worked!

let me explain.. could be useful to more people..

solution

since already created a partition to install so many times, i removed the partition created, and left a space unallocated in the disk

used the diskpart in windows (start>run: diskpart)

typed some commands

select disk 0 (my disk, use list disk to see all disks and select what u want)

create partition primary id=af (ALL unallocated space in same block in the disk will be used to create this partition)

exit

did boot with the mac os x86 (jas 10.4.7) dvd

on my system i cant mount my new volume.. so i cant install the SO (yes, a mounted volume is needed)

then, in diskutility, selected the recently created partition, and click "verify disk"

(i got an error, tried repair, din't work)

hit erase, select MAC OS Extended Journaled (this option come already selected), and a name

then hit erase and confirm..

verify again (i got a new error, this time a minor error)

repair (this time it WORKED! =D )

Mount.. (worked too)

and in volume selection screen the mounted volume is showed!

thanks thedguy, installation is in progress now..

Sounds like you have to do the same thing I do. When I mess with partitions, I do so with windows or Linux, and only allow the Mac disk utility to "erase" the partition.

BTW, I'm getting closer and closer to a functioning IDE dvd installer.

I'm currently installing off of an image on an IDE HD to another partition on the same IDE hd.

Unfortunately my burned dvd wouldn't work :(

:o

Update

I managed to "patch" the Jas 10.4.8 install dvd, boot it with a DVD drive connected to the IDE ports, and get it to install

:dance_24::robot::thumbsup_anim::guitar:

But It didn't finish. That was I think due to my horrible way of adding a package. Right now the goal is to make a small PPF patch for the Jas 10.4.8 disc to get IDE support to install from an dvd drive. I just don't have the knowledge to do more. I can't get anyone I can think of who knows anything to respond to my requests for help just "it's really hard" comments.

Edit: And where the hell is everyone? I have no one to celebrate with damn it!

confused again..

after installation, a reboot is requested.. then a reboot, and how i expected, starts windows xp.. then i edit boot.ini, adding the chain0 (c:\chain0=MAC OS X86 Tiger 10.4.7)

and did a copy of chain0 from dvd to c:\

after the boot, i got the menu, selected mac os x and <enter>

then appears a black screen with a cursor, and nothing more..

(the hd led indicates hard working.. )

have wait about 10 minutes and dont have more time.. ill try again later

Just a quick report on the Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2.

After a lot of trouble I managed to install JaS 10.4.8 on this board. With more trouble tweaking things, everything works. Sound, IDE, FireWire, USB, PS2. Well, no acceleration on the onboard X3000 graphics but I have this perfectly working 6800XT anyway.

The board is very similar to the DS3. Actually so similar that thedguy and this thread could solve most of the post install issues. I'll make a nice step-to-step guide later on.

Oh, and with JaS 10.4.8 the SATA disks work very fast on the orange ports with SATA native mode enabled and all legacy stuff disabled. Have a Samsung and Western Digital harddisk installed, no problems. I did install the ICH8 drivers on the JaS release, perhaps that made a difference.

The 10.4.7 install dvd and installation would give a "still waiting for root device" error, so I guess nothing below 10.4.8 will work on this board. The IDE doesn't work without a fix, so you'll need either a SATA DVD drive or to write the image to the harddisk for an install from the HD.

Chain0 rarely seems to work. I finally had to install Grub, or just deal with the OSX boot loader.

how can i use mac os x boot loader? (after installation, the boot was the same.. windows)

what is better? i prefer something simple, like windows boot menu

i wait till installation showme a welcome screen, (introduction)

going on, a software licence agreement with "Enjoy!" and i confirm and hit agree, (license)

then i got the "Select Destination" screen, and the phrase "Select a destinatin volume to install the JaS OS 10.4.7 software"

There are no volume to select, and the "Continue" button is disabled

on menubar, using the Disk utility, i see my 3 (of 4 in real) volumes, but they are not mounted.. and i got an error when i try to mountmanually

(A mounted Volume is necessary to continue installation?)

Other information can be important.. i started the instalation with -v parameter..

and before the GUI is showed, i saw some error messages

some network error

some mounting error

and airstuff error

the mounting errors are:

localhost diskarbitrationd[33]: unable to mount /dev/disck0s1 (status code 0x00000047).

localhost diskarbitrationd[33]: unable to mount /dev/disck0s2 (status code 0x00000047).

localhost diskarbitrationd[33]: unable to mount /dev/disck0s3 (status code 0x00000047).

(the last one is the partition i've created to install mac os x86, i already tried unformated, fat32 and "af", and tried the "Erase" tip to format then too on Installation DiskUtility

Another question.. i must 'activate' the patition created to mac os x86?

Im Lost!

