with the version kakewalk 2.2 sound works with the ud7 BUT not directlly after installation (network works fine !!)... you must reinstall the hda kext again... ( i must do this after a new installation of snowleopard on the x58a-ud7 )... but i don't know which hda kext it is really, their are some different versions i geht the applehda.kext for a first test and it works...

at the moment my problem is that now only stereo sound is supported, have anybody an idea if it's possible to use the onboard digital out (optical)... i want use this for connect with an dts receiver...

or it this is not supported any idea which intern (pci) soundsolution is interesting, AND work with optical output ??

thanks alot for informations

I don't know if digital out works or not ( I have no way to test) but everything I can test works (except 6.0Gb/s on the Marvel chip - Apple hasn't released any kexts for SATAIII yet). I don't know what mrjanek did to the 2.2 bootloader, but if you update to it from a previous bootloader, you will have to re-install the patched apple.hda.kext for ALC889 available from:

http://www.kexts.com/view/334-binary_patch...for_alc889.html

I suspect you will have to do this everytime you update the bootloader.

If you don't feel like searching, see post #2695 on this topic

for a comparison of the X58A-UD5, UD7 and EX58-UD5 see my post #2741 on this topic.

Could you describe in more detail the steps and tools you used to re-install the HDA kext to get sound (stereo audio) working on the X58A-UD7 with SL 10.6.2? My attempt with the same MB have not worked. My understanding is that once one upgrades to 10.6.3 a different solution is needed but for now 10.6.2 is good enough.

Thanks in advance,

Guys, I have the first version of Minimal Effort installed. It's the earliest version from november!!! It's 10.6.0 version. Can I update to 10.6.3 straight and, if not, what must I do? I can replace the old bootloader if that will help, before updating? Tnx in advance. It's q6600, gtx285 and Gigabyte p45 ud3lr system.

Apart from minor updates the updater offers, major cambined is 825mb

Thank you, mrjanek! You have a donation on the way!

I finally finished my Hackintosh build and wanted to share the specs with the thread. It's built as a low-mid-budget, high-powered Photoshop machine. I think the final cost was under $1600 (not including failed wireless network attempts). My goal was to have a well-ventilated machine for handling >200GB of Photoshop scratch in a 64-bit MAC OS-X environment for Photoshop CS5 and going online and watching HD movies... and I wanted to do it easily without a lot of hacking. I can now work on >60GB files with no lag whatsoever, browse the web thru my apartment's wireless-n router, and play HD video all at the same time on 2 monitors (I was given the Viewsonic monitor a couple years ago from a friend and it's not in the best shape but works for a utility monitor, so I did not include that in my estimate).

Specs are in my signature, but I've posted screenshot that should give you a pretty good overview. I can't run ethernet cable in my apartment, so I use an ethernet to wireless-n gaming adapter. Sound works perfect, HD Video hardly taxes the system, and I can play it on my second monitor while Photoshopping on the primary or vice versa. And the shining jewel, 386 MB/s Up/Down large-file throughput for my Photoshop scratch and the hard drives stay a chilly 28-30 degrees Centigrade...

Hi folks, I finally managed to get audio work. For the record: mobo - GA-EX58A-UD7 ALC889.

I used those files (kexts and DSDT) from the link below. Im running 10.6.2, cause in 10.6.3 i couldn't boot to a hdmi HDTV.

Thanks to all.

Anyone found a solution to the 533 fsb speed problem with kakewalk 2.2?

Yes. Use ##### + #####.

There is a problem with Kakewalk.

Hi mrjanek

Would it be possible to enable the motherboard Gigabyte EP45-DS3L on the Next Version of the CD. Please

The resources appear to be in the application but not enabled.

Thanks in advance

Ray

Dalgar - Great to hear you're loving it, minus the minor snafu.

Under 'Finder' select 'Preferences' and tick 'Hard disks' then your volumes will show on the desktop.

That should do it.

After I finished the install with KakeWalk it threw me for a small loop at first, going, hmm, where's my drives, grin. It doesn't have them default showing on the desktop like the standard OSX install for some reason.

But, as you can see, it's easy enough to remedy.

OzSpeedway - Have you tried the ##### option to enable sound? I know it's working for the 889 for my X58A-UD3R and it does have the kexts for others as well. May be worth a shot.

Here's hoping.

Hmm, ok that was weird, it combined 2 posts into one, not sure what happened there, either I'm loopy, need a drink or both.

