Scope666 could you please tell me if, when you boot in verbose mode, you see 2 lines telling

UNKNOWN VIA ...... etc

and eventually dump here kextstat result (open terminal and type kextstat).

I still having issue with my user interface speed xbench score 7 where you score 262.61

complete xbench result HERE

Many thanks

Mathias

Try and disable S.M.A.R.T. on all drives (in the BIOS settings). This prevented the UI delays for me.

Does anyone know how to use SSE3 with this board?

Hi,

Seems to not solve my problem but thanks for tips. (Bios check are faster without smart its a good things)

For SSE3 what is you cpu ?? the first install i do if i remember well i only chek SSE3 patch and it works with my pentium D820.

Hi,

i'm currently running an i915p-based Mainboard. And it works like a charm for OsX86. But Single-Core P4-3.0 isn't exactly what i want. Additionally i have originally planned to build this i915p-based computer as a birthday-gift. When it didn't work, i ordered a 775Dual VSTA as spare part. Just afterwards i found out, that the graphics-adapter was the faulty component. Now i have the Dual VSTA right here by my side, unused and with 10-days left on the chance of returning the board to amazon.

After reading that this board works quite well, i consider on keeping it for myself. A nice Conroe CPU and ATI graphics adapter would make a fine system over my aged A64-3000+.

There are three points which i need to know before deciding:

a) Will the SSE3-kernel run? SSE3 emulation is major pain... One says SSE3-kernel runs, the next says it gives you a kernel panic...

B) Why disable extended flags? (stated on page 2)

c) Why did "m muller" disable one of his Pentium D8xx cores?

Hi Marcian,

Well if your are looking for the best conroe mobo for macosx i do not think that dual vsta is this one.

(Even if integrated part like sound, ntic, sata works)

Scope666 has a nice working config but without QE/CI (since he has nvidia card) and without SSE3.

I do have QE/CI but i score 7 on xbench / user interface score with my 9600 pro agp.

System is working but ui is slow. i think that via chipset that handle both pcie/agp is the cause.

I also have to disabled a core since my cpu has the dual core problem like most of the amd dual core. they called that strutering or something like that.

As Scope666 saids best budget mobo is srock Conroe945G-DVI board.

But if you still want to try to install osx on this board we will try to help you as much as we can.

I also plan to replace my D805 for a conroe cpu and buy a radeon 1600 XT/PRO PCIE and see if i have more luck . If you do so please come here to report succes/failure/pain.

Mathias

Ps : Sorry for bad english i am french

Well spoken, I agree that the Conroe945G-DVI is the best choice if OS X is your main drive behind the decision.

I broke down and purchased an x1900 XT card (Sapphire) so I do have QE / CI now... I have the new stats attached to this post.

I tried a reinstall with the Jas 10.4.7 DVD and only chose the SSE3 kernel patch and sure enough I got Kernel Panic, so I had to re-install and select SSE2 instead. From my understanding even with the SSE2 kernel you do end up using the SSE3 features most of the time, regardless of what the OS shows.

My CPU stats are well over 100 in xBench so it must be using most of the Conroe's horse power...

Wow nice stats. I wish i had the same.

So perhaps this mobo is not a so bad choice for hackintosh :D

Just have to found some bucks to buy more DDR2, a conroe proc and x1900XT !!! :ninja:

Good job scope666 !!

Mathias

Edit: Do you have pain to make your X1900XT working ?

actually, it was quite easy, I used the option in the Jas 10.4.7 DVD for ATI x1600 / x1800 / x1900 and it worked right away, no modification necessary...

Well i was so curious that i needed to try the board.

It doesn't like my Sapphire X300SE-Card. I get no picture. With my old Radeon 7500 the board will boot. So i think the AsrockBoard doesn't like the graphics card...

Yes this board has some limitation with graphics cards.

Agp must be 1.5v card (should be careful with that 3V card can destroy mobo they said)

PCIE is only 4x and the list of supported card can be found on asrock website . use link in the first post.

FX 5200 is AGP. I don't think that should be a problem.

As a (preliminary) final message from me to this Thread: I've sent the Board back to the supplier coz i didn't have the time to mess around in the last week. Perhaps i'mgonna try it sometime in the near future.

Hi,

I do not face this kind of problem but you may try to change IDE ctrl allocated to drive and dvd reader.

You may try also to disable all bios extra feature such as usb, sound, etc ..

Use only ps/2 keyboard and mouse.

You also can try to press F8 key at boot and type: -v as osx boot parameter (this help sometime).

Good luck and came back here to report succes !!

Mathias

No, still same thing happens... Did you use an IDE drive as the target drive? Im running only sata, and 2 dvd IDE drives. Looks like i'll have to settle for vmware. :D

As far as know there is no solution to install directly on SATA. You have to install one ATA then make a disk copy from ATA to SATA

After playing with some of the options in the bios, I finally got osx to install. However after i install the x1600 drivers (Boris method) i no longer get the login window after boot. I know this video card worked with osx on my previous motherboard flawlessly after installing the drivers. For some reason though i just get a blank screen, but the computer continues to load the os. I uninstalled the drivers and got my desktop back @ 1024x768. Did i forget to do something?

I used an installer JaS made.. You can find it here:

Worked like a charm for me.

Hi, i'm trying to install with JaS 10.4.7 but when i "press enter to install" the pc reboots, i disabled usb, ethernet, audio and the cpu flags but still reboots. I tried again with JaS 10.4.8 i booted the dvd but the kernel stops saying "still waiting for root device". What should i do next ?

my specs are:

Core 2 Duo E6300

775Dual-VSTA

2gb DDR Twinmos

XFX 6800GS AGP8x
