If you could but the OS, no one would buy Apple hardware because it is the same, just triple the price. However, I think if they can get enough of the operating system market share, they may be able to one day switch to just selling and OS and software. This is nearly impossible though due to the monopoly M$ has on the market. I for one cannot afford a macbook, if I could I would purchase one, so in a way, Apple is forcing me to run it on my PC, and M$ is forcing them. So basically we can still blame M$ for all our problems. The end. I run Linux/Windows/OSX on various machines in my house. I don't think Apple has ever made chips, Apple was, and still is, a hardware distributor, just as Dell is, both of whom seem to be going more into the marketing business more than anything else, Apple just happens to have it's own OS. They never made the hardware, PPCs were and are still made by Motorola, the mobos, RAM, HDD... are all made by thier respective manufacturers such as Intel. i.e. Apple has never been a hardware manufacturer, they were and still are merely a assembly/distributor such as Dell. They just happen to have thier own, far superior OS, which they can tailor to the hardware, and vice versa.