I have used the ##### option but the only way I can get sound is through the headphone jack on the front of my case. When you say you have sound, are you fully functional, or are you limited to the headphone jack as well? Here's a screen shot of my sound info in Device Profiler:

;)

ok....my ud7 x58a and audio working...fantastic ...the package name kakewalk...not 2,1 or 2,2

Please contact me for your issue

@ Magnifico10 - I would really appreciate any advice you can offer on getting the audio to work. I have the x58a ud3r, but I'm assuming it will be a similar process since they are both using the 889. Yes? No?

Tesla, take a look at the ##### tool from tonymac. Lots of info here in this own thread on the ##### and how it fixes the sound situation on the x58a-ud3r. Also when installing each os I recommend installing each to it's own drive. This works insanely easy. For me I install win 7 first, unplugged the drive installed osx plus multibest, plugged back the second drive with win 7 and during boot if I hit the space bar it stops the auto osx bootup and lets me select osx or win7.

I have the same mb as you and once installing the ##### tool selecting our sound chipset and other goodies the sound was fine as was the ability to select other os's during boot graphically.

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/02/mul...stallation.html

@ddorbuck - Which options did you select in ##### to get the sound working fully? I have tried the things I've seen recommended but it doesn't seem to work. The best I get is headphone jack only.

I returned the X58A-UD5 and picked up the supported X58A-UD3R

No the USB Install image doesn't even load?

Has anyone seen this issue?

Charles

Charles, I could never get the USB install to load either--and I'm using the same board (X58A-UD3R). However, the CD boot version worked perfectly. I'd give that a shot instead.

Officially supported (in other words, works out of the box).. on the ATI side, the 4870. On the Nvidia side... it should be the GTX 285 as that card is available in a mac version, but I've seen no one 100% confirm that. The 9800 GT works OOTB, I've had one of those and it's not a bad card.

Bang for the buck, I think the 4870 is the best choice. I picked up two of them at 200 for both on eBay.

GL!

Glad to hear your machine is running beautifully! Sound has been the thing I've struggled the most with and as I mentioned in a previous post I ended up punting on it and went with a USB sound solution..

But, I was able to get sound working on my board (X58-UD3R) by using the 889 kext install through #####. I've attached a screen shot of the one I used. This was after running the kakewalkboot installer again post a 10.6.3 update. I removed the LegacyHDA.kext from /Extra/Extensions that kakewalk places, ran the ##### install, reboot and sound worked. My remaining problem even with that solution is that it extended my boot time quite a bit. Not the end of the world, but not being totally set on the speakers I had anyway I decided to let that be an excuse to do a nice upgrade to the speakers I have now.

Hope that helps! There is another interesting suggestion on here about a series of reboots with a -v -f boot flag tweak in the middle... thats worth giving a try too!

On your EVGA GTX 285, did that work out of the box or did you have to do some tweaking (DSDT, kexts etc) to get it to fully work?

post-515617-1274011749_thumb.png

@ Tom Sawyer - You suggested that the best bang for the buck is the 4870 and you picked up two of them. Does Snow Leopard recognize both cards? Are you setup in crossfire mode? I thought I had read that crossfire didn't work in SL. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I currently have a 9800 GT installed and working perfectly out of the box. I'm really nervous to go messing with it but I know I'm going to want a higher performance card. I have a 260 GTX sitting here that I'm thinking about installing, but if your 2 X4870 is working great, I think I'll return both cards and go with your set up since the 4870's outperform the 260 GTX in most benchmarks I've seen.

I'm curious about how difficult the process would be to change a card. Do I need to completely reinstall SL with the new card in place? Or can I swap them out and have it work?

hello all. sorry if my english is bad. im trying to build my hackintosh and cant for the life of me get it to even boot the apple screen. i have

x58a-udr3

i7-930

9800 gtx

no cd drive

16 gb cruzer hard drive

normal keyboard

usb logitech bluetooth mouse

1)i partition the drive with GUID and then tried again with MBR

2)restored snowleo 10.6.3 to it and

3)then installed kakewalk.

but i never get to the apple logo screen. i always get stuck at verifying DMI pool data.

i wanted to install the snow leopard server but i was not even able to install the kakewalk installer when it was the server install disc that i used to restore.

i also have and IDE cd drive i can connect to it but not sure hwat setting to put in bios

not sure which version my bios is if that matter. but i tried few bios settings, nothing has worked

anyone have any thoughts and can help me plz

I had this problem with the USB install method too. Very frustrating. However, the CD install option worked perfectly. I'd give that a shot and see if you have better luck!

