I honestly can't help you there, I don't use it myself. I actually just installed Mac through VMWare, so I have a full install of Mac to let me do my editing of files. See if Hilloki can help you with TransMac.

It seems this is broken in 10.4.8  No matter what I do I cannot get it work. Works fine in 10.4.7.

Do you mean with 10.4.8 kernel? That doesn't sound good. I does work on mine with 10.4.8 updates with old kernel. Maybe you need the old kexts?

Hi Black Knight,

Please refer to the issue I've experienced here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...910b9&st=20

I finally run into "Still waiting for root device"... I have to get Mac OS boot again by resuming AppleGenericPCATA.kext.

I really don't understand. My UDMA is exactly 0x522910b9 (reads "ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller" in Windows), why didn't the solution work on my system??

Any advice?

Penny

The only thing I can think of is you might have put the device id under the Parallel ATA section and not the Serial ATA section. It must be under the Serial ATA section to work. If that was not your problem, I have no idea what to tell you as you have followed the instructions correctly.

Try using different versions of AppleVIAATA.kext from either 10.4.5, 10.4.6, or 10.4.7. Apple didn't include one in 10.4.8. I do have this working on a 10.4.8 system. Also, in disabling AppleGenericPCATA.kext, did you rename it to AppleGenericPCATA.kext_disabled, or does it still end with .kext? You might need to move it out of the extensions folder or rename it with the _disabled at the end. It's possible that it's still trying to load the generic one.

Hi, are you using the new kernel? I tried and couldnt get it working but didnt spend much time on it. Works fine on 10.4.8 with old kernel.

Don

I am using Semthex's latest kernel for SSE3.

Thanks for the reply. I will try again. I tried both jas and tubgirl with out success. Maybe copy viaata from my working 10.4.8 old kernel version.

Which install did you use?

Thanks,

Don

This same method worked with the SiS 964 (SiS 661FX northbridge), with 0x55131039. Just in case anyone needed to know.

Thank you so much, weirdstapler ;)

I did this on my Asus P4S8X-MX motherboard, and now my IDE drive is very fast!

Before I made this change, it was ~2.4MB/S, which was just unuseable.

Will this allow me to use a SATA drive on my SiS chipset board? I'm trying to get it working. Now when I boot with -V I see this line:

AppleVIAATADriver: VIA 8237 SATA (CMD 0x170, CTR 0x374, IRQ 15, BM 0x4008)

Which wasn't there before. But I still get the good ol' "Still waiting for root device"

Also, how do the find my device id on a linux boot disk? I thought lspci showed the device id but I can't find it. Thanks!

I wanna work on video and without UDMA it's impossible !!!

Thx a lot for tips on SATA !!!

First, getting UDMA modes for the ALi/ULi 0x522910B9 chip is as simple as adding 0x522910B9 to the SATA section of /system/library/extensions/AppleVIAATA.kext/Contents/Info.plist. That's right, I said the SATA section and not the PATA section. I don't know why this works, but it does. You must then remove or rename /system/library/extensions/IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleGenericPCATA.kext so that it will not conflict with the VIA kext. If you are only going for UDMA modes, then run in Terminal:

chown -R root:wheel /system/library/extensions/

chmod -R 755 /system/library/extensions/

and finally repair permissions in Disk Utility. If you want SerialATA as well, wait and do these steps after the second step.

Second, getting SATA to work on ALi/ULi 0x528810B9 (ULi 1575 southbridge) 0x528910B9 (ULi 1567 southbridge) and possibly 0x528710B9 (I submitted the idea to the person having trouble with this one and haven't heard back yet). To get these to work, you once again need to edit AppleVIAATA.kext/Contents/Info.plist and add these three (or just the one you have if you know which one already) device ID(s) to the SATA section. The last thing you must do is go into your BIOS and set your SATA controller from AHCI mode to Emulated PATA mode. This shouldn't apply to the 0x528910B9 device ID as it is only SATA I mode and doesn't support AHCI anyways.

---------------> I HAVE THIS DEVICE <----------------

But changes don't work, i stall at waiting for root device, or it hangs before loginwindow.app

uLI M1573 0X528710B9 SATA

Ali M5229 0X522910B9 IDE

HDD IDE Master

DVD Drive Slave on same IDE Controller

Can you PM me or email or whatever your kext ? TIA
