Leppy,... I ever tell you I love you? :happymac:
uh... personal space!

Thanks, I hope it's helpful. Now I am curious if he's found his software and if the devices work. It looks like those cards are from the old Moto/OS 9 days, and who knows if there is support for current Mac stuff - Intel/OS X.6.x. It would not be the first time support was dropped for legacy hardware - 3rd party or otherwise.

Currently running 100% stable w/ FD (I think) it's definitely not FB. EP45 Rev 1.6 :)
Odd, and mine was anything but stable until I backed off to FB. Are you using the DSDT included with the latest Lifehacker installer? I might update the BIOS and roll my own DSDT just for kicks. The later bios dramatically reduced all the farting stuff the bios does before an OS actually starts to load.

Hey, thanks for your response. Yes, I did install the software from the manufacturers site. Once installed, the software stated that no cards are found. On my power Mac g5 dual 2.0, which had pci slots, they were operating with no problem (10.5.8). And the cards are compatible with 10.6.2. However, is there a kext file I need in order to make them functional? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could show me.

It should not have to be a kext. Kexts are sort of the Mac "driver".

That should be the software's job. As you said it worked in .5.8, and you used the software then it installed it right?

If you've put that software in, then I believe it is the DSDT Stella handcrafted. (Not that it's faulty)

It is designed, designating the placement of cards even. (Video, LAN)

The DSDT may need altered to let you take advantage of it, but that is far beyond me.

I'm sure Stella could help, maybe there are others here.

(The DSDT threads in the forum may help, but make sure you can discern what Stell has in there as to not muck it up!)

I have most of the pieces, and the CPU, flash stick, motherboard, power supply, and hard drive should arrive today! Tonight begins my hackintosh journey :D

Thanks for all of the info that you guys have put out there for OSX86 n00bs like me :)

Yeah, I'm just using Stell's V3 installer. Only thing I edited was the boot logo from the "Obey" to the generic Apple one.

Alrighty guys... my system is built and SL 10.6 is vanilla installed, however two issues have come up:

1) during the install, my mouse (tested 6 different models from Apple, Logitech, Dell, and Microsoft) keeps snapping back to the top left corner, so I had to use the tab key to navigate the interface... annoying, but a successful install

2) The boot loader will not recognize any key input during the "press any key to enter startup options" screen, and thus, I cannot get into SL. :( (tried a recent-model Apple USB keyboard, a logitech USB keyboard, and a microsoft USB keyboard... no luck on any of 'em)

My bios is v1.20, and all parts are identical to the LifeHacker guide except my RAM and hard drive... I'm using the UD3P v3 installer + USB disk image of SL. Any input (sorry, bad pun) would be appreciated! :)

EDIT: I am a dislexic idiot, and I screwed up my BIOS settings for USB Keyboard and Mouse Support. When in doubt, double check yourself! :) I'm in SL on my Hackintosh RIGHT NOW typing this EDIT! The Hackintosh lives... :D Now for v10.6.2 update. *fingers crossed*

Speaking of...I did the same. I know this is a bit trivial, maybe a bit vain, but is there any way to set the resolution of the boot screen to match my monitor so that it doesn't look stretched?

edit: nevermind...figured it out. Modified the theme.plist in the extra folder so that the screen settings matched my screen size. Gotta say, looks much much better with the hi res (or proper res?) icons. Now I feel like I have a real mac...

Well, I'm running 10.6.2 now, with no issues at all! :(

So far, I've tested out Photoshop Lightroom 2.6, Final Cut Studio 2 apps, Avid Media Composer 4, Toast Titanium, Photoshop CS4 extended, and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, and all work the same as they do on my Macbook Pro!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Adam Pash & Stella, and to the community for the great info! :)

ps, aren't Stell and Adam awesome? Kudos!

Updated again. Keep it coming.

FAQ:

Q I can boot off my thumb-drive, but not my hard-drive.

A You ran the installer on your thumb-drive, thats why it boots. After you install snow leopard on your hard drive, you need to run the installer on it too. That should make it bootable.

Q: Can I use another Video Card with this build?

Short Answer: No. Not with this method.

Longer Answer: You can do anything you put your mind to. Please start another thread about how to get support for different video cards in a hackintosh.

Q: How do I make the on-board Ethernet work (bonjour)?

A: The hardware card provided in the list will work out of the box. If you really want to try with the onboard: install the patch made by weaksauce. To find it, google this: finally-64-bit-r1000-kext-for-snow-released

It may show up as 100baseT, but you can manually set it to 1000 in ethernet preferences.

This should make the onboard nic's work!

Q: What bluetooth model will work flawlessy?

A:

Q: How to install windows xp or win7 on a seperate drive?

A:

1. disconnect your sl drive

2. Set your new drive as boot priority.

3. Install windows xp sp3 (sp2 or below doesn't have AHCI support) or win7

4. Shut down and reconnect SL drive.

5. Set SL as boot priority.

6. Select your operating system via the chameleon loader.

Q: I'm having trouble waking from sleep. Are there any known issues about sleep mode?

A: Waking from sleep is problematic. It is best to disable sleep mode.

Q: I installed this other piece of hardware, but it doesn't work and doesn't show up in profiler.

A: Google it, or start a new thread about that hardware in a hackintosh. Please don't clutter this thread up any more than it already is.

Things to be aware of:

1. The bios version should be FB. Newer bios will cause problems. Downgrade if necessary.

2. Some reports of fried motherboards/power supplies when connecting mac towers in target mode. Doesn't seem to happen with 4-pin firewire cables. Inconclusive evidence, so beware.

Yea, me too.

Okay guys I think I'm closer to solving this dsp card/pci problem. I read from another page on this incredible forum about another guy who got his card to work by resetting the card's driver through the driver utility located in the app folder. I tried and this is the message I got

Notice at the bottom it says unsupported utility and when I click load uad-1 driver, the kext message shows up. I did make sure this is the current driver for my system. I am going to try and re-install the software from scratch or see if there is an updated version that I missed. And again, that you all for your responses. I am determined to get this to work.

The kext might have not loaded if there is an architecture mismatch. Unless, you set up your hack to be in 32-bit kernel mode, it's running 64-bit kernel. To load that kext it would have to be 64-bit. Check for that. You might want to boot with 32bit kernel mode and try your test again.

So I got this:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.86GHz

GeForce 8800 GT 512MB

Working perfectly with this guide. But I also dual boot into windows 7 to play games. I was hoping to purchase a nice new video card for the Windows side. Like a nicer ATI or a nicer Geforce. Now I was wondering if I could plug this card into the bottom PCI express slot and it wont freak out my Hackintosh install? I dont want to use it for the hackintosh side. Just only when I boot into windows. Has anyone tried this with this setup?

How much nicer than a 9800GTX? That should handle any game you can throw at it and work with both SL and WIN7. Then you'll be in full on cookie mode - no problem.

Excellent point. I forget sometimes that we're in this big 32 to 64 bit transition, and almost every desktop OS is sort of schizophrenic at this point.

Ok, so describe how and I'll add it.
Easy.

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

You used an 8800GT instead of the 9800GTX+?

You MIGHT get away with putting the new one in the lower slot.

I've heard others put the card in that slot and it didn't work because the DSDT

does not designate that slot as being used by the vid card.

Try booting up with the current one in that slot.

If it ignores it you might have a shot. Then try borrowing a friend's card and booting with both in.

Remember, it's ALL experimental.
