Hi bertmann, i think to have done some 'damage' :(

I've installed the newset realtek driver that you have linked some posts ago (while my USR card was still plugged-in) and after reboot... i've belived that in 'system preferences' i should found 2 ethernet cards... but it was not so! :P

Trying to solve the problem i've runned the 'uninstall command' included in the installer package, reboot and... nothing. I've looked in the /S/L/E IONetworkFamily and i've noticed that the RTL8169 file (modified to recognize the USR) was missing!!

Any suggestions about that?

Thanks :D

hi,

for ATI 4850 problems, just follow netkas' here and install ATI package from his blog BUT first be sure to undo changes you did to ati4000.kext, i think it should be vanilla and let netkas do his magic :D

be sure to use "OSinstall.mpkg"

is it an dell optiplex 755?

that's a bit weird, you can ping into the world but safari won't connect to the internet?!

  1. check your settings in system preferences / network
  2. check order of services, ethernet should be at first place
  3. download firefox from another computer, install it on your dell and try again connecting to internet trough firefox
  4. in systemprofiler, check HARDWARE-UUID, 00000000-0000-1000-8000-XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX=has to be your ethernet id
  5. check your boot.plist EthernetBuiltIn with y should be set so that chameleon injects the pci root and stuff

thanks, i try to bail out you guys :(

ask for more ;) good luck

[NEW]

I SLOVED IT :D

It was pretty Easy .... I should say I WAS STUPID

all I have to do is ... move the IONetworkingFamily.kext from S/L/E to E/E

run kext Utility once, reboot and smile :)

now all that's left is Rebooting and Shutdown and sleep ... all 3 hanged or Panic

[i'm not going to delete below's old message .. just to let people know how stupid i was

or perhapes it will help someone else ]

Hello bertmannaustria

Thanks for the reply

[newly added]

OKOKOK

This is what I find out ...

before installing everything else ... Fresh install 10.6.1 with chameleon 10.4.1

only FakeSMC installed ....

I install INTEL Intel82566MM,kext ... it actually works (I have to run in -x mode since display driver not installed)

then I install 4870 Driver EVO method ... arch=i386 works with 4870 and Intel82566

after I install the sound voodooHDA .. the lan fail to work

I am Sooooo confuse after readding your reply :P

First ... what is order of services ? :P is it like click perfrences -> network ? Ethernet 0 is on top

UUID for lancard .... I got this screen shoot ... am I at the right place

Picture1-1.png

check your boot.plist EthernetBuiltIn with y should be set so that chameleon injects the pci root and stuff

This is PCI EFI 10.4.1 with

<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>

<string>y</string>

Correct ?

by the way .... I've got a few other lan cards

Intel pro 1000 GT

Intel Pro 1000 DT dual port

Realteck 8139D

these 3 cards are working with my old IONetworkingFamily.kext but just can't get an ip from DHCP

and my Intel82566MM

i got this still :P with NO INTERNET connection from Safari .. and Mobile service and Software updates

hmm is it the same in 32 and 64 bit mode?

i think i'm starting to love netkas too...lol

anyway i just redid a hard drive using the new boot file form netkas

i didn't use the kext as one post on his site said you don't need them for 4870 cards.

put the hard drive into the UD4P machine and it booted with out any issues no loud fan nothing

so again thank you.

only thing i noticed is the mouse is not smooth

this happens on three cards i tried... ATI 4870...Nvidia 9800 gtx and GTX275

could it be the size of the screen...27" dell...as the 9800gtx on my wife's comp is very smooth.

i'm gonna have a look at it, please pm me if i'm note reposting, i got sooooo many questions to solve :)

Hello again bertmannaustria

Do I really need the DSDT.aml ?

what happens if I don't use it

everything works when I'm without it ... will something go wrong ? I'm scare now

[EDIT] NEW ADD

Nope ... it only works on 32 bit with arch=i386

and I have to delete them Everytime

com.apple.network.identification.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

to get the lan Fully working

but after restart these 2 files just comes back

you should use the dsdt.aml because most tables are made for running on windows machines :)

Hey there,

Great post!

I have the EX-58 UD5 running with GTX-260 as well.

Do you have it running with two outputs?

I have a GTX-260 running, works fine. But i´m not able to get both outputs!

What about yours?

@bertmannaustria,

i agree with Schnekenberg - great post;-)

You wrote that you´re using a 260 either, do you got it to work with two outputs?

What do you think about using a second card for getting one diaplay more???

Greetings from graz :-) (Ok, now i´m back in germany, but till yesterday i´ve been in austria! ;-)

Hi all, Well I've finally got everything running smoothly in 64 bit mode (with the exception of stable sleep which is okay because I've never used that anyway). I've had my EP45-DQ6 working in 64 bit almost from the getgo, but this EX58-UD4P has been a bear for me to get something stable for the ethernet. You can see my spec in my #1 sig (I know, I have to change my sig now).

Thanks goes to Bit Shoveler for this 32/64 bit kext:

http://www.kexts.com/view/133-realtek_r100...4_bit!.html

I tried this in E/E and with several flavors of chown and chmod, I couldn't get it to work. It works perfectly though in S/L/E by setting permissions manually or by using kexthelper. For audio, I'm using ALC889a.kext in E/E. I'm using PC EFI 10.5 with EthernetBuiltIn and GraphicsEnabler marked as 'y'. I was using an EFI string for my video, the GraphicsEnabler works great so I discontinued the EFI string. I'm also using the latest fakesmc.kext as opposed to dsmos.kext

I'm using ntfs-3g v.2009.4.4 and MacFuse 2.1.7 (I think) to get stable ntfs read and write in 64 bit mode. I've tested several small projects in CS4 and FCS2 and they are solid. I connected my Panasonic AG-DVX100B and AG-HMC150 and they all run smoothly too. All this stuff worked perfectly in 32 bit mode from the beginning. I just wanted to double check on 64 bit mode and am very pleased.

