Hey breakingbad, could you update that link?

The link on AppleHDA.kext to work on 10.6.5 ?

OF course.

Here it goes

AppleHDA.kext from Tmonkgol - you can go to cartri.net to see much more on Gigabyte boards.

Cheers,

BB.

Hmmmm...

I followed you rinstruction bb and sound still isn't working. Any suggestions?

System Prefs displays Soundflower ch2 and Soundflower ch16 as output options.... neither works.

Hey tastyfrog... when you did your install, did you used the Soundflower scheme to achieve 5.1 sound to your speakers? If yes, that may be the cause, because this instructions were sent to me by Cartri who posted it in his thread too.

If you have your sound simply using his BIOS, this should work perfectly, like worked here and to some of other users, but if you did the trick using the Soundflower scheme, it may not work properly.

I confess that I don't have a clue on how to solve the problem.

Try reverting your sound to stock options and using only AppleHDA.kext to enable sound and do the steps I mentioned in previous post.

Im not an expert, but....

I would make sure that you have the alc88 plugged into the motherboard and not the hdAudio from the case you bought....if that makes sense. REMEMBER- what I just said could make no sense at all, but worth checking.

Anyways, FYI on 10.6.5 update:

I removed SleepEnabler.kext from my Extra/Extensions folder and removed it from the trash before my update to 10.6.5. My update then did not install and I got an error. I tried to boot and got Kernel Panic.

....so.... I re-installed the SleepEnabler.kext with a USB stick via terminal and booted pmVersion=20 on bootloader screen...... (I boot "ignore cahches" or -f when all else fails and most of the time have good luck) This allowed me to boot back into 10.6.4. Then, I downloaded the new SleepEnabler.kext for 10.6.5 and replaced the old one and updated ONLY the mac OS update...(I waited until I got a successful 10.6.5 update before updating the safari, itunes, etc... updates) I also removed my external hard drive, which has given me problems in the past. I actually updated with sleepenabler.kext in my extensions folder and booted ignoring caches and IT WORKED! (I use a turtle beach usb audio stick...so audio is not an issue)

My two main issues and what I have learned along the way:

EXTERNAL HD - (Western Digital) if I have problems booting or updating... I remove and re-boot

RAM- (crucial - ballistic 2gb stix) if I have problems booting.... i remove a stick or purchase new (ALL THE SAME KIND SEEMS TO WORK BETTER) ... and re-boot

I always try to boot ignoring cache and pmVersion=0 before I panic.

Hope this help anyone.

Thanks

Hi mates.

What I would suggest to all of you guys is to update using the 10.6.5 ComboUpdate. As Cartri said in his blog - cartri.net:

Hello!

This post is just to make you all the recommendation of waiting for the COMBO UPDATE to update your systems to 10.6.5. if you are using Mac Bios (and hackintoshes in general). That is reportedly the same build released some days ago as testing release, and shall appear in Apple’s site soon. (Users report working system using automatic update, but I really recommend you all to use the COMBO: the automatic update will not update any changes to other pieces then MacPro3 and our systems are all ich10/MacPro4 based)

Hope this help prevent bad updates.

Cheers,

bb.

OK an update ,I finally got a sata dvd drive to install my snow leopard ,everything went very well.So it was the ide drive all along.

I can get into snow without problems with the ide dvd drive attached ,it was just installing that did not work.

So now I have a few issues , I have no sound- using a creative audigy 4 platinum card.

I also lost my windows 7 boot, but can still get into windows via osx options. I tried a win7 startup fix but win7 dvd does not see any startup errors, how can I fix that?

Also can I use some of the software updates in snow leopard? I am at 10.6.3 version.

Runs very well with this mobo, everything is fast under snow leopard.Thks

Well, this is an start. :)

About sound, I won't be able to help since I use ALC888 from mobo.

You may find info on that in the forum, almost sure.

About boot options, you'll need to install a bootloader like Chameleon (if you use Cartri BIOS I would suggest Chameleon RC5 from his blog) in order to be able to dual boot. The bootloader "see" all the bootable drives when you start computer.

Yeah. Most of the updates you can do it via Software Update.

As you're in 10.6.3 yet, I'd say to you to download the 10.6.5 Combo Update so you can be up to date with system and then you do the other updates. This way all the updates will be available for latest OS version.

I hope I have helped.

Cheers,

bb.

Thks for reply, i'll combo update from apple site.Right?

The bios is still the latest gigabte one ,so how can I install that Chameleon boot loader though? Thks

Yeah.

Combo Update right from Apple website.

Just download it and run the file. You don't need to have Cartri BIOS to install the bootloader.

When I recommend Cartri BIOS I want to tell you that you'll have a more compatible system using his bios because it is all moded to need no extra kext in /Extra/Extensions than the fakesmc.kext.

That means: less pain. ;)

bb.

THks ,but how do I install bootloader after apple is installed? Thks

Can you boot into your OSX partition?

If yes, you have the bootloader into a boot disc for OSX or installed correctly to your system.

If not do the following:

> Grab a boot disc for OSX (you can download one here - bootloader);

> Burn it into a CD disk;

> Place it into drive and choose CDROM as the first boot (maybe F11 or F12 allow you to do that. Depends on your mobo);

> When boot disk is up and running you may be able to see the OS X partition, choose it and start system;

>Once you're in OS X, go here and download bootloader file and run it in OSX;

> Run bootloader file to install it into system;

> Choose the partition where you installed OS X and wait for the installation to finish.

