hello all. sorry if my english is bad. im trying to build my hackintosh and cant for the life of me get it to even boot the apple screen. i have

 

x58a-udr3

i7-930

9800 gtx

no cd drive

16 gb cruzer hard drive

normal keyboard

usb logitech bluetooth mouse

 

1)i partition the drive with GUID and then tried again with MBR

2)restored snowleo 10.6.3 to it and

3)then installed kakewalk.

 

but i never get to the apple logo screen. i always get stuck at verifying DMI pool data.

i wanted to install the snow leopard server but i was not even able to install the kakewalk installer when it was the server install disc that i used to restore.

 

i also have and IDE cd drive i can connect to it but not sure hwat setting to put in bios

 

not sure which version my bios is if that matter. but i tried few bios settings, nothing has worked

anyone have any thoughts and can help me plz

This is my first try at a hackintosh. I have been a Mac user for a long time, but I am tired of paying such money for something that I can build for cheaper. I recently bought an Alienware cpu. I wanted to see if anyone can help me with the install of OS X Snow Leopard. My specs are below. Let me know if this is possible.

 

Intel i7 920

Motherboard is an x58 Tylersburg

12 gig ram

Nvidia Geforce GTS 240

 

What would be the best method to do an install? I already have a retail OS X Snow Leopard install disc.

If you've followed the Kakewalk install instructions you should have the Chameleon bootloader. When you start up you should see a picture of a hard drive with a fairly fast progress bar counting down. Hit any key while this is on screen and it will then show you all the bootable OSs that you have. You can then select the one you want.

I have two OSX partitions on one physical drive and Win7 on another physical drive. They all show up as options to boot from.

mrjanek, Thank you very much for the excellent Kakewalk install procedure. I've just completed the install with the CD method on a friend's GA EP45-UD3LR (not T version) motherboard. The only other card in the system is an EVGA nVidia 8800 GTX PCI-E Video card, the rest is stock SATA 1TB HD and SATA DVD-R/W drive.

 

The only problem I've encountered is no audio devices recognized for output or input.

Upon installing, I created the CD ISO for the EP45-UD3LR, burned the CD, and followed all of the procedures as outlined in the install PDF.

 

I am using the retail Snow Leopard Box Set (10.6.0) wish also includes iLife and iWorks of which I've not installed yet.

 

I have previous experience with my Lifehacker install on my EP45-UD3P and with the OSX 86-Project on my Dell E1505/6400 Laptop, both being successful and running 100%.

 

To be a little more clear on information, I've double checked the bios and the on-board audio, is enabled. Upon installing Snow Leopard Retail 10.6.0 and after restarting and rebooting with the Kakewalk CD I selected the Snow Leopard partition as instructed and completed the OS set up. I then checked and had sound and all of the input and output options in the Sound portion of System Preferences area. I then installed the Kakewalk bootloader and had an error message of the following:

 

System Extension Cannot Be Used

The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/Plugins/HDAEnabler.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used.

 

Something happened with the Bootloader installation that broke the sound, because when I rebooted without the Kakewalk CD and the system started on it's own, I had no sound and all of the sound input and output options were gone and the volume was also grayed out for sound.

 

Before the bootloader installation to the Snow Leopard partition I had this Under Hardware-->Audio (built-in), this is what's shown:

One last thing I need to know with the X58A-UD3R

 

does the board work well with ATI cards. more specifically the 4870?

 

As long as the graphics card works, it should not matter what motherboard you use it in, and vice versa. My 1 GB HIS HD 4870 works flawlessly on my X58A UD3R, with an LCD on each DVI connector. 

 

 

Thanks for a very simple and efficient installer Mr. Janek! Just donated, should be good for a few Pripps Blå or whatever you drink over there ;)

 

Have not got my internal sound controller to work yet, but my Line 6 Toneport UX 2 works just fine. Everything else I tried works beautifully, and dang OS X boots in like 5 seconds after Chameleon has started on my SSD! Now off to overclocking this Xeon W3520.

Am I not seeing something very obvious here?

 

I just downloaded the new Kakewalk 2.2 .zip to burn onto a CD. Your instruction say to just burn the .iso but the .zip just has two folders in it...

 

So I burned the folders onto a CD, told my comp to boot from CD and nothing happens.

