Dark_Elf
I used the last Titan The problem is that the AMD kernel works only in VMWare and I work native. MacRetail
I restored all the kexts files and my system works fine like it used to. So no succes, i think we will have to wait for a 10.4.8 kernel for Intel SSE2, and my GeForce3 will have to wait 'till np_ releases Macvidia with OpenGL support. ptesone
I know there's a JaS 10.4.8 SSE2 Intel Only Combo Update I wonder if that would help you -just do a torrent search to find it I tried the Nov 2nd Titan.kext with an updated JaS 10.4.8 AMD SSE2 Only Combo Update using the latest 10.4.8 drivers with no avail. . . I got sick of re-installing my OSX every hour so I backed up my /Library & /System folder with cp -r /Library /backup/Library and cp -r /System /backup/System so now when things break I can login with -s and delete the Titan.kext folder by doing /sbin/mount -uw / & rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Titan.kext and if it's really broken I also remove the old /Extensions folder by doing rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions and cp -r /backup/System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions to replace the broken /Extensions folder with the working /backup/Extensions make sense? I also think that one must have: 1. an Intel CPU with at least Semthex's 10.4.8 kernel -I don't have an intel so I can't try it 2. extreme luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31816-titankext-with-1046-its-not-useless/page/2/#findComment-223602 Share on other sites
MacRetail
When you have restored the Extensions folder, you should type "diskutil repairpermissions /" However, this command doesn't work if you haven't typed in "/etc/rc". Don't wait till /etc/rc is done, you should press some keyboard buttoms, untill the command line returns and THEN you can type "diskutil repairpermissions /" After that you should remove the Extension cache: "rm /System/Library/Extensions.mpkeg" "rm /System/Library/Extension.cache" (or something like that, don't remove the extensions folder ;-) ) And then just: "halt" to shutdown your Mac. ptesone
Oh yea, I forgot those steps except instead of "halt" I do a "reboot" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31816-titankext-with-1046-its-not-useless/page/2/#findComment-223618 Share on other sites
MacRetail
I think we need: A. 10.4.8 kernel for SSE2-intel-processors (should be released soon) B. A modern grahics card from NVidia (my GeForce3 won't be supported, i fear) post scriptum: The 10.4.8 Combo Updates come with the old 10.4.4 kernel, not with the new 10.4.8 kernel. There is a JaS Install DVD with the new kernel, but it's SSE3-only. Oh yea, I forgot those steps except instead of "halt" I do a "reboot" That doesn't matter, if you repair disk permissions i'm sure your method will work. PascalW
I've tried coolbits method but it doesn't work for me. Right after it starts login window I get some errors like: Login Window [68]***warning: Method_CGSevent in class NSEvent... and then something again with login window. So what could this mean? I've put back my old extensions folder and now everything working again, but with no succes for titan.kext I have a GeForce 6600gt PCI-e btw and I'm running 10.4.8 AMD with old kernel. ChiefWiggum
YeeeHaaah !!! Got Titan.kext working finally !! In my case I had to use the 10.4.6 version of IONDRVSupport.kext (version 1.4.2) (With the 10.4.8 version of IONDRVSupport.kext, it use to stop at the loading screen) No CI or QE but still better than the macvidia 1.0.8 for my card. Kexts used : IONODRVSupport.kext (10.4.6) All other NVidia Files (10.4.8) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31816-titankext-with-1046-its-not-useless/page/2/#findComment-224644 Share on other sites

Fernando Birra
Hi All! Since I still have my old 10.4.7 system up and running, side by side with the new 10.4.8 (with mifki's kernel) I decided to do some testing on Titan in my older system. Here are the results I got for you to interpret... Jas 10.4.7 + Titan + 10.4.8 NVidia drivers (IONDRV taken from 10.4.4) + OpenGL.frawework from 10.4.7 Jas 10.4.7 + Titan + 10.4.8 NVidia drivers (IONDRV taken from 10.4.4) + OpenGL.framework from 10.4.8 And, finally with real 10.4.8: As you can see, it is better to use the OpenGL framework from 10.4.8. It will not give you QE or CI but rendering is really faster. Just try it for yourself. If you have XCode build the OpenGL demos and try them. Just wanted to share this findings... Dark_Elf
For the black screen I read HERE that the problem is in NVDAResman.kext and it must be removed (losing QE/CI, but we didn't have it at all ). I will give a try with it. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31816-titankext-with-1046-its-not-useless/page/2/#findComment-225134 Share on other sites

If it works, try putting the GeForce.kext back in place and alter the plist file to only match the device id of your card - right now it matches anything with nVidia's vendor id, which made it crash on my nForce4 board. wadewa
Worked perfectly for me : AMD (SSE2) JaS 10.4.7 Titan.kext + IONDRVsupport (1.4.3) + All other NVidia Files (10.4.8) I removed macvidia driver, but i can't see a big difference. Thanks anyway to omni and np_ who helped a lot by doing these drivers. I hope we'll have a AMD SSE2 patch for the last kernel. I would like to have at least a decent display of movies in fullscreen. ChuckDSanders
Ok so I must be mentally handicapped because I can't decipher what everyone is saying. You can look at my specs below to see my hardware. I have 10.4.7 installed and then did the kiko 10.4.8 update, so I am assuming that I have 10.4.8 and this Kext would apply to me? Furthermore, does this bring any type of 3D support, and don't laugh when I ask this, is QE CI support mean a sort of 3D support? What kind of advantages are there with this Kext vs the macvidia driver? Again I apologize if I sound like a dolt, but I am still learning all of the ins and outs of OSx. Thank you again for all your help. MacRetail
OK, i installed the new Titan.kext with all 10.4.8 kexts listed in this topic (exept NVDAResman.kext). It boots up, System Profiler show my NVidiacard as an NVDIA Geforce 3 Ti 200 (so it shows it corretly). QE/CI are disabled, no real speed difference noted and i can't change resolutions.
