rmriggin
I will start out with letting you all know about my current specs and info hp zd8205us notebook Installation with JaS 10.4.6 went without a hitch after choosing the cutomizations for wireless support and Intel SSE2. My wireless works perfectly, sound works perfectly, and LAN. All is good with the exception of no CI or QE and being stuck at 1024x768 resolution. Since the omni drivers are MIA right now I have been unable to expiriment with them to get my x600 supported and displaying the correct 1440x900 widescreen resolution. I would like this thread to be able to provide other zd8000 owners the info they need to have as much as possible working in OSX. Any other owners please chime in with how you were able to get QE and CI and how to get proper widescreen resolutions working. All input is appreciated! SUCCESS! I was able to get QE and CI working by using a combination of methods First I installed the updated version of omni .003 and followed the installation guide to the tea rebooted after reboot I installed the latest koverg patch v0.2 and followed its directions to a tea rebooted now I got QE and CI and I am able to select (and use!) my native widescreen resolution of 1440x900 in the display properties menu. So I got perfect working sound, lan, wireless, and now widescreen resolution with QE and CI... HELLZ YEAH! Minor artifacts but I could care less at the moment! This is kicking ass! rmriggin
Nah, its still for sale, just figured since it wasn't going anywhere I might as well spend some time on it. Reason for selling it is because it is too much for what I use, and while a 17" widescreen display is nice it really isn't practical for my use. psionic68
Well done rmriggin - I wish i could get qe/ci with my zd7000. Have not yet sucessfully managed to run 10.4.8 with any of the new kernels. If I could then titan.kext would perhaps work with my nVidia. kanato
I have a HP zd8000 that I customized on HP's site. Originally, I installed JaS 10.4.7. Sound and wireless worked with no extra trouble, but QE/CI and changing video resolutions did not. I installed Callisto b003 (fixed) and I was able to change resolutions (up to 1680x1050), but no QE/CI/OpenGL. After this, I installed JaS 10.4.8 over the top of 10.4.7. The reason was I wanted to try the Mobility x600 package to see if it would work. It didn't work for me. When the driver was loaded the display would be corrupted with black and white rectangles. The mouse pointer was visible though, and I could use it to shut down the computer by remembering where the apple menu was and which entry was Shut Down. So then I decided to wipe the disk clean and install JaS 10.4.8 from scratch. What's strange is when it first booted up off the hard drive, it showed an intro movie showing the word "welcome" in different languages. There was some video corruption at the bottom of the screen, but it appeared to be behind the movie, because the movie looked just fine. But after that, the desktop was corrupted as above. So I removed the ATIRadeon9700.kext and CallistoHAL.kext to get the desktop to work. Now the wireless doesn't work. I tried installing the Wireless Networking package from the 10.4.7 CD, but on bootup it complains that the kernel extension can't be loaded. Now when I move ATIRadeon9700.kext and CallistoHAL.kext back into /System/Library/Extensions, I just get a black screen, but the mouse pointer is there and it seems like I can interact with the computer ie. if I click down where the dock should be, the hard drive starts churning like I just openned Safari or something. That's my current status, I am continuing to work on these issues. [Edit] Well, I went back to 10.4.7 to get wireless working. Following the procedure rmriggin posted above I installed Callisto and Koverg. Now I have 1680x1050 and OpenGL support, but no QE or CI. Strangely, in my system profiler it shows "Bus: PCIe" and "Slot: PCI" Edited January 6, 2007 by kanato Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19838-hp-zd8000-owners-chime-in/#findComment-267729 Share on other sites
Jabba_
Hi there! Although my laptop is ZD7000 series I though I report in too. As far as I could see the only difference we have between the two series is the graphics card (and maybe CPU speed). In my case it's an NVidia GeForce Go 5600. For a while now I used 10.4.6 which worked perfectly except the NVidia drivers ( becouse of the 8.4.1 kernel). I just installed JaS 10.4.8. Now I have Full QE/CI support, although the 17" screen is wierd! It look as if every 2nd column would be black. The resolution is 1440x900. If I change it to 640x480 than it is fine. Another problem is Wifi. 10.4.6 worked exceleny out of the box, 10.4.8 just can't find it. By the way this is a clean 10.4.8 install. SNutz
I finally did it! I've been working my zd8000 for a couple of weeks now, nonstop. I finally have the right config to get QE/CI and OpenGL working. FWIW, here's what I found to work for me... after a million combinations.... I think the key to getting everything to work is having the x600 show up on the PCIe bus. The only install that did that for me was JaS 10.4.7. After installing that I tried the Callisto 003 (fix) for res to 1680x1050, and the Koverg Patch. But no QE/CI. I was about to give up, when I found this link from Bimmer: http://www.box.net/public/kd5ulo8u6h There's a zd8000 setup for 10.4.7 and one for 10.4.8. After installing, I have QE/CI/OpenGL working. My machine xbenches at 86 on a full test, and 106 w/o hd... my hd is very slow. Everything else seems to work. I've written DVD's, played DVD movies, connected to my wireless router, now if I could get dual monitor support, my every wish would have come true! Good luck... hope this helps someone else. Thanks to everyone for all the info. bigeeezee
funny you should start this topic, right now I have a zd8000 that wont boot. I'm getting a kernel panic (no smoking sign). First, I think I need to boot in -v mode, but unless im loading off the install dvd (which I dont want), the comp doesnt give me the option to put in -v at any point, its just straight to grey screen and BAM! frozen. Second, I'm trying to install a 10.4.8 install dvd, and under the customize option for patches, there is no amd or intel options. Is this a bad sign? theres only two options, and they're for video cards i dont have. Scratching my head over this one, any help guys? rmriggin
I feel like an {censored} for starting this thread and then selling that laptop shortly afterwards. Now that I got that out of the way it sounds to me like you may have a badly patched, or unpatched install dvd. At the time I was using mine I had everything working (except waking up from sleep) using JaS 10.4.6. Paradroid2
I have the zd8000 , with the 1440x900 display . I also have an external 22" LCD (also 1440x900) . Problem is : the video image on my external screen is actually 1440x900 , but my monitor reports it's only 1280x864 (or something in that area) Result : the image is larger than my screen ,the toolbar is beyond my visible area , as for half of my dock because my screen thinks it is 1280x864 .... The screen has no settings to adjust the H and V (it's a tft, only has color , brightness , phase and contrast settings ) When I boot from my XP partition , the output to my external screen is correct . I hope anyone understands what I mean Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19838-hp-zd8000-owners-chime-in/#findComment-285359 Share on other sites
londonzombie
Hi guys, Its my first post here I have had the same problems as Kanato, When the system restarts after installation the movie plays with corruption at the bottom of the screen, Then all I see is black and grey triangles (Scrambled images). When I installed I ticked all the options, Should I not have done that? I have the file from listed earlier in the post but what do I do with it ? Thanks for any help.
