jrrjrr
Thanks JaS. Patchburn and the new VLC build helped here a great deal. Before, I could use the old VLC only to watch a particular file off a DVD. Not the whole deal with menus, etc. And the display was mis-proportioned -- way too wide. Now, with these two changes, A DVD plays just from pointing VLC to it, with working menus, and a correct display. This is with an nVidia 5200. The vid is a little slow still, but decent enough. Thanks again. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3212-how-to-commercial-dvd-playback/#findComment-20384 Share on other sites

Your welcome, happy to help & Im glad it worked for you and here is another tip,in the vlc preferences under video-->filters check deinterlace filter.it will give you alittle more speed it seems.also if you have to play the dvd video size.then it will play smooth Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3212-how-to-commercial-dvd-playback/#findComment-20386 Share on other sites
thrunner
Good work JaS, It works with the newer VLC version VLC_20050924_x86_bin.dmg, not the 0825 version. No QE/CI here so it is a little slow, but watchable. It is strange that stated on the Patchburn FAQ: Q: Does PatchBurn 3 give me support for viewing video DVDs? A: No, all reading capabilities are enabled in Mac-OS X by default. PatchBurn has no influence on that. If your drive does not read DVDs or CDs, there must be another hardware problem e.g. wrong jumper settings, defective cable or defective drive In addition, does it work with DVDROM? Q: Does PatchBurn support CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives? A: No, PatchBurn only supports CDRW and DVD writers. CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives won't need PatchBurn. Since they are read only devices, they should be supported by Mac-OS X right out of the box. thrunner
I don't think you can see QE option if your graphics is not installed properly, ie your setup doesn't support QE/CI. Actually on one setup using a Asrock/Intel 915GL board , I couldn't see this option even though QE/CI was enabled. ghw9132
Well then you are the first person I know of that this doesnt work.I"m sorry its not working for you. Could you explain where the option is for raw axx in Patchburn? EDIT: Re-downloaded patchburn and VLC from the links provided. Set everything to true in patchburn, even installed iDVD 4 support with no luck. The system profiler now shows the drive as Vendor Supported, however it still does not work. I am still unable to find any reference to raw axx in patchburn or the configuration file created by it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks EDIT #2: Tried Xineplayer and VLC 8.2 PPC, still no go. Zeze21
hey thanks for the info i got it to work but i am facing somehow a problem: the "smoothness" of the movie depends on the window size... the smaller the window the smoother the video runs... i have a asus z9100 laptop (1.6ghz sse2 centrino ati 9700 mobility radeon 512 mb ddr ram) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3212-how-to-commercial-dvd-playback/#findComment-21847 Share on other sites
