Wowfunhappy
Hello! I got OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan up and running on my Z170 system yesterday. Aside from some minor issues with Ethernet and sound (both of which I was able to work around) everything is pretty much great. There is however one problem that I don't understand: I have a single stick of 8 GB DDR4 RAM installed on my computer. OS X, for whatever reason, thinks that I only have 4 GB of RAM installed. Windows has no problems detecting and using the full 8 GB. What on earth could be going on here, and how can I troubleshoot the problem? I'm not sure how to proceed. Let me know if you need any more information. Thank you so much!

Wowfunhappy
Oh, that reminds me: I'm using an MSI Z170A PC Mate. I wonder if this is an MSI-specific problem.

bronxteck
have you tried moving the ram from bank 1 to bank 0? your dump states 4 slots of ram and your 8 gig module is on bank 1.

fminus
Could is be that no Mac/iMac officially support DDR4 at the moment?
jancarlos1597
Could is be that no Mac/iMac officially support DDR4 at the moment? I don't think so, 2 or 3 users had the same problem, they resolved it by pressin f8 in the bios and selecting the clover bootloader manually, that doesn't work for me unfortunately. Wowfunhappy
Could is be that no Mac/iMac officially support DDR4 at the moment? Except that DDR4 has been working on X99 motherboards for a long time. Slice confirmed that this problem is due to a bug, so that's what I'm waiting on atm. Wowfunhappy
OMG, I fixed it. It was such an easy fix, I can't believe I couldn't figure it out until now. In Clover Configurator, I added the following (click the plus sign): Obviously, change these values based on your RAM. YOU MUST FILL IN ALL VALUES. It's okay to put in "Unknown" for some fields (I did, as you can see), but everything must be filled in. This is what stopped it from working when I first tried several days ago. (I'm sure you could accomplish the same thing with textEdit instead of Clover Configurator.)

richtig
If you're able to dual-boot with Windows, the free program CPU-Z should be able to provide actual data in place of "unknown". http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/cpu_z.html
Tightlovin
Guys, SMBios in Clover is only cosmetic procedure! Run memtest on your computers and see how much memory is really working! bronxteck
some bios limit the amount of ram to 4 GB when the option in bios is set to "OS install" mode or "compatible" it helps with older OS environments that can only read 4 GB of ram like older 32 bit operating systems. IE windows 95 or 98. maybe recheck your bios settings.
