i want to sell my hakintosh on ebay to help pay for a mac pro, how would i sell this pc with osx86 without breaking the law?

You can't. Even when you download OSx86, you're technically breaking the law. They just don't know about it :sorcerer:

However, I wouldn't go selling pirated software (which basically is what OSx86 is) along with a computer. Especially on eBay... Worst case scenario: Steve Jobs buys it :)

what if you said "i cant say if i have it, but there is a 99.99999999999 percent chance i do, it will be an extra." some guy sold leopard that way

i might have the 10.4.3 disc, saying might 2 be safe

that sucks, my computer has gone down in value since the core 2 duos have come out

i would think u cud if u word it right, ehh, whatever i will have 2 find a new way to get that cash

Sell it to a friend.

or sell it on Craigslist.

How much do you think having hacked Mac OSX on the computer adds to the value?

That is - how much can you get for the computer without an OS

the how much do you think you can get for it with hacintosh installed?

if the value increases $50 then is it worth taking the legal risk?

From what you have said already - you really wanted to hear that you CAN do it.

So be a pioneer and do it and then tell us if it was worth doing.

Simple as that.

Thoughts?

Out of curiosity - what is your setup and how well did it work?

If it worked well then maybe someone here would buy it from you.

it is a pentium D 3.0ghz, with an intel D915GAGL mobo, i think, the graphics and sound work well, 200gig harddrive, broken 80 gig harddrive 16x dvd-r, rw, and all the other possible Rs you can think of. it also has windows xp and all the office stuff.

the only lame defense we have for downloading these programs for free, is that we don't profit from them, or make a living doing it. nothing lost, nothing gained.

selling warez will screw you with ebay, there is no doubt. you'll be reported so fast it'll make your head spin.

sounds like you could sell that hardware to someone however. ;)

The general consensus seems to be that it would be a bad idea, and I tend to agree. Even if you brought it as close to being legal as possible (ie including a legitimate OS X CD / license), it would still technically be illegal. Not only could your ebay account be shut down, but think about what's going to happen when the average user (who probably won't understand the implications of the hackintosh - even if you try to spell it out for them) finds they can't run an update, or runs into some other problem and contacts Apple... it could easily come back to bite you in the end.

That said, things could go perfectly fine (you might get away with it), but there's always the chance you won't. I honestly don't believe that you will derive a lot more income by selling it with OSX installed anyway, because the only types of people really that interested in running it on a PC are typically the ones who will find osx86project and do it themselves. The average joe on the other hand would inevitably run into problems, and if they paid a premium for your hackintosh, they'd probably become quite angry, believe they got scammed, and try to do something about it.

Just my opinion though, I'm sure others will vary. Regardless, the suggestion to simply sell it here is probably better (at least most purchasers would understand the issues involved in running OSX on a PC), although still, I don't think you're going to get much of a premium for the system as opposed to having a blank hard drive.

Good luck in whatever you decide though.

Why would you be selling a BROKEN 80 gig HD?

Here is an idea for you.

Take the HD out of the computer.

Sell the computer and the HD separately.

Each item on its own is probably not illegal

Your price is absolutely retarded if you are thinkin of US dollars.

the price is inadmisible, but he can sell it maybe as 100% osx86 compatible hardware :compress:

i have seen in ebay some videocards and wirells usb cards being sold in this way... its no truly illegal i think... but i can be mistaken..