I just want to add my success with using Kakewalk 2.2 for the install on my Gigabyte P35-DS3R. I used the EP45-UD3R since it matched my motherboard pretty closely. Sound worked perfect out of the box, found my 8800GT and seems to be 100%. Specs are below

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R

Core2Duo 1.6 Ghz

2Gb (4x512) DDr2-800

250Gb WD Sata HD

Sata DVD-RW

HELP!!! I'm hoping I didn't screw things up beyond repair...

I was trying to get my sound to work and I followed these instructions that were posted in this thread several pages back.

"For the curious, I ran it off the USB restoring with the SL DVD, which helped me get the LAN working, and then used ##### to get the sound working, had to take out the LegacyHDA kext from E/E, add the Legacy889 kext, the HDAEnabler, and the VooDooHDA 2.56 instead of AppleHDA. Now runs like a dream. These boards really helped. Thanks to all."

More specifically, I searched for the LegacyHDA and moved it to the trash. Then I ran #####, and added the legacy889 kext, the HDA Enabler, and the VooDooHDA 2.56.

When it finished, the screen washed grey and had a message written in several languages that said, "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again."

I restarted the computer but now, after the bootloader options screen, it goes to the normal looking apple loading screen and instead of starting up, it just displays that same message over and over again. ;)

Can anybody help me revert to my previous settings? Have I totally screwed up this install? Do I need to start over?

Before I tried this, I did use super duper! to create a backup image that is stored on another drive in the machine. Anyway to restore from that image?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. As of now....I'm sunk. :(

Is there a way to install a 2nd video card so I can use 3 Monitors?

Hi SnowFlakes,

I have a GeForce GTX 260 and a BlackMagic Intensity Pro.

The first one is a graphic card while the second is a video card.

Don't know what is the purpose of your third monitor but just in case I told you.

In my case, GTX 260 feds two Dell 23" monitors, while Intensity Pro feds a 42" LCD TV.

First Dell monitor for ProTools Edit window, Second Dellmonitor for Plug Ins windows and 42" TV for video display.

All via HDMI cables.

Sound post for film and TV.

UPDATE: Ok, I think disaster was averted...

I used the KakewalkCD to boot the SL dvd. From there I used disk utility to restore the superduper! backup image that I created this morning. I rebooted and received a boot error. It wasn't getting to the bootloader screen. So I put the KakewalkCD back in the drive, then used it to select the SSD I had just restored to and.... it worked! To my surprise certainly.

So I ran the KakeawalkBoot package again from the dvd, restarted, took out the KakewalkCD and the system booted normally. Thank goodness!!

Ok, so now I'm back where I started this morning--Pre FREAK OUT! I'd still love to hear some feedback on my two remaining issues:

Sound: After reinstalling the KakewalkBoot my sound does not work at all. Not even the headphone jack that had worked earlier. What should I try? This certainly did NOT work: "For the curious, I ran it off the USB restoring with the SL DVD, which helped me get the LAN working, and then used ##### to get the sound working, had to take out the LegacyHDA kext from E/E, add the Legacy889 kext, the HDAEnabler, and the VooDooHDA 2.56 instead of AppleHDA. Video Card: I'm running a 9800 GT 1GB right now and it works just fine. But I have a 260GTX as well and I'm trying to figure out how messy the install process would be if I wanted to put this 260GTX in there right now. Any thoughts? Do I need to reinstall SL from scratch using Kakewalk method? Can I just swap out the cards, see what happens, and put the 9800 GT back in if it goes wrong?

Basically, how bad can I screw up my system by switching cards?

I've also considered sending both cards back and getting 1 or 2 4870's or 4890's. I've read mixed reviews regarding both cards and I'd love to hear your input on these.

As a general inquiry, I know that Mac Pros can run multiple nvidia cards straight from apple.com. However, can it run 2 4870's or 4890's? Does linking them together via crossfire work in OSX? Is it supported.

I only have a few days left to return these products. I'd really appreciate any insight!

Thanks as always!

@ mrjanek,

i have problems with my airport (pci card) when i put another card in my system. first i tried a pci firewire card, suddenly airport wasnt activated any longer. although i immediately removed the firewire card of my hackmac, airport wasn´t available any more. i bought a new pci-e firewire card, which works now as expected. BUT my old pci wifi card is now again deactivated.

has this to do with dsdt? why i can only have one working card in my pc (except graphics card)?

please can you give me a hint what to do!?

