Hello everyone. I need a pc for college and I reaaaaaaaaally want a regular Macbook but the price is pretty insane. I found out about running OSx on personal computers and I've been scouring these forums about laptops but I can't seem to find any solid laptops to use... Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to pay a lot for a laptop.

Thanks

Well, if you get something with a Dothan in it, be sure it's a 533mhz based core, the 400mhz dothans don't have pae or nx control, so many have osx installation issues as mine does as well. Be sure it's something with compliant intel chipsets, your best bet would be to search through this forum and find specific models people have commented on about being fully functional...and the wicki of course, thats why its there.

If your on a budget - I got a Dell Inspiron 1300 (B130 stateside name) for £350 new. It has a Celeron M 1.5ghz but I did the pin mod to make it 2.00ghz and its a pretty decent machine now - only sound doesn't work until the driver is finished but that is underway and going well.

I have a HP Pavillion zd8230us, I have been able to install OS X with very minimal time required to get full Video, Sound and Wifi to work. Most of this all worked out of the box. I was really suprised how easy my installation went. I am now running 10.4.7 with no problems after 6months uptime. here are some shots of my system.

Al_s_Computer2.tiff

I successfully installed osx86 10.4.5 on my asus a7jc. I had to take from forum 10.4.3 kext for the realtek alc882 codec, now it works but I don't have sound on external speakers and volume control. The worst thing is neither the wireless card (intel 3945abg) and wired card (realtek 8168 pci-e) work. About the graphic card, I have perfect video support only on external monitor with boris fix, with callisto drivers the system hangs on resolution change, now I use the osx86 ati drivers in mirror mode at 1152x864 with QE/CI support. The bluetooth card works out of the box and the same for the optical drive. Integrated mic and cam, mmc reader, tv tuner don't work. I'm thinking about changing my wireless adapter with a compatible one or to buy and usb to ethernet adapter.

DellD 800 or D600 used Jas 10.4.6 with SSE2 patch

Out of the box working: Audio, video at 1024x768x32, keyboard, trackpad, trackpoint.

Not working: onboard ethernet, wireless (Intel BG2200 story), sleep.

Here is what I have found to fix a few items:

Battery indicator can be found here (works on many laptops): http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=14912

Also got onboard nic working by using the notes here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...amp;#entry73971

And full 1680x1050x32 video support from macvidia driver here: http://macvidia.starchaser.org/

There is also a cool widgit at here that will show you your current driver on your system and the driver that is currently availble on line: http://macvidia.starchaser.org/boards/macv...dia-widget.html
