Post count never meant anything, 9999 replies or not.

Does my post count reflect the fact that I wrote a full install guide, and helped countless people?

NO!

Many others have helped as much or more than me, yet they have lower post counts that a lot of people.

Can we get over this obsession with having an inflated post count? All post counts are inflated.

I agree with starting another thread. This has been interesting, reading other peoples random stories.

When I come to insanelymac, I check my install guide thread, real life, this thread, then news. in that order. If I'm feeling generous (and can handle the onslaught of noobishness) I will venture into Post-Installation.

Are you for real? I'm sorry, but your argument completely fails. You are basically saying that post counts don't serve a purpose whatsoever. When they do more than anything!. And then you go on to say that people who have less posts than you may have helped more. Your point being what exactly? Who said post counts show how much we've helped people?

A post count shows someone's dedication to the community. And, generally speaking, people with larger post counts do tend to be more reliable/knowledgeable (please note, I said generally speaking [not applicable in all cases]). Does someone who joins the community with 1 post have an opinion just as valid/great as someone with 4,000? No, absolutely not! The people who have contributed to this community deserve to have a larger impact/say in the general running of things than those who haven't.

This topic completely trashes that system to pieces - hence why I am closing it at 9999 (I should close it now to be honest!).

That'd be a complete {censored} move if you closed it now. Closing it halfway through is one thing, but we can smell the cake (and toaster :censored2:) already. We're too close to the end.

I also believe along with socal swimmer it is a matter of quality, not quantity. Since when does your post count tell who you are. It shows how many posts you have, not that how many of them were utterly useless and how many really served an actual purpose. How do 150 posts going on and on about how great are the apple products make me a wiser person? How do 200 entries in the scrabble topic change my way of thinking?

You shouldn't be so sure about that. :censored2:
