pretty sure he meant smaller than 1TB

yeah I have a couple of DL'd disk images of the retail dvd 10.6 and 10.6.3.

(both untouched)

and I've partitioned the drives to 500gb and taken 4 gb of ram out

looking at the install log it seems the installer quit because it was trying to write to the dvd image

and that was of course read only?

I've just put together a new build using the following....

Corsair 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400.

anybody help?

try install with only 4Gb memory, and see if that helps. add the memory back after all works

when installation of os x is complete your hackintosh behaves like an original mac. so dl the drivers from the website and install.

is everyone successfully getting sleep to work after using Kakewalk 2.2? mine isn't working...

OK, Kakewalk 2.2 worked perfectly for me using the CDROM method. Everything worked for a week rock solid.

Then I was trying to see what speed my network was running at, and I mucked about with the manual configuration for the network...which resulted in a smoked network in both OS X and windows 7, which I dual boot to. No connectivity at all.

I have no idea what I did. The RTL diagnostic utility found nothing wrong. Flashing the system bios fixed nothing. Putting the settings back to auto fixed nothing. So I have basically completely lost my network connectivity.

Can anyone think of something else I can try? I'm more than a little pissed at myself for doing what I did, trust me.

All help appreciated.

ETA: resetting the router seems to have done the trick. Carry on :cold:

best is to look on dual booting ....but it is easy (well it was for me)

1 power off PC

2 Disconnect SL Drive

3 install Windows 7

4 After install and all working, power off and reconnect SL drive

5 set in bios to boot from SL drive.

6 pres any key when boot loader countdown show.

then you have selections for drives, one will be SL and other will have system reserved and windows. to boot windows select system reserved (not 100% sure what it shows, might be something other than system reserved) but if you have 2 drives, one with SL and one with Win7 you will see 3 options in boot menu, selecting windows drive will not work, it's the other partition. Hope this makes some sense for you.

hmm, so i gave the sleepenabler kext for 10.6.3 from this thread a shot.

it goes to sleep immediately and then wakes up immediately at a key press (didn't do this before). however, the monitor stays asleep. i dont think its a vid issue though but moreso that it isnt coming back up completely because my apogee duet is blinking like it hasn't initialised yet.

so yea, that kext doesn't work... what else?

I'm going to try this to see if i get 5.1 on my alc889a, or if the sound is any better.

should i not waste my time if those are my reasons?

x.di made a post saying that he has gotten sound to work really well:

It's worth taking a look at what he says.

i deleted my 'alc889a_v2.kext ' and used his legacyhda, and edited dsdt, and i have no sound now. here is my /extra folder

I haven't tried x.di's sound changes, I actually don't have a running hackintosh yet.

Are you supposed to use a tool when you change kexts like "kext utility" (or something), did you do that when you added his kext files?

Have you PM'd him directly?

Sorry to hear that you have no sound now.

Hi everyone,

I finally managed to run my X58A UD3R based hackintosh with kakewalk.

(Dumped my ATI card and bought a Nvidia 9500GT. Thanks to thoses who helped me.)

Everything works fine exept that it can't wake up from sleep, it reboots when I hit keyboard or mouse.

I used the southbridge's SATA ports for my drives, not the Marvel/Gigabyte ones as told in some tuts.

There shouldn't be sleep troubles with Kakewalk install for OsX 10.6.3, should it?

I read some stuff about kexts needs for this kind of problem, but I don't know exactly what to do with my config...

Could anyone help me?

im in the exact same boat as you (read up a few posts - i've mentioned it multiple times now).

also, you need to update your signature to show you have the ex58a-ud3r board. is yours rev1.0 or rev2.0? tom sawyer on here has rev 1.0 and he got sleep working but my newer rev 2.0 has problems.

ive tried using the sleepenabler.kext (multiple versions) and each one will go to sleep but when waking up, it doesnt come back fully (monitor still asleep, firewire audio won't reinitialise).

so im sitting around patiently waiting/researching for an answer to this sleep thing too

Is istat Pro a reliable source for temperature readings? Are there better programs?

I have a noctua NH-D14 and am getting 40C, which is obviously way too high given that my i7 920 is running at stock settings. I have tried installing and uninstalling the heatsink (carefully cleaning off the thermal compound and putting the directed amount of fresh compound back on) and am still get readings between 38C-46C when 96% idle.

To add to that, on my EX58-UD5 board the yellow and green light indicators for overheating are on. I dont have the manual in front of me, but I don't think it is a major issue till the red light is on (meaning >60C), but it suggests that it may be even hotter than the reading temps.

I am still trying to get to a stable overclock. I am trying to avoid adding additional kekts, though I may resort to that if necessary. Sleep is a must and is working great. I currently have a 100% vanilla hackintosh that is back to working mostly pain free after by monitor issue. I'm even booting off the kakewalk disk because when I installed KakewalkBoot it made my OOB wireless card stop working.