> Once is finished, reboot your system and no need for the boot disc again. It will boot directly from your partition.

THks for reply I can boot into osx partition, this is how it boots ,,machine boots up shows osx countdown of 10secs,and then asks idf I need options to hit any key ,hitting any key gives me options for my 2 other partitions which are both windows, and that takes me to win7 if I need to get in there, everything actually runs smooth ,just a few more options to go through.Thks

If you can boot into your OSX partition, you already have bootloader.

Thks I just thought of using the windows boot and then going with neowin's bootloader, .I can't see osx in windows though. No big deal I guess ,I'll keep it as is ? Thks

OK then combo update ,restarted ,all good ,then did other updates all good also.

Just 2-3 things maybe someone can help out with ,my dvd ide drive is not being seen when dvd is in drive, any fixes?

I tried to play a burnt dvd with movies on it from windows in the mac and it's a no go ,not even with vlc player.

How do I fix time change when I get back into windows? Thks

Hi mate.

Nice to know you're fine after the update. :P

I don't remember for sure, but when I used to have Windows, if system could see OSX partitions in Windows Explorer, but I believe it wasn't able to do it.

About IDE DVD, can you use the drive normally or you can't even use it? If you can't just see the movie, can be something related to encode/decode options. But, in the other hand, if you can't even see the disk in OSX system, you may need to use some extra kext related to JMicron so IDE drives can work fine in OS X.

In the case of time fix between "Windblows" and OS X, you can look for verdant's profile in IM that he have a great explanation why this happens and how to fix it.

Hope I have helped.

Any way to minimize the clutched audio using 10.6.4 and AppleHDA from Cartri (i'm on his macbios 0.8), With VoodooHDA had cluttered audio every 10 seconds or so, each sound was bad.. with AppleHDA is kinda better, but still some youtube etc go glitchy

Thks for reply , I'll check out verdants profile ,as for the ide drive osx sees it ,but that is it I tried movie dvd's an app dvd it just doesn't read the contents on dvd. I've looked all over the past 2 days ,what kext would I need to add?

Got my sound blaster audigy 4 working ,fantastic.

Hi Bloody.

I believe your sound is ALC888 or ALC889.

Both of them can be downloaded at cartri.net and if you check his posts in cartri.net, you will find that using cartri BIOS you just need only AppleHDA.kext to make sound work perfectly.

Mine here is an ALC888 + AppleHDA.kext and works great. Sound is awfull because of my speakers. LOL !!!

Well, if drive is not reading contents of the disk, can be a record problem.

It doesn't read anything from any disk or just an specific disk?

I told you would find posts related to Audigy stuff. ;)

I had one Audigy once and sound was crystal clear. Veeeery nice.

Hi my sound on board is disconnected so i am using my audigy 4 pro ,on both windows and osx ,I found drivers from kxproject to make my soundblaster work. Thks

I am thinking the ide dvd drive is missing a kext or two ,because all dvd's can be read in windows.

I also found that small games in osx run verrry sloooow ,I think the nvidia 7300gt card is not set up right, how can I check that? Thks

In System Profiler you can find info on your system.

Maybe your QI/CE is not enabled, so you won't have many features of your card.

To find out if your QI/CE is enable you can check in two ways:

1st - Click the Apple Icon > About This Mac > More Info and then go to Graphics/Display and check for info.

2nd - Download OSX86 Tools and run it. In the top of the app window, click the button Enable/Disable Quartz GL. If your QI/CE is already enabled, you will know 'cause app will tell you.

About IDE DVD drive not reading is very strange.

If were a missing kext problem, you won't be able to use the drive in OSX. I'm not so sure but a kext won't solve your problems.

Man you fast! ;)

Look I'm on the same train, cartri bios 0.8 with his applehda only and it works, but I still get cluched sounds and audio breaking for example when I stream a movie (strange thing, happens on g.chrome but not using safari?? Maybe flash draws more power or something??)

Didn't have problems on 10.6.2 for 8 months, now these appear only on 10.6.4 that I'm now, oh and also heard 'em after sleep/wake when I was at 10.6.2 with mac bios 0.7m.. Same thing but now from boot..

P.s. The hw I'm using

GA-EP45-UD3LR

Kingston hyper x 4gb ram @1033 (damn bought 'em by mistake, needed 1333, anyways)

nVidia GTS 250 1GB ram, quite nice

1tb sanding disk for space and 64gb Kingston the fast model ssd for boot/os/needed apps.

On board sound

Everything works, even front USB, speaker jacks, sleep/wake, etc..

So.. Ay ideas?

I've recently installed an AverTv digital tv decoder receiver, is that maybe a problem cause what I've seen it loads it's own kext!

Thks for reply , I'll check that osx86 tools app ,that might be it. As for the ide drive ,this is not the drive I uded to install snow leopard I borrowed a friends sata dvd drive to install snow but connected my ide drive back. Snow sees it but that is it, there has to be a fix somewhere so I can at least read dvd's on osx snow?

Thks again.

Hi mate.

That's very strange.

Point me the link from where are you trying to stream video that I'll try to stream it here (my ADSL, due to prices here in Brazil, it's very slow) using both Safari and Chrome to see if happens something like you said.

I don't have sound problems like yours since Leopard, when I first start to love OS X.

Try upgrading to 10.6.5 to see what happens.

I don't know if the Digital TV decoder receiver can cause problems in your system. If it have specific kexts for it, may be possible.

bb.