Hi,

I finally have audio working with my X58A-UD3R.

I tried using the updated Kakewalk 2.2 usb method but ran into two issues:

1) the bootloader doesn't seem to work in the 2.2 version (which i got around by using the cd to boot).

2) after applying the Kakewalk 2.2 pkg the system will no longer boot the 64 bit kernel.

Fortunately I still have the earlier Kakewalk usb installer on a second usb stick and installed snow leopard using that. No sound of course and orange drive icons.

In a nutshell i used ##### from the tonymac website.

To get sound working I followed the instructions in the first post of this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2084

To get normal hard drive icons I then followed the instructions here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2106

Be sure to check off only the kext(s) in ##### that you need and check off system utilities as well so that it repairs permissions following the kext(s) install.

All is working now on my i7 system!

Hi germanicus

I run my Firewire card in SLOT2, perhaps try the wifi in slot 2

I have the same MoBo and noticed something odd when trying to get my PCI firewire card (Delock, Nec chip) to work. In the upper (= closer to the cpu) socket the card was not recognized in system profiler, the card did not work and error messages regarding firewire appeared in system.log. I moved the card to the lower socket and it works as expected, the error messages disappeared but the card still does not show up in system profiler.

So, if you put the WIFI card in the lower socket, does it still interfere with the PCIe card? Did you check your dmesg output for errors? Are both cards listed in system profiler?

I would like to add a WIFI card to my hack and, with the upper PCI slot not being usable, planned on using a PCIe card. So any clarification on this is much appreciated.

Hi germanicus

I run my Firewire card in SLOT2, perhaps try the wifi in slot 2

Ray

hi ray,

in fact the wifi card is in pci slot 2. pci slot 1 is empty, in pci-e x16 slot is the graphics card, in pci-e x1 slot number 2 is the firewire card.

So, if you put the WIFI card in the lower socket, does it still interfere with the PCIe card? Did you check your dmesg output for errors? Are both cards listed in system profiler?

as i wrote, the wifi card is in the lower slot (slot 2). it was there from the beginning.

it showed up in the system profiler as airport.

i don´t know how to look for errors in dmesg. what´s that?

when i added the first firewire card (pci, delock/nec) in pci slot 1, it the wifi card in pci slot 2 wasn´t any longer recognized. even when i removed the pci firewire from slot 1, the wifi card wasn´t active any longer. i tried to re-activate airport in the system settings, no luck. i had to reinstall snow leo (in fact i restored an old clone backup).

so i decided to buy a pci-e firewire card (TI) and leave the pci wifi card in pci slot 2.

i got the same: immediately the wifi wasn´t recognized any more. but this time the firewire card shows up in the network section and is obviously working.

tomorrow i´ll try to remove the pci-e firewire card and i´ll see, if the airport shows up again or if i have to restore the clone backup again (and again and again... i hate that).

Ok I apologize in advance for this not-on-topic question. I would still appreciate an answer but understand if no one does.

Could someone describe the steps necessary to install Snow Leopard on a hard drive connected to my Mini and then install into my MBP? My MBP has suffered from heat stroke (GPU died) and it had a lot of sensitive client data on it that I had to recover so I took the drive out. I've recovered the data but I want wipe the disk and put a fresh SL install on before I bring it to the Genius Bar. I'd love to have my MBP back.

Please let me know. Thanks!!

Are you still supporting Kakewalk ???
i suppose, not. he is quiet for months now...

i think i will change to cartri´s gigabyte bios mod if version 0.8 comes out. it is by far more "vanilla" than kakewalk and with version 1.0 boots os x by bios loader, no more chameleon required.

I've just put together a new build using the following....

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9505 2.83GHz.

Samsung SH-S223 22X DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA

2x Seagate 1TB Hard Drive SATAII

I used the Usb version of kakewalk and every thing works well until halfway through SL 10.6.2 install

I get the message 'cannot install on this computer' and 'resources missing'

anybody help?

Hi LoReZ 22

Things that contribute to this problem are :-

1) you need to have A Copy of Snowleopard Installer Disc (Original) 10.6.0 ( Retail ) or 10.6.3

2) Hard drive needs to SMALLER than 1 Gig TB (OOPS) (Partition for eg 2 x 500 Gig)

I have found that the CD Version works best for this Motherboard. Mine is ep45T-ud3lr (ddr3 instead of ddr2)

Ps Have a look in my signature something there might help

Good luck Ray