 

Am I doing something wrong here?

ok, some experiences here- see my specs in the sig.

after testing kakewalk 2.2 i started fiddeling with dsdt mods looking for sound out. some long nights later i'm back to the original kakewalk 2.2., running the ga-x58a-x7 install.

still experiencing random kp stating acpi platform driver not found and others. i really doubt to make this machine my rig for work at this time...

some thoughts about the x-58a-x7 install:

 

-the smbios.plist says macpro 3,1- shouldn't it be 4,1?

 

-anybody got the similar mainboard running with kakewalk 2.2 and has its pci slot working? (not the pcie- they work fine as far as i can tell)

 

-sound: tried many different kexts like legacy applehda, voodoohda, tried dsdt hacks for the alc889- nothing helped (yes- using the kexthelper). BUT: it works now without any mod after reinstall on kakewalk 2.2 :blowup: . i'm not sure, what it is- system profiler shows me a shortened audio device list (like in the end of rocketlynx post).

the first time i became aware of the build in audio units in the audio pref pane was after resetting launch services with "cocktail".

i wouldn't dare to call the audio problem "solved"- but if someone with this sound issue want to try it. google for "launch service reset"- a terminal cmd can do as well as cocktail.

 

-system profiler still shows the wrong processor type, if someone has an idea... :wallbash: the least problem though..

 

reading a lot of misleading things about the GA-X58A-UD* i wished ppl would be more careful with the difference of a EX58* and X58A* boards.

 

finally thanks again to mrjanek- your help is very welcome and of course still very needed (where are you btw? all fine hopefully!). same for the people who provided all those little tools and bits that also kakewalk benefits of.

i would consider a donation for a little more support on this special mainboard.

Nevermind, figured it out using the Kakewalk CD creator tool. duh!

 

However, even after I got the CD working correctly and able to boot... my Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install disc starts up... but then crashes and says I need to restart.

 

Can't get past this :rolleyes:

GTX 470 (I know it's not supported yet, but doubt it's the issue)

Have you read the "readme" and made the necessary BIOS adjustments? AHCI, 64bit HPET, hard drive that you want to install to set as your first hdd (there are problems using 1Tb drives as the boot drive), etc?

No clue what the hell is going on. I've triple checked my BIOS settings and can't think of anything else.

Have you by any chance more than 4Gig memory ...if so remove some so you have 4 max, until the install is finished, then you can add again the rest.

Why do you doubt the Fermi card is the issue? It is an entirely new architecture, and it is not supported yet, as you say yourself. People can´t get Radeon 5000 series cards working (that I know of), and they have been out for 3/4 of a year now.

I do actually... I'll try that right now and see what the results are!

 

I don't recommend that... I did the installation of kakewalk with 8 gigs, then after some time I installed 4 more gigs, but the system never recognized more than 8 gigs.

 

Have been researching this problem for about two weeks now, and so far haven't found a solution. Well yes, only one that I haven't tried: reinstall from zero with the 12 gigs.

 

People tell me the problem lies in the dsdt that has the memory config hardcoded, but after decompiling it I don't know what do I have to change as it's a complicated file.

 

Still looking for a solution to that...

Well, I eventually got it installed.

 

I followed this guy's advice pretty much.

 

 

Hi. I am having issues installing Snow Leopard, with the final part of the install. I have tried multiple methods, and no success so far. But what has occured on every attempt is that the install has failed at the last section, with the error that the install is unable to bless the new installation.

This is what is in the logs.

 

Finalize disk "Snow" for OS Installation

Finalizing Disk for OS Install

Unable to set 'Snow' as boot disk: The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk

Install failed: The installer could not start up the computer from the disk "Snow". Try selecting your disk using the Startup Disk Utility.

 

Here is the hardware

Mainboard: ASUS p5kpl-cm - Chipset=Intel G31/ICH7

Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz)

Graphics: Nvidia 8600

Ram: 2GB

SATA Hard Drive (250GB, install location) IDE Hard drive (160GB, contains linux installation and a spare partition that I have been using for install files) and SATA pioneer DVD rom

 

Other possible issues - I can't get Chameleon working properly, for Leopard I used grub and boot_v9.

DSDT - Confuses me, and I dont think I put the DSDT file in the right place.

ACPI - turned on in the BIOS.

 

I have been using a modified boot-132 disk to install SL. When I installed Leopard, I managed to just use the boot-132 and Leopard retail disk, install OS X and then load a few kexts afterwards. Things have become more complicated since then. The last installation of Leopard I had was 10.5.8 but this suffered from a failed upgrade.

