  1. XP disk hangs on boot installation

Hey guys: Got an image of xp SP3. burned it to a disk and used it to install windows on my dads old dell downstairs. So, i figured i'd bootcamp it. Well, the mac will boot the CD, but on boot it hangs on an installation welcome screen. Is there a problem with my install disk? It worked on windows, does mac have some sort of genuine copy protection?
  2. .dmg's failing to mount?

So today I was playing a game on the ol mac (leopard) and it randomly crashed. it wouldnt reload, so I gave up. Since doing this, now several other games I have tried to play randomly don't work. some of the .dmg's won't even mount (using toast 9). What gives? I did a software update, and it would seem that perhaps this has caused a random malfunction. Anyone have anywhere for me to start?
  3. My friend has a macbook (not sure what model, but it has a microphone/webcam) and she needs to record audio for some interviews. quality isnt a concern, but ease of use is. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as apps for that?
  4. hide pictures in "all pictures"

HAHAHAHA! that did the trick! Macs are so simple! just dragged to the desktop! and anyways, if you put the folder in system, the spotlight ignores it. I knew that. Thanks guys!
  5. hide pictures in "all pictures"

Hey guys, need a clue...I have some pictures (yes, some are porn, but not all) that I dont really want to show up in "all pictures" in the finder. Every time I open a picture off the hard drive, it shows up there. any way to disable this?

  7. OLD space game on Mac se?

AHHH! This is why I love the mac community. thank god I have one coming. and thanks for the effort, kind sir! k, found it. it was called "Spaceward Ho!" now, does anyone know where to download it?
  8. OLD space game on Mac se?

Yeah, I would say strategy was the genre. there was no direct combat involved, your ships automatically fought theirs, you just ordered your ships around. I seem to remember that the colony ships were round-looking, and the fighter ships were more "agressive" looking, but I dont remember much beyond that. It was FOREVER ago. I think it had something to do with cowboys in the title (or maybe I'm just crazy). and the icon was a planet wearing a cowboy hat. I mean, I could be one hundred percent wrong, but have you guys heard of or played a game like that?
  9. OLD space game on Mac se?

hey everyone, I just bought an Imac 24". Yeah, im pumped! But anyways, I have lots of fiddling to do before I have to bring it to school. I wanna install windows (I'm an engineer, I need it...), but I just realized that there are a buncha old macintosh SE games that I used to play as a kid, back when we had one. crystal quest, shufflepuck cafe, PGA golf, etc. there was one game in particular that I loved, but cant remember the name to for the life of me. It was a space stragegy game on the SE. you had ships that could colonize, and you had ships that were like fighter ships, and you went to planets and colonized them to expand your realm or whatever, and fought the bad guys. I think that the planets each had a face on them, but I dont remember that entirely. it was all black and white, and a sweet game. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or where to get it? I dont remember if it was called galactica, I dont think so but my internet search has turned that up as the most likely choice, however it could be totally wrong. C'mon guys, help me relive my childhood here!

  11. M$ Office for Mac - Is it worth it?

I dunno, I have macoffice and it works great. Its free too (shhhh), just go to any major university campus (make a friend if you dont go there) get on their filesharing hub, and look for it. I had macoffice (a better version than I have on windows) in 5 minutes. Grand total: $0.00
  12. two finger gestures?

Is it possible? I've tried FFscroll, Iscroll2 and sidetrack. None install, but i think sidetrack might be a possibility to be fixed. I'm not sure why but when you install it (at least for me) it says that the driver is not loaded, and restart to make that happen. Well it doesnt. So, anyone gotten theirs to gesture nice? How exactly?
  13. Quick question: my mouse wigs out once a day. It will not do an anything I tell it to, moves randomly, and if I leave it alone in the middle of the screen it'll shake and vibrate. It's actually quite funny to watch, my computer just 'dorks', for lack of a better word. Why exactly does it do that? I'm thinking its oh my god, its doing it right now. Its flying around in front of the words. Thank god it doesn't click too, or else i couldn't ever type this. Well, help please!!! I have the cursor locater program with a blank image, so that mouse artefacts (yes thats how it's spelled) aren't an issue. Maybe that? I'm thinking I could use a better trackpad driver. Its an hp zd8000 and im running 10.4.8
