backinmac
anyone know of something like Stellarola that supports and Radeon 5850? I'm fairly sure that any Radeon 5 series cards are NOT supported. Reason being, there are not any real Macs using these cards so OSX support is not possible. Until another refresh of the iMacs or Mac Pros that may or may not use these cards, there is no support. Sorry dude. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/66/#findComment-1469836 Share on other sites

960brick
I would like to know what you did too, that made Netflix to work. To make mine working too Georgiles, I think I know whats causing the Netflix DRM problem, In BIOS, when I turn off onboard LAN 1 or 2 or both?? netflix doesn't work. can you confirm please ? Georgiles
@960brick Congrats You solved my problem. It was Green LAN: ENABLED in BIOS on my side that made Netflix not to work. Even though I had Both LAN Network Interfaces ENABLED, because there was no cable connected, the GreenLAN would disable them anyway. Netflix require the computer to have the wired network set on en0 regardless if you get internet or not thru it or even if a cable is connected to it or not. It is definitely a programming error on Netflix's side or Microsoft's Silverlight maybe. They set the syntax where the application checks if the device is running on, has a WIRED network adapter, instead of checking if internet connection is available. Just a simple PING with the server could do it. Just my thoughts. Thank you again 960brick for thinking about it. :) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/66/#findComment-1470141 Share on other sites

I think with a little tweaking, the Lifehacker build + Carti bios would be close to perfection It's close to perfect. Started with LifeHacker exact with exception of 9800GT. I was getting panics and reboots randomly, but nothing I wasn't prepared to put up with...(and no...it wasn't my RAM) Then came cartri... BIOS flash was easy as long as you follow PDF exactly... Lost my graphics support like many others... got it working again thanks to Georgiles panics are gone. Sound wasn't working for a sec because I had mistakenly installed, or incorrectly installed AppleHDA.kext from cartri's DL page, but I reinstalled from the disc and now I have: cartri+graphics+sound and no problems thank you everybody... jboehm
Just installed VoodooPowerMini.kext on my ud3p to /S/L/E using KextUtility.v2.3.2 ... ahhh my fans slowed as soon as it installed and temp dropped 15degs. I believe this just enabled SpeedStep (EIST). I don't think CStates are enabled. That would require DSDT customization. I should also note that I'm not using Extensions.mkext. I created a Extension folder in /Extra/Extensions. All the standard Stell kext are there except I removed Disabler.kext which disables power savings. Its required if your using the standard package and don't have VPM.kext. I also choose to use AsereBLN Booter - Based on Chameleon RC4 instead of the installer bootloader. Just installed it on top. Joatmon
For Gigabyte EP45-UD3P board with nVidia GTX 9800+ card, this is the easy method I used. 1. Updated motherboard with Cartri's bios 0.7m version 2. Used lifehacker method to install Snow Leopard (but did not apply the last two tweaks) 3. http://knol.google.com/k/george-anton/hack...ydxcf32jt0v6/9# Instead of doing everything manually, I deleted the Extras folder, and used this downloaded Extras folder from a fellow hackintosher: (thank you Georgiles) http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1468231 4. Installed Chameleon 2 RC4 from Cartri's download list Of course, these links are posted here already. :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/66/#findComment-1471493 Share on other sites