Some people reported problems with the WD sata HDDs and 10.4.7. You should try 10.4.8. I have three partitions and to install osx I formated the partition for it as fat32 using acronis disk director that also has a boot loader that works pretty well. The active partition is the one your computer would boot from.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD I DID IT!

I managed to make a Jas 10.4.8 install boot from the IDE on my DS3, fully install, and put in the correct/working network patch, and SATA/IDE patch.

To make this even more clear... I managed to boot from and install to drives ONLY hooked to the IDE on this system!

I'm working out some details, but hopefully I can just release a ppf patch to at least allow booting the install dvd from an IDE drive.

You are getting good at all this. let us know when you post it somewhere for download.

jp266one, i have sucefully complete instalation.. but..

i cant start the system.. tried chain0 and activate the mac partition.. what can i do now?

and, i cant understand how u all install 10.4.8 directly.. the only way is not installing .7, and update from inside the mac os? (i think i cant boot, so i cant update, but i have the JaS.10.4.8.SSE3.Intel.Only.Combo.Update in my hdd)

i think is same for kext.. the kext to correct some things can be applied only on the running system too?

thedguy, very good! keep working!

We are all using the Jas.10.4.8 reseed ISO. It's actually more reliable to boot from than 10.4.7.

The Combo update never worked for me.

i have ds3 board..

and the first installation is done. with pion' patch 1.2.

but is there any problem in this board with pci slot maybe?

because my Linksys WMP54G v4.1(RT61 chip) does not work. even not recognized from the board...

this model should work with Driver from hier(http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm), if HCL is correct.

but no... what should i do?

and my DVD Rom is not recognized too.. (after pion's patch on green IDE port with BIOS setting: native enabled or disabled)

:o:wallbash:

i found only the .7, and seens it will not work..

reinstalled mac os, and still no boot..

installed partition magic, configure the af partition to boot, i got the same black screen with a cursor blinking..

left the pc for some hours, and nothing change..

ill look for 10.4.8 iso, but..

is there anything i can try such bios option or commands in installation console?

thank you for the patience and help

edit:

i found .8 reseed.. downloading

i found a comment in another torrent too

"If you have problems booting after install try using the -x flag"

how can i enter this flag? on the dvd installation darwin boot?

DVDrom is IDE right? Native mode has nothing to do with the IDE. There should be a setting further down in that section of the bios which you can change to either ide, raid, ahci. set it to ahci, if that don't work try ide. If it's grayed out, set the option above it to enabled.

As far as your linksys card goes, does it work in another slot? Does it work in windows? What about if you throw it against a wall :( ? Have you tried it in another computer SINCE put it in your DS3?

When you boot the dvd there will be a point where it says "push any key or press f8" or something like that. Push F8 type "-x" (no quotes) and press enter and it should go

After BIOS Setting, DVD Rom work..

but Linksys WLAN card does not.. (yes! it works very good in Windows in the same PCI Slot..)

anyway .. i'm so dissapointed, because of HCL.

There is definitively my Linksys WLAN Card in HCL.. but it does not work... maybe it is because of my DS3 board..

Try deleting vista lol

Oi cara sou de bh tb.

Como vai?

Como vc ta fazendo com os teclados?

Question:

I´ve installed 10.4.8 using the tutorial posted here. After installation, I changed the Bios settings to IDE, instead of AHCI (my Windows Vista doesn´t work with AHCI, don´t know why).

But, in IDE settings, I got the "still waiting root device" message! The OSX only functions on AHCI.

I´ve tried this method:

Someone can help me?

Thx again.

Lá nos comentários você verá a forma de instalação, caso não saiba.

Até!

JMicron (purple ports) are supposed to be faster than orange ports?

In my case orange are faster. Is that normal?

if you are using 10.4.8 orange is going to be slightly faster. I get a diskarb error that delays startup about 1/2 min. For some reason I cant get purple to work anymore. Ta cheio de conterraneo por aqui, nao?

Hey guys My patch is up on demonoid.

If you have a copy of the Jas 10.4.8 reseed from demonoid, all you need is my patch. Apply the ppf in the torrent and reburn, It shoudl allow ide drives to be detected and booted from with the install dvd.

search demonoid for "JMB" or "jmb osx" and it should come up.

Thanks Thedguy. I'll give it a try.

will the jmicron work after he installation or do we still have to patch the installed system with something like pion's fix?

try changing it to AHCI. Or also just try rebooting.

On occasion I would have problems with it loading up the right drive. Sometimes I'd have to change the native mode setting around.

The combo that works the best is to set Sata native mode to Enabled, and the other setting to IDE. If it doesn't work the first time, try a reboot.

Do me a favor and keep any more support on my patch in the thread I made here:
