jcruzlara
I finally got a mac its a g3 yea i know its about four generations behind but it runs tiger at a decent speed. So what I wan't is for you guys to help me change that decent to a good or great I was over at newegg and I noticed they had ram that was compatible with the powermac g3 but its 73 dollars for 256mb. They also have though, other ram that is 168 Pin, PC100, no greater than 256, and unbuffered, which according to apples site is all it need to be compatible so I was wondering if it would really work with the g3. I'd rather spend 44ish dollars than 73. Im also buying a new 80gb hd to replace the 9gb in there, and a new dvd burner.

Swad
Congrats! I did something similar just the other day. Check out this page: http://dealnews.com/memory/prices/systems/...Ms/7/256MB.html Make sure that's your model. They've got some cheaper than newegg, and they're certified for Macs. jcruzlara
Thanks both of you, I did read your post mash found it ironic since I just got mine 3 days ago although I just got it running yesturday(had a tough time figuring out how to install tiger on it without a dvd drive) something else i wan't to mention is that its a powermac g3 b&w. I think I will have to go with newegg since I don't have a credit card. Also is the graphics card that goes on this machine agp or pci because if its pci then thats a weird looking pci slot its shorter than the others next to it. Thanks again
A Nonny Moose
The G3 Tower has a PCI graphics card. You can get an ATi 9200 and then use PCI Extreme to get Quartz activated on it. As a side note, get Mactracker and you'll be able to answer your Mac hardware questions.
The Masked Muchacho
Best video card for a b&w g3 is a PCI geforece FX5200, you need to get a standard PC card and flash it with a custom bios though but its the only way to get QE and CI check out strangedogs.com if you feel brave enough. or you could just get a Radeon 7000 of ebay, only does QE though. SnickterP
Masked, will that work on the Beige as well, or only new world machines?
The Masked Muchacho
GeforceFX5200 is new world only best for a biege is a 256mb radeon 9250 but it has to be made by connect3d or needs a hardware mod to work and its not easy to find one these days. Info on modding PC videocards to work on PPC macs can be found here http://strangedogs.proboards40.com/

No CI on the 9250 but its still faster than the 7000. I have been planning to check the B&W motherboards to see how much extra work is needed to fit it in an already modded for a beige, ATX case. The B&W has a 66mhz PCI slot too so should help. Any idea if those 9250's are connect3d? i have been searching for one everywhere Im dont want to have to mess around with hardware mods. SnickterP
I saw a site somewhere once that showed what needed to be done for a B&W ATX conversion. it was something as simple as changing a few power wires i belive. I'm pretty sure its linked off of lowendmac.com's B&W page. how can i tell if the 9250's are connect3d or not? looking at the actual card?