Now, I know that I probably won't see much of a difference between running in 32 or 64 bit mode, but it's kind of neat to have the capability.

Hey you can also do this for NATIVE NTFS support:

In terminal type:

"sudo nano /etc/fstab"

edit the file to read:

"UUID=2DC49D3A-4555-4D6C-B097-0AACC4D81945 none ntfs rw" - where "2DC49D3A-4555-4D6C-B097-0AACC4D81945" is your own HD's UUID. Can be found by typing "diskutil info /Volumes/"VolumeName" in terminal.

If your HD does not have a UUID you can also use:

"LABEL=Vantec none ntfs rw" - where "Vantec" is your HDs name.

then umount and remount your drive and boom...native snow leopard ntfs support.

By the way. What does Bertmannaustria mean when talking about "patching your own dsdt file???".

Can't I just use his file he provided in the main thread?

Thank you,

Oh my f*cking god, if you gonna use my dsdt.aml, the institution of marriage will be destroyed! Societies will crumble! Rivers will run with blood! Nazis will once again ride dinosaurs!

hmm no, you can use my dsdt.aml if you are on a ud4p board with an intel core i7 920 cpu, otherwise it may won't work :) btw it's always better to have your own dsdt because systems mostly are unique.

Alright...thanks for the random response :-D.

Soooo...how would I get/make/create my own dsdt.aml file?

BIG EDIT!!! : OH!! Wow...well that was easy... I guess I simply had to download a dsdt patcher like DSDT PATCHER GUI.

Does it scan your hardware or something and then create a dsdt file specifically for your hardware???

An explanation here would perfection! :-D

This is my system:

ex58-ud4p

onboard sound and ethernet ( I looked up the NIC cards you suggested to buy but I can't seem to find them anywhere here in Canada) Though apparently this new kext is supposed to work : http://www.kexts.com/view/133-realtek_r100...4_bit!.html

Have you gotten your optical output sound to work yet?

Thank you for the great tutorial! A+

Hey you can also do this for NATIVE NTFS support:

Hi, Native NTFS support is very suspect right now and is extremely unstable (even on my MacPro). If you haven't had any data corruption yet, it's not so much about "if" it will happen, it's "when" it will happen. Along with many others on a variety of fora, it's very easy to corrupt data, erase data altogether, and almost not be able to access those drives, even in Windows. This is probably why this is disabled by default by Apple. Thanks for the info though.

That's really weird...I haven't had an issue so far.

So can someone tell me how to "patch my own dsdt.aml file? I've never done it...

Also did anyone get their onboard ethernet and sound to work?

Thank you!!!

Just want to report the 10.6.2 appears to work great with the EX58-UD4P. I don't usually have SleepEnabler installed so the update was seamless (through Apple Update). The only tweak that needed was that sound needed to be re-established in System Config and clicking back to Internal Speakers.

for me updating to 10.6.2 caused a KP...removed sleepenabler kext by hooking the drive to my wifes hackintosh and it was all good again.

not sure why i bothered with it in the first place as i never put the comp to sleep.

my only problem is my mouse movement is not very smooth when trying to be precise with the mouse the mouse cursor jumps a bit, anyone else having similar problems?

not sure if it's my nvidia card 9800GTX+ as my wifes hackitosh running slow leopard has a 9800GT and it's working perfectly a friend using 9800GX2 has no issues either.

in win7 mouse is perfect...i'd like to fix it if possible as i use alot of photoshop to do retouching work etc. and need smoothe mouse movement.

apart from that set up is perfect.

my specs

Can someone point me to a kext for the onboard networking that works with 64bit?

When I try to do kextload AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext I get Executable does not contain code for architecture: x86_64.

Hey, try this one:

Thanks for that! - got the networking working with the above link and booted 64bit, but unfortunately my sound card is an E-MU 0404USB and there are no 64bit drivers :(

I didn't try to get onboard sound working, rebooted back into 32bit mode to get audio :(

Damn you Creative and your false promises.

I didn't try to get onboard sound working, rebooted back into 32bit mode to get audio ;)

For onboard audio, I'm using alc899a.kext in my E/E folder and 64 bit mode works fine with that. You may have other audio needs than I do, but onboard audio is plenty sufficient for me.

thanks for the step-by-step info on installing SL. i couldn't get it to install the 10.6.1 update though. just wondering if anyone knows which kext works for the onboard lan? somehow i ended up toasting mine. killed it even in windows so somehow i did something that affected the bios. got things back to normal for now but i'm wondering if anyone has a working kext for the onboard lan for this mobo? thanks.

Can you give me a link to that audio kext you're using?

Did you have to remove any other kexts (like AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext in S/L/E) in order to get yours working?

Hi, Several others have been asking for this kext. Here's the version that works for me:

Do I simply drag and drop it in E/E and then drag the folder extensions onto kext utility?

Did you remove any other kexts?

Thanks for the link!

You just have to add it into our E/E folder. I never use an extensions.mkext file in my EFI partition so I don't know how it will it will react with kext utility. Make sure you don't have any other audio kexts that you installed on either E/E or S/L/E.
