tripleboot
It looks like the Vista team is deciding on a RC 2 build 5743 release. Originally they said they wouldn't do this but when is MS ever follow through with release dates. Last build before RTM. We'll maybe. http://www.windowsitpro.com/Articles/Index...=rss&subj=

rollcage
i think i might just wait and try to get the rtm when it is "released". i'm sure somebody will leak it. i'm tired of reinstalling my os every couple weeks, 5728 should be good for now. tripleboot
i think i might just wait and try to get the rtm when it is "released". i'm sure somebody will leak it. i'm tired of reinstalling my os every couple weeks, 5728 should be good for now. I had 5600 and 5728 installed and just deleted 5728 the other day. I enjoy my gaming and MS is still along way off with Vista and gaming, or I should say the drivers from the software gaming companies aren't quite yet at Vista capability but I'm still wondering where Vista is at with DirectX. Maybe they'll unvail the big flashy bootup screen and sounds with RC2, but I doubt will see that until RTM. Let me count here how many Longhorn/Vista builds I've installed..... Looks like the next RC2 will be the 15th build I will have installed and to be honest I'm pretty burned out with LH/Vista and will be glad to have this thing finalized and out to the public. rollcage
But, is this the RC2? Do RC1 keys work on it? I think don´t yep, this is "rc2" and keys from previous builds will work. there isn't officially an rc2, but that's what it is being called. it's the build before M$ does rtm. tripleboot
I started with LH 4033 and if I count 64bit too, I have done 14 installs From the horror storys I dont think Im leaving 5728 just yet Those were some Long install times on those early builds if I remember right. I was BSOD all over the place and had no clue about partitianing a hard drive. Its been amazing to me joe75 how Mac and Linux can put out such smooth and crisp OS's in much much shorter time then it has taken MS with Vista. The LH/Vista project has been such a cluster **** that has reflected precisely the bloated management and just too many talking heads at MS. I really hope they learn from this project. I believe Alchin is retiring soon when Vista is completed.
joe75
Very, very long I think Vista will come into its own in maybe 2 years or so when we have better hardware to show what its got. Lots of people that talk {censored} about Vista and M$ forget that there on XP equipped machines When everyone is using quad processors and pumping DDR3 or 4 memory then will see how she runs. But 4033 to 572whatever, Back then I wouldn't of seen Vista looking as good as it dose. If SuSE 10.2 impresses me as much as 10.1, I'll be saying Vista "'who" And everyone has to look out for Leopard. If that keeps improving Ill be buying a mini. joe75
I lied, I installed 5744 64bit and I love it I'm still stuck using ATi RC0 drivers though. This build put Vista back to being the C drive by default, the last two would list it where I put it "if you know what I mean". I recently read Vista will be allot harder to pirate with new changes to WGA. If caught they will shut you down after 30 days, and then give you 1 hour per day of access to try and get a legit key. I can already see nightmares of people not being able to reinstall or install on other machines, and since this is supposed to be implemented right in Vista I'm sure it will be worse then problems people face now when real keys wont pass validation Vista is looking excellent and OS X or not, I cant wait for it to be done

br0adband
I'm running Vista RC2 (not at this exact moment though) on the 15" MacBook Pro I got over the weekend. All I can say is... WOW. Talk about fast. Good lord, it's incredibly fast compared to the old versions, even the last post-RC1 build. I mean it screams, seriously. Can't say how it'll run on anyone else's hardware, but I have to say I'm damned impressed with how it has "magically" come into this speed boost. Just my experience... so as for needing two years to get the hardware to run it, I'd say nope, it's already here, but the most basic concept is if you intend to run Vista and you want all the goodies to work properly as it's designed to do, if you have a computer over 2 years old, dump it and get a new one. 1-2 years old, new video card is almost a necessity depending on what card you presently own. RAM is the second big thing after video: get the most RAM you can possibly afford, 512MB barely loads it, 1GB is better, anything over 1GB is pure candy. I'm running it on the MBP with Core Duo 2.0 GHz, 2GB of RAM and that 80GB 5400 rpm SATA laptop drive with the ATI X1600 128MB video chip, and it simply amazes me everytime I do something. I'm considering getting the Hitachi 160GB 5400 rpm perpendicular drive since it outperforms even 7200 rpm drives. Expensive drive though, almost $200, but since I plan to do video work on the go, it will come in handy having that space and a better performing laptop all around. bb

I was referring to future hardware, ram, cpu, bus capabilities and stuff like that. Vista is using too many resources but it has allot going on. Think if you had 8GB of DDR4 ram at say 2Ghz, it might not seem like your using any resources. It took XP awhile to get things strait, don't forget. 2 years may be a little drastic, maybe 18 months

You and I both know joe75 the hackers are always a step or two ahead of those security blocks. Its a joke really but you have to give MS credit for trying. Im confused. I'm not finding any live links connecting with MS server, just kicking back to Vista homepage. You might have to go with a torrent on this for now but I'm sure those speeds should be pretty fast.
