  1. AND THEN... NEARLY FOUR YEARS LATER!!! THE TOPIC CAME BACK TO LIFE
  2. fermi/gtx 480/gtx 470

I just built my hackintosh rig with the X58A-UD3R, i7 930 and the EVGA GTX 470. I am posting this from my hackintosh, unfortunately I'm stuck at 1024x768 and it obviously has no clue wtf kinda gfx card I've got in my box. Going to try and get dual boot Win7 going so I can cruise around in an OS that respects my awesome graphical power. haha, but seriously, would LOVE to get this thing recognized. Installed from a retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 CD I picked up yesterday from the Apple store.
  3. X58A-UD3R and retail SL 10.6.3 install issue

Actually, the latest version (2.2) of Kakewalk is confirmed to cause a kernel panic with this board specifically. Apparently there was an earlier version of 2.2 somewhere that worked. Either way, I got Empire EFI to work. I just had to have no more than 4gigs of RAM in during installation. After I installed and used myHack 1.0 RC4.1 I have a stable system with 12gigs of RAM. Still working on getting audio, gfx and the network card to work... but I think I'll nail these by the end of the day since so many people have already done it with this board.
  4. Did you [Enable] the USB keyboard and mouse options in your BIOS settings? If not they won't work in the boot loaders. Also, just f'ed up my install with kexts... reformatted and reinstalled fresh. I found out that even though the install doesn't finish, it's fine. I just have to boot up the first time AFTER the install with 4gigs or less RAM. Everything boots up fine, I run myHack and then shutdown. I pop back in the rest of my RAM and then everything boots up great. Now on to getting my audio, network and gfx card up to speed. Also, @ ProjectY... thanks for that tip but I was suspicious of just how well the heatsink was seated over the processor. So I took it off and found there was an area where thermal paste wasn't even touching. I redid everything, double checked that it was on their well and now it's idling at ~50C... still hotter than I'd like but a HELL of a lot better than 90C!!!!
  5. Well, I eventually got it installed. I followed this guy's advice pretty much. I did install with 4 gigs... but as soon as I threw in the extra 8 gigs, it recognized them no problem. So happy and cruising along at 12gigs now... The things that I'm working on now are: Getting onboard LAN working. Getting onboard sound working. Figuring out a way to get something out of my rad GTX470 Also, my CPU is like freakin CRAZY HOT just idling at the desktop... 90C+ WTF is going on there..
  6. X58A-UD3R and retail SL 10.6.3 install issue

Well, I was able to get it boot, even though it said install failed. Basically I unmounted the drive AFTER installation, repaired the disk, restarted and booted using the Empire EFI CD. It loaded up the SL install and then I ran myHack and patched everything from there. You are right, gfx aren't recognized, but I wasn't expecting them to be. However, I WOULD love to get sound and the onboard internet working!
  7. I do actually... I'll try that right now and see what the results are!
  8. I'll start off with the system specs Gigabyte X58A-UD3R 12gigs of OCZ 1600 ram 1TB Western Digital SATA HD EVGA Geforce GTX470 A retail copy of Snow Leopard 10.6.3 So... I've used that latest version of Empire EFI to boot from. I pop in the SL CD and everything runs smoothly. It gets to about 99% done with the install and then FAILS!!! The reason given to me is: The Bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk I've Googled that and found a few suggestions, none of which seem to have solved the issue. When I run the disk utility and have it verify the HD, it comes back as if everything is fine. However when I reboot and try to start it up through the EFI boot CD again, it starts to load and then crashes and my computer turns off. Very puzzled as to what could be going on here. Any ideas? Thoughts? or even possibly something I've missed after scouring various forums for the past 5 hours?
  9. wish someone would write up one of these 10.6.3 guides for use with an X58A-UD3R board. Having some major issues.
  10. One last note... I am able to get Snow Leopard 10.6.3 to begin installing when I use Empire EFI to boot from. However it fails at like 90%... WTF!!! No clue what the hell is going on. I've triple checked my BIOS settings and can't think of anything else. Yes, I've made all of the BIOS adjustments and I partitioned my drive to be 2x500gb partitions... It shouldn't be an issue if I understand correctly. And like I just posted above... I'm able to get about 90% through the install when I use the Empire EFI. Not sure what I should try next Doesn't make much sense to me.
  11. Nevermind, figured it out using the Kakewalk CD creator tool. duh! However, even after I got the CD working correctly and able to boot... my Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install disc starts up... but then crashes and says I need to restart. Can't get past this X58A-UD3R mobo i7-930 12gigs OCZ 1600 ram GTX 470 (I know it's not supported yet, but doubt it's the issue) 1TB WD SATA HD ideas?
  12. Am I not seeing something very obvious here? I just downloaded the new Kakewalk 2.2 .zip to burn onto a CD. Your instruction say to just burn the .iso but the .zip just has two folders in it... So I burned the folders onto a CD, told my comp to boot from CD and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong here?
  13. Leopard on a dell studio 15 and 17

Hey guys. Just wanted to say hello to the community and that I will be specifically working on the Studio series compatibilty. I believe these laptops will be amazing once they have everything up and running (emphasis on video card right now). I've got a Studio 1737 and I have vanilla Kalyway 10.5.1 on it right now. Trying to upgrade it but having a hell of a time finding places to download anything since TPB went down.
