc prep was easy, simply used Disk Utility to partition and prepare the drive during the pre-install DVD setup. I chose 'Customize' & selected just 3 patches during install (the "Intel.10.4.7.Combo.Update", "Intel.SSE3" and "10.4.7.GMA.Support". Installed and booted okay. After install, I setup my user account. Video (with QE), USB, network, sleep, everything worked except for audio, as expected. I did 'passwd root' to reset the root password. I applied the audio fix described at http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=18642. Selected "reboot" after this procedure and the PC locked up looping a sound on the PC internal speaker after hard boot, audio came up! After 5 minutes, when running iTunes & listening to an mp3, I clicked on the Spotlight on upper right for 1st time and PC immediately gave me the "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds......". Rebooted, and the PC has been stable since. Used for maybe 2 hours with no hangs. Audio works, Spotlight doesn't cause hang, About this Mac works, System profiler works, Quartz Extreme is enabled, my Xbench score was 879 or something. I haven't tried microphone but pretty sure it's not going to work. Otherwise all my hardware seems to work pretty nicely. Haven't done any other upgrades or other tweaks as of yet. Will continue to bang on it. uname -a shows 'Darwin Kernel version 8.4.1'. System Profiler: Mac OS X 10.4.7 (8J2135) One more thing: DVD playback from DVD drive is a bit choppy. solved by installing _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32683-my-perfect-desktop-system-tm/#findComment-240660 Share on other sites
really_guest
ok, with 10.4.8 dvd I've got finally my perfect system. Installed the apple's patch named: IOUSBFamily-261.4.2(Intel)-log.dmg (don't click the -log.pkg file): USB work back. Addedd the network with the 10.4.7 kext driver (AppleRTL8139Ethernet): Network work back. Finally I've copied the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext from 10.4.7, repaired permission, restarted with -s -x and then regenerate my kext with: kextcache -k /system/library/extensions -z -a i386 kextcache -e -z -a i386 Quartz and CoreImage work back ! Ah, remember to put last mach_kernel in / with correct permission. After that, the system fly ! That's all. Super.
