Then there were none.
well, people do reply, i have asked many questions and everyone replys at some point. sometimes questions have already been awnsered, and in that case, the search button is your freind. This forum is full of freindly helpful people who dont even flame. forums on ytmnd are the worst ive ever used. munky
merid: one could equally ask why is this thread even here? this forum is one of the liveliest and most comprehensive communities on the osx86 scene. its also the oldest, having been around from the very beginning. it was the home to most of the 'early work' which paved the way to the ease and convenience with which end users can install Mac OS X on generic PCs. also, generally when nobody replies to a question, its more usual that nobody knows the answer, so please dont take offence! :censored2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22401-worst-forum-ever/#findComment-148269 Share on other sites
indiekiduk
I think the reason is that people post really specific questions about obscure problems. This forum is about a whole operating system, on unsupported hardware which is a massive subject area, with not many people in the community, and working with a hackintosh can be really frustrating. Many people struggle to even get OS X working so no wonder there are no replies to your question about iMovie not working. When working with this its always good to make frequent backups of your HD, then perhaps you can try a few things yourself and find the solution to the problem and post that - if you think others will find it helpful. belgrano
... the search button is your freind. ... Actually right now the search seems to be broken... Of course one can always use Google to search the forum. :censored2: As for the worst forum... it might be, but when someone answer for the 20th time the same question to some people who are more willing to ask than to search for themselves, is that person really to blame if the 21st time he said "use the search button" or he just don't answer at all? That forum contains a LOT of informations but you have to dig for it, nobody will explain you the obvious things... If there is something not so pleasant in the forum, IMO, is the fact that there are too many threads dealing with the same topic (i.e. people ask one question even if the answer is right under their noses), but I guess it's the moderators' choice to conduct the forum in a laissez-faire manner. dponmac
A lot of people will ask a question that has been answered time and time again without searching (which happens in any forum), and I think the regulars that have been here since day one get a little tired of even posting "search button is your friend" and just go on to the next post. Or, sometimes users will like to post their problem and give no computer specs whatsoever!! You can't expect to get too far if your not getting sound on your hacked OS X copy if you don't tell us what version your running and on what type of system. I could understand your fustration if this actually was a horrible forum. I've been on forums before where I need something fixed right away and there is no previous post on my topic and there is barely any activity in the forum community, so I would expect a reply in a few days, weeks and more often than not, never! But this forum's community is fairly large and quite active to the point where I rarely need to post a topic on a problem I'm having because it's probably been answered more than once! I personally love this forum, I get a lot of info from posts on how to fix my problem, or point someone in the right direction to fix their problem. I've been trying to get OS X to run on my computer for years and when I heard about this last year, I signed up to the forum and starting on my venture that hopefully will keep going on for a long time.. p.s. isn't this thread sort of an oxymoron (if thats even the word I'm looking for)?? A post about no one reply, and yet, quite a few replies.. domino
oh man don't get me started. in short, you get a helpfull reply, you must at least provide the following information. - OS version - Application version - hardware information - exact steps you did to lead you to beleive it is a problem - learn to use seach engines properly - give discriptive topic name (not too long/ not too short) - be to the point - dont give more inforation that distracts your main problem If the stuff above doesn't satify me, I never answer or even finish reading the entire post. So yea, all it takes is common sense. You wouldn't take you car to a mechanic and just tell him that it's broke. PS. * One last thing. NO CROSS POSTING. If it were up to me those would be deleted. Aren't you glad I'm not a mod? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/22401-worst-forum-ever/#findComment-148301 Share on other sites
kevin_4e
If you do not appreciate this site, then you're probobly searching the wrong forum. It's clearly the best OSx86 forum that i've came across and i feel the much needed move to 'insanely mac' is going to be great. Sites like 'Mac Forums' and 'Mac Rumors' are all great forums for stuff like apps, product reviews and a whole lot of other stuff. But when it comes to x86, mods either close the topic or ban any talk of it. So assuming your not an x86 user, than this is probobly not the best place for you. It is still growing and maybe someday you'll question yourself to why you said what you said. Superhai
I try to help. But if you post with topic like. "I have problem, please help". I don't care to look at it, it is mostely vaguely defined problems, and in almost all cases easily found by searching. And if you cant wait a few hours or a day for answer I don't care even if i could help (like posting a reply short after the original posting). And installing mac os x is in most cases a topic for computer savvy people! gwprod12
Not only that, but 90% of the problems would be solved if people just looked at even 1 other post in that section. SOOOO many people get a waiting for root device error, and that is plastered all over the forum.
