When Sony and Samsung and Toshiba etc. release HD-DVD and Blu-Ray external drive, will I be able to connect it to one of the USB's on my Mac Mini and then be able to watch and brun HD-DVD movies. Or does Mac have to support it before it will enable any kind of features to work with it? Thanks alot!

ittl have to be supported, and you will have to have the security drm featrues to play it at full res... just like you have to have that chip in your tv to play it at full res...

sorry

It looks like DVD Player for Leopard got an update, so it is possible that it will support Blu-Ray as Apple has committed to.

I can not wait to get my hands on a drive so I can test my little hypothesis...

One thing that I am a little concerned about is Help - Supported Features lists HD as Unsupported.

I wonder why that one is...

I have a final generation Powerbook 17" (1680x1050 - I know not 1920x1080 as HD officially is, but when linked into a Sony 65" 1080p set over DVI-D, I still get it), but could it be because I do not have the drive on my system?

It would severely blow if older systems could not play back HD stuff if upgraded because they did not ship with them...

I would wait a while before buying a new format. People have called it the "format war". Until it's over, which it may never be, I'd stick with DVD's.