 

Is anyone able to help me with this? Thankyou.

 

 

EDIT - I have found a solution to this problem. This solution may possibly solve some kernel panic issues.

AFTER installation, Open up a terminal. There is a Utilities tab at the top.

Type in: diskutil unmount -f (where you have installed Snow leopard)

So for example for me,

diskutil unmount -f /Volumes/Snow

 

(note that it has to be forced)

close the terminal

 

Open up Disk Utility.

Click on your install location on the left hand side

Press Repair disk - This will fix the boot sequence.

Then press Repair Disk Permissions. This also fixes the boot sequence, BUT it can also fix up incorrect Kext permissions.

After this, I was able to successfully boot into 64-bit snow without any further issues (excluding sound, but Im working on that at the moment)

 

 

I did install with 4 gigs... but as soon as I threw in the extra 8 gigs, it recognized them no problem. So happy and cruising along at 12gigs now...

 

The things that I'm working on now are:

 

Getting onboard LAN working.

Getting onboard sound working.

Figuring out a way to get something out of my rad GTX470

Also, my CPU is like freakin CRAZY HOT just idling at the desktop... 90C+ WTF is going on there..

Get NullCPUPowerManagement.kext from www.kexts.com

 

Copy NullCPUPowerManagement.kext to /Extra/Extensions

 

Run Application Kext Utility 2.4.2 or Later from www.kexts.com

 

IMMEDIATLY Reboot

 

This MAY help with the Temperature Problem

Well, I eventually got it installed.

 

I followed this guy's advice pretty much.

 

I did install with 4 gigs... but as soon as I threw in the extra 8 gigs, it recognized them no problem. So happy and cruising along at 12gigs now...

 

The things that I'm working on now are:

 

Getting onboard LAN working.

Getting onboard sound working.

Figuring out a way to get something out of my rad GTX470

Also, my CPU is like freakin CRAZY HOT just idling at the desktop... 90C+ WTF is going on there..

I have exactly that happen with the current 2.2 Kakewalk... kernel panic during the snow leopard dvd boot for install. I had to drop back to the first 2.2 version of Kakewalk that mrjanek posted. I have no idea if it's still available on his site, but that one works for me.

Did you [Enable] the USB keyboard and mouse options in your BIOS settings? If not they won't work in the boot loaders.

 

Also, just f'ed up my install with kexts... reformatted and reinstalled fresh. I found out that even though the install doesn't finish, it's fine. I just have to boot up the first time AFTER the install with 4gigs or less RAM. Everything boots up fine, I run myHack and then shutdown. I pop back in the rest of my RAM and then everything boots up great.

 

Now on to getting my audio, network and gfx card up to speed.

 

 

 

 

Also, @ ProjectY... thanks for that tip but I was suspicious of just how well the heatsink was seated over the processor. So I took it off and found there was an area where thermal paste wasn't even touching. I redid everything, double checked that it was on their well and now it's idling at ~50C... still hotter than I'd like but a HELL of a lot better than 90C!!!!

Hi guys. I am having a hard time installing snow leopard on my pc with kakewalk. I am able to load the installation and start it but the progress bar always stops not far from the start. It seems my dvd drive just stops loading files to the HDD because when the progress bar stops I dont't hear it spinning loudly anymore.

 

What i've done:

- AHCI mode in the bios

- 64 bit mode in bios

- burned kakewalk to a cd, it loads fine.

- changed DVD drives, but it didn't help because the other drive gives me the same problem

- switched some things in the bios that relate to optical drives

- loaded optimized defaults in bios

- disconnect everything except for mouse and keyboard

- tryed other method: [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url]; exact same problem with that.

 

So I am really out of options now: it seems the drive itself is working fine but the pc makes it stop for some reason while installing snow leopard. The first drive I tryed is connected with SATA and the other with IDE.

 

My specs:

- Gigabyte p55-m UD2

- Nvidia Geforce 6600gt 256mb (I get the right resolution in install so it seems it is compatible with OSX)

- 200GB HDD

 

Does anyone see what i'm doing wrong? Would really appreciate the help :).

 

EDIT: well it actually seems to make progress now! It just took a veeeery long time to take it past 25 minutes to go. Sorry for bothering you guys :ninja:
