Found this topic via a Google search. I've also tried this disk image and was unable to get it to boot on an E6400 w/Quadro.

I'm fairly new to Hackintoshes but I'm researching the process.

I have an OSx86 installation that works somewhat but not perfectly. I booted with an OSx86 10.6.2 install disc, created two partitions, installed OSX to one and then restored this 10.7 image to the second partition but when I boot to that partition it just reboots the system. I probably need to do something with the boot loader. I guess I need to obtain something like Xbooter.

I'll be researching it but don't mind any help.

I assume I need to burn that file on a DVD. Does it work with a double layer DVD? Or do I need to just put it on an empty partition somehow?

To use this dmg you need to create a partition in your HD with Disk Utility and restore the dmg then use Chameleon Wizard (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=257464) to reinstall de bootloader. It's very simple, see this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIfNzp457jM.

But after some time googling i found this site http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1100-dell-e64006500-research-thread/. It's very useful, and the installation works perfectly.

What you will need:

16gb Pendrive;

MyHack; http://myhack.sojugarden.com/

Retail MacOSX Lion 10.7.3 dmg;

Custom Extra folder; http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=622

Running MacOS or HackOS;

dsdt.aml; http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=587

smbios.plist; Second Post on that forum

org.chameleon.Boot.plist; Second Post on that forum

Chameleon Wizard; http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=257464

Kext Wizard; http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=253395

Custom kexts; http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=595

Just buy a retail Lion dmg, or use torrent but i doesn't recommend, use MyHack to create a bootable Pendrive and use the Extra folder provided, with this you can install the MacOSX Lion 10.7.3 but it wont boot, so use the Pendrive to boot your installation. Network, Bluetooth and other stuff don't work so download everything before start.

You need to copy the smbios.plist, the org.chameleon.Boot.plist and the dsdt.aml to /Extra/, run Chameleon Wizard and on the tab 'org.chameleon.Boot' check and find the copied DST.aml and smbios.plist, them run Kext Wizard and install the Custom Kexts (0EDP.kext) into the /System/Library/Extensions.

After that you just need to reboot and the MacOS should start :D

This files are provided in that topic, and a lot more, so read the full topic.

Does vertical touchpad scrolling work with OS X Lion? Thats currently the only bump I don't like about my current configuration. I'm still not 100% convinced if it's worth it to buy Lion and a pendrive.

This wont work, as there is no drivers support for this touchpad.

Best and safest method is to buy Lion from Apple store. Then you are 100% sure, that there is no malicious software or any bugs, just clean OS X.

And another simple way to support Apple Team ;]

koliberK,

I finally got that image working. My process was:

- Used a PC with iATKOS L2 installation to restore DMG to E6400 HDD

- Connected E6400 HDD to OSX/PC with SATA->USB adapter

- Restore DMG to E6400 HDD

- Use myHack to install provided Extras folder to E6400 HDD

- Use myHack to install Chameleon to E6400 HDD

- Install HDD and boot system

It's looking very good. I'm going to see what kind of trouble I cause when I upgrade it to 10.7.4.

I've learned quite a bit playing with this stuff. $30 isn't bad for the legitimate OS and I may consider it if I think I want something permanently.

Thanks.

UPDATE: The upgrade to 10.7.4 didn't work out very well. I'm going to try to fix it.

Hi,

I'm happy that this works and that you consider to get legitimate OS :)

For 10.7.4 to work, you need to replace some files in S/L/E after, as they are replace with new versions while updating:

IOPCIFamily.kext and AppleAPCIPlatform.kext, this will solve KP error at boot.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0074s2odlpvm4fz/PowerManagement.zip

Then you need to delete AppleHDA.kext as well, rebuild cache and files permission.

Good luck :P

Hello,

Just updated my Dell Latitude E6400 from 10.6.3 to 10.6.6.

1. To install OSX i use this guide:

[iNSTALL/GUIDE] Snow Leopard On Dell E6500/E6400 in 8 simple steps, Dual boot Windows 7 Instruction Included

I use empty DVD with this OSX - SnowOSX Universal 10.6.2 v3.6 Intel Only, this works fine on my E6400.

2. Then, after add kext from this tutorial:

64-bitHackintosh Specifically for the Latitude E6400/E6500.pdf

Additional_Kexts_for_E6400_E6500.zip and Extras_for_E6400_E6500.zip (thanks to carman23)

I was able to use Snow Leopard on my Latitude E6400. This kext and extras set up graphic, sound, LAN, webcam and keyboard to work in my E6400. I still need to set up SD Card Reader, WiFi, Trackpad and volume to work.

To make WiFi and SD Card Reader to work i needed this kext: Broadcom43XXFamily.kext and VoodooSDHC.kext ( 4.3MB )

3. When system run after next reboot i added kext (used Kext Helper to install) and /extra folder from this pack (just copy them and replace yours). This pack works perfectly with my 64bit OSX.

jichi_E6500_10.6.6_i386.tar.bz2 ( 12.41 MB ) (thanks to jichj - HCL 10.6.6/Portables)

This fix trackpad and volume in my E6400.

3a. If you find problem with volume control - slider changes but volume doesn't - you need to replace VoodooHDA

(thanks to pcrew): download 32/64bit VoodooHDA.kext ( 230.49K )

4. Then after reboot, i was able to run system update, witch found new update for: OSX 10.6.6, airport, itunes and some more. Downloaded them, installed and after reboot. System starts OK, but without sound. So went to S/L/E and i deleted AppleHDA.kext

Next reboot and everything works wink_anim.gif

UPDATE 6/03/2011:

After playing with some kext, got kelner panic, so do installation again from beginning. When i replace my /extra with jichj pack, need to delete ApplePS2Controller.kext from S/L/E. This help me with TrackPad.

UPDATE 10/04/2011:

Hi, today got updated my hackintosh to SL 10.6.7, from system update.

There was no problems at all, works fine ;P

All the best, Tom.

Excellent write up and exactly the information I was looking for... HOWEVER, all of the links are dead. I just obtained an E6400 and am looking to do a dual boot of Snow Leopard (Retail disk arrives tomorrow, Only $30 from Apple!) with Windows 7. I would like to obtain as much of the driver/software (kext) as possible prior to doing this.

I have been using Linux for many years and supported Mac until the Puma days all the way back to OS8 and hoping to get back into the scene without the expense of a new MacBook Pro (yet). This will be my first OSX on a PC attempt although I've done it many times on a real Mac.

Looks like a number of folks trying to find these and there are copious forum posts but all are dead links. PM me or post a location if anyone finds these please!

Try this:

I have new image for E6400 with 10.7.4 Lion [7.5GB], but I do not have space to upload, as my dropbox is only 5.75GB, so

if you can refer and invite your friends, than i will upgrade my Dropbox more quickly for 7.5GB,

I finally gave it a try. But now I'm stuck at log in screen where I need to enter a password and everything is polish.

Did I miss something?

Today manage to install new Mountain Lion 10.8, now updated to 10.8.2.

Thanks for this image!!! I´m the happy owner of a e6400. I´ve already had a snow leopard installed, and replaced with this... fantastic upgrade. But i have a (little) problem....

I have Win 7 and ML (10.8.2 e6400) in this E6400. it boots from the Windows boot menu, that has 2 boot options. One for Win 7 and the other for OSX.

No problem for booting into Win 7.

If i select the OSX option, it goes to Chameleon bootloader ( 2.0 rc4, that was already installed for Snow Leopard), it starts the boot and when it goes to the white screen, it goes down and reboot.

Tried - v, -f, -x... didn´t boot, with the installed chameleon.

So, i´ve downloaded chameleon (updated one) bootloader iso, burn´ed it in a cd, booted from cd, and in verbose mode, i can boot into ML...odd thing.

What i´m a doing wrong, or what did i not read? :-)

Thanks once again for your fantastic work!!!

I had exactly the same problem.

I plugged the drive to another mac osx and ive loaded again chameleon.

Then I mounted the disk back in notebook and boot mac os.

In ML chose the chameleon wizard uncheck options to hiding the other partitions.

Now Chameleon supports Windows 8 botting me and mac os.

PS. Sorry for My bad english

You must boot in single user on chameleon use tab and then write -s. ML boot in console in single user. Type following commands:

Type mount -uw / and press Enter.

Type rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone and press Enter.

Type shutdown -h now and press Enter.

In this image you have 2 users, one is tomek, other is E6400.

Try to logout, and then to login use second user E6400 with password dell.

Thanks -- you don't just have the admin password for that user? I managed to switch it to english just by going through menus and guessing.

nevermind that worked fine. Thanks