I'll try upgrading to 1.2.7 this evening. You saying you CPU temp and fan speed did not change after installing it to /S/L/E ? What is your idle core temp? Before mine was 48-50deg. After mine is 34--36deg. If you didn't notice any difference you probably have a kext installed that is blocking power management. Are you using the original Extension.mkext or the Disabler.kext from the original package? One final possibility is that the custom bios I see in you sig might make VPM unnecessary. But I've read one place that that custom BIOS doesn't support speedstep yet ... not sure. Georgiles
No overclocking here. I know I put the termal paste in a too thick layer like an idiot, and also I'm using a different processor than you do. Mine is an older Q6600. Your CPU is Rocking! Would you mind running Geekbench (64-bit) here: http://cl.ly/16IV as we have similar build except the CPU? I'm courious if I should really think about CPU upgrade as yet. Here is my score: http://cl.ly/19Ia --- I might have a friend pick me one of these at Microcenter. Really good deal $180. Georgiles
Awesome performance! I'll wait a bit to upgrade though. Yeah. This Microcenter. I discovered them recently. I have no clue why is not loading from Extra/Extensions. Now that I'm looking in About This Mac --> More Info --> System Profiler --> Extensions, I see that JMicronATA is loading from "Location: /System/Library/Extensions/JMicronATA.kext" too. Boarderbiker
Well, I've managed to get Snow Leopard installed and running on my system. I'm using an EP45 UD3P Rev.1.6, Cartri bios, 9550 CPU, XFX 9800 GT. I flashed the bios, installed the OS, and sound and graphics worked right out of the box. I even got the funky little welcome video when I booted from my previous DSDT installation. After I tried the bootloader from Cartri's site I lost my accelerated graphics. After a bunch of trial and error, and a larger amount of reading I tried Stellarola V3 which still didn't give me back my graphics. A bunch more reading gave me Georgiles extra folder which seems to have done the trick graphics-wise. I'm not exactly sure why since the only part of his extra folder that I'm using is the JMicron kext, which I can't see as having anything to do with my graphics issue. Having said that the results speak for themselves. I have two remaining issues. First is that automatic sleep doesn't seem to work. Second, my internal drive icons are unlike any I've seen in my 18 months of hackintoshing. The icon I currently have for all my internal drives resembles very closely the orange USB drive icon, but without the USB logo. The icon issue is cosmetic only and can be dealt with by changing the associated icons, but I would prefer to solve the problem by eliminating the cause. The sleep problem can also be resolved with the use of RIP, but since I've been unable to find anything to indicate that it's something to do with the bios, I'm forced to conclude that it's caused by something I've done wrong, or not done at all. I'd really like to be as vanilla as possible, but the DSDT method works exactly the same with the exception of the drive icons which appear as the standard OSX internal drive icons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. MacWannaBe
Not sure what ya all are doing wrong but I just did a fresh install Cartri bios + Lifehacker prepared USB stick. Reformatted the drive installed SL and used the Chameleon 2 RC4 installer, added the needed 2 kext's and 2 plist's and a Chameleon Theme. Rebooted and up and running 100% easy as pie. I'm trying to work my way to what you guys have done. I figured, I'd first upgrade the Chameleon 2 RC4 and then wait for the next version of Catri's BIOS. So I used the RC4 installer selecting my boot drive. I did nothing else and rebooted. After this my Hack would not go beyond the apple screen with the spinning gear. I booted with the V3 thumb drive and noticed that I now had Extensions.mkext as well as a new Extensions folder inside Extra with all my V3 extensions extracted as individual kexts. After this I deleted my Extra folder and ran the Stell's V3 and rebooted. Everything is fine again. Question: what is the exact order of steps to upgrade to RC4? Just want to make sure I do this correctly. cartri
So i came late here didnt I? Its one of my baby's boards i guess i should be welcome? For someone who were always in the shadow i just became subject in so many places... Forgive me if i'm picking the topic by its end, i just would like to point 2 things, sorry for my lack of vocabulary on this: I made my own package, much better than life hackers. I'm currently working on the documentation.No. I prefer to use my own DSDT (clean, 500 lines of code). Zoliky, i sent you a PM. When DSDT became something famous in osx86 daily life, some people did not understood right well its whole in a system. You can have a mac edition bios and make a dsdt over it for instance. But when in bios, all the tables have something more important to do: memory allocation. That will or not make your devices recognized, working etc. The idea of a "clean" DSDT is not compatible of the idea of bios moding. This was the huge mistake of my 0.3 versions, and still have sequels on 0.7h G1 bioses (other groups are ok). For instance this cleanness idea that is so nice when you are REloading a DSDT can make big problems (with any table) when booting. And of course with other oses. Thats why in my bios you will find many redundancies over definitions that are not used at all (PIC for instance). While messing in bios, we have to look over a hardware point of view, not software. We are addressing the chips of our motherboards, lacking some of them may leave your pc still initialized but lacking some anchors to other pieces of the main module and its extensions that need them. the OS is not the only one reading the ACPI Tables, the other modules also do to work well. In the case of bios initialization, more info is best, thats why i moved the acpi table to the end. Cleaning the code will not make you pc boot faster, anything after the bip has the ACPI already loaded, so unless you are wanting your pc to bip-post faster, thats no use on doing clean code over bios, Award made maaaaaaany lapses on this. We can better talk later, i dont want to flood this thread with subjective info @ zoliky & @ thepretender I don't see Cartri's bios as competition to DSDT. It is more like an addition. I would like to see zoliky working with cartri where in a sense there will be options. It would be stupid to have a zoliki's package that would give me errors if I have cartri's bios. They should be compatibile and as simple as adding or deleting DSDT.aml and Extensions.mkext. Thats right. The idea of the bios is you not NEEDING dsdt, but it doesnt forbids you of having replacements for it in linux or Mac (or even windows, its possible to do on windows too). Keeping compatibility is my aim too, im not trying to replace a thing, only making the basics uneeded, so people can better tune their systems later, but dont need to have it already tunned before starting, gotcha? Im up for you guys, i hope im welcome Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/66/#findComment-1472826 Share on other sites
OmnipotentIdiot
ok, i ordered the exact same MB and Video card from the lifehacker build, and I already have the RAM,optical drives, and hard drive from a previous build, but I want to throw in an evga geforce gt210 pci card I have in the second pci x16 slot so I can run 3 monitors. Should I build the system first, then add in the second card,or throw it all together and then build it from scratch or will Snow Leopard even allow this?
