gwprod12
it doesnt "prove" anything. It shows a mac running mac os having a stop error (which obviously doesnt happen because OS X doesnt have stop errors, they have BBODs) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20157-windows-98-blue-screen-of-death/#findComment-134095 Share on other sites

gwprod12
well, technically, a stop error IS a kernel panic. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20157-windows-98-blue-screen-of-death/#findComment-134121 Share on other sites

gwprod12
uh. no... The first one is a BBOD The second is a kernel panic. Why would you think I said they were the same? gwprod12
I think you're thinking stop error is something other than what it is. A stop error is a windows kernel panic. Characterized by a blue screen with a "A Stop Error Occured" written all over it. The Blue Screen of Death is something entirely different than a STOP error. Blue Screen of Death characterized windows 3.1 - windows 98, usually having something to do with memory addressing. U.C.
This happened at the pre launch demo of Windows 98. xtraa
I think you're thinking stop error is something other than what it is. Yes exactly. I think this really makes a significant difference to my grandma when she tries to scan the bithdaycards. But b.o.t.: I liked Win98 because it was so simple. Ok, it had many errors, but there were usually many fixes, too. I only hated it for the setup of a new PC, because this was really like a wheel of fortune. Looking back, Win98 made computing to a time-intensive hobby. All these defrag-hours and installation routines... Yes it sucked, but in the yesterdays I liked it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20157-windows-98-blue-screen-of-death/#findComment-134881 Share on other sites

fOZf8
I liked Win98 simply because it could run Rebirth. With that said, the only version of windows to stal 98's coveted seed of debauchery was winME (worst OS ever?). Really though, I think we have a wee bit too much OS prejudice in these forums...OS X and XP both can be great, and they both can suck donkey gnads. I don't see any reason to not be using both if your in a situation to be able to do so. The only big thing I see that OSX has going for it over XP is it's poshness, but it's also far less configurable in many ways, and although it's far 'friendlier' with 3rd party mainstream external peripherals, it's far LESS friendly with 3rd party INTERNAL peripherals, costs more money to stay up to date with, and has a much smaller community of people coding good freeware utilities for it. You could say it's got an upperhand for being nix based, supposedly more stable and better at multitasking and disk referencing (supposedly) because of that, but also take into consideration that Micro$oft at least coded all of their NT based OS's themselves from the ground up...not so easy either. Anyways, back to the BSOD, I've been running XP for 4+ years at least...2000 pro before that, and I havent even had enough BSODs to average out to 1 a year. Win98 could pull a bsod out of it's arse AT LEAST once a week. As far as I'm concerned, it's DOS that made windows unstable (although win95 still runs like a coked up meth-head 24/7 it's so system light!) baysie
I kept Windows 95 just incase 98 didnt take off (make it in the big world)........ What it boils down to is have an OS that work for you,,,,,,, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20157-windows-98-blue-screen-of-death/#findComment-143237 Share on other sites
