JAPPO
Hello, I registered to this forum just to post this. I have been a faithful PC and Windows XP user for as long as I remember. I have had my current PC for a round a year or so. I like it, it's pretty fast, has good monitor, fair amount of ram, etc. But Im getting BORED of it. I looked at an iMac 17" and it looked pretty cool. My PC also makes clicking and humming sounds if on for a while, possibly bad hard drive or something. My question is, if I should sell this PC for money towards a mac. SPECS: Compaq, AMD 2 ghz 1 gig ram 60 gig hard drive 120 gig hard drive 128 mb video card 17 inch LCD monitor Altec Lansing speakers Keyboard, mouse, and etc.. For the imac. I have used this very iMac before, and it took years to load an internet page, but it was at a store, so they might have had bad internet connection. eLMafUDd
Well, loading internet pages isn't the speed of the computer, it's the speed of the internet. So I wouldn't worry about that. We have iMacs at our school, and they are nice, But I would definately go with the Intel over the G5. It really depends if you wanna go through the hassle of selling it, and if you want to use OS X. A Nonny Moose
All right, first off what are you going to use your system for? Also, how much money in software do you already have invested that is Windows only (read, not on a hybrid CD)? Considering those points alone can and will tell me everything about your situation and what you should do.
JAPPO
The only real software that I didn't pirate is games. Lol, I'm bored of them anyway. Also, its this one here: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...=&langid=EN Oh, and Ill be using my system for heavy browsing, FTP for websites, videos, music, BitTorrent, a little video creating, and basic things. sandmanfvrga
Then the iMac is perfect for you. But why go to Futureshop? That same iMac is $1299 from Apple.com.
Weebs
And before you buy from Apple.com just make sure to look at your local retailers and see if they have any for the same price or on sale so that way you dont have to wait for it to ship, or even better you may be able to get yours for a cheaper price. I got my iMac for $1235 at my local CompUSA. Also remember to make sure your local store has some actually in stock and it's not a special order than you can pick up later. A Nonny Moose
Well, if you're only doing "a little" video stuff, then you'd be happy with an iMac G5 and those are hella cheap compared to Matels.
JAPPO
Uh, I'm Canadian. Futureshop is the canadian price.
drrty byl
Keep your current setup -- you won't get much money for it and you'll miss it later. Search ebay for for iMac deals or exploit a college Apple store for a discount if you have access to one. I got my MBP 15.4"/100gb hd/1gb ram/2ghz for $1600 new on ebay.. That's the kind of deal you can get if you hunt long enough. Oh, and if you do go ebay -- don't get scammed!
JAPPO
I'll never use Ebay. I hate buying from a person and not a company.
