Sidewinder33
Well good and bad, I redid my drive in an external enclosure installer the boot loader installed SL ran the kext installer and stopped at the last step as that needs to be done on the final system. I added the gfx card to the boot list and still no video signal I hear the Hdd still working but no video. Just to clarify I can boot from the Hdd to the bootloader I was able to enter the single user verbose and rebuild the cache (for SL) rebooted it started its verbose boot scrolling then the signal cuts out. Budge
Hi CruiSar, I finally got the bootcd figured out (F5) and SL is installed. I have only the kexts you provided installed in the the same places as you. But my LAN and Audio are not working. Also, my system only boots into 32 bit mode. So, am I supposed to use your smbios file that you provided? Also, was I supposed to follow all of DD's post installation instructions like turning off Spotlight and turning on single user mode? And do I need to repair permissions manually or does DD's script do that automatically? Thanks. Rob7R
Quickest easiest way to get Snow leopard on - GigaByte EX58 UD5 I am new here guys... My goal is install OS X Snow Leopard on my system. Can someone with similar specs advise me the quickest and easiest way to install on my system. I have read DD's guide and numerous others but I am getting a little confused from the directions since there are so many different ways to do it / many guides. I just want to know from others experience the best / easiest route to go so I know which method to pick. Any suggestions? I want to add that I really appreciate your guide Digital Dreamer.... You make it happen for us. Thanks in advance. quick edit: I also would like to do whatever is needed so I am able to use the apple software update if possible. The only important part of your specs as far as installation goes is the graphics card which may sometimes vary in support. Just follow the instructions on the front page using DD's script and give it a go. It starts making alot more sense when you try it for yourself. So I am actually going to use an existing MAC (my friends) and plug in my WD 1TB drive to it and install snow to that drive while in MAC and also install the script to it and then I can boot to it atleast and start finessing? Correct? Only reason I ask is the other guides i have followed talk about restoring the retail image to USB flash drive and patching the flash drive and then booting to that and then installing snow to my WD 1TB using the flash drive... Is this method not the best option or DD's method I should follow to the T? Thanks again. I am actually an IT Engineer so this shouldnt be hard but I have never messed with any of this OS86 stuff and want to do it the right way... Thanks again. Sidewinder33
Alright guys I have another question: I'm trying the preboot cd method now, I formatted my drive to a blank guid drive. I put that in my comp booted up the preboot cd and the got the OSX DVD in. It boots and loads, then the video signal goes out. I tried to modify the preboot cd by adding a efi string to it but an error occurs and says the string is corrupted and it can't write the hex to an xml. So my question is how do I use the preboot cd to try and install the OS and all the goodies if I can't even see to install osx while its in my comp? Any ideas? Have I missed something or done something wrong. Essentially I'm asking if someone else with the nvidia gtx 285 knows the process they went through to get the video to work or if its just my video card altogether thats not gonna play nice. If thats the case can someone point me in the direction of how to get the correct info from my card so I can try and get it to play nice. Any help is greatly appreciated. As an edit: I have an iMac that I can plug my Hd into via firewire enclosure and install on, which route should I go? try it straight from preboot cd (where my video signal always fails) or install it via the iMac (just the os or add the kext and bootloader and such) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/185097-guide-scripted-yosemitemavericks-install-on-gigabyte-mobos/page/71/#findComment-1384048 Share on other sites

No you are not supposed to download the smbios file, it's the same one DD's script inserts into your extra folder. If you installed from another system running SL then no you dont need to follow all of DD's post install instructions but if installing from Leopard then yes you do. THe VoodooHDA kext attached is for full surround sound so if you do not use this feature, just stick to the 2 kexts in the 10.6/Sound folder. Weird that sound and LAN isnt working. When you go into system preferences and network, do you have your lan ports idnetified? For sound to work, you must remove HDEnabler from S/L/E if is present. DD's script, updates bootcahces and repairs permissions but I like doing certain things like that myself. To boot in 64 bit mode, you need to remove this line from the com.pple.boot.plist located in the Extra folder. <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>-v -x32 arch=i386</string> Regards Charles Alright guys I have another question:I'm trying the preboot cd method now, I formatted my drive to a blank guid drive. Just go back to page 1 of this thread and follow the instructions. DD's script is full proof and does what it was scripted to do. I have the GTX 285 as well and I was able to install from a BootCD. The link is in a post I made earlier of my working SL 32/64 bit install. You can download it and try if it will work for you. Link is in my signature. The GTX 285 will also work when GraphicsEnabler is used in the bootPlist but it only works for me when I use pcEfi as bootloader. I reckon that would work with a bit of manual manipulation. I installed by hand and this is effectively what I did but I used a Leopard partition on a hack rather than a MAC, having done that it is even easier to do from a SL partition. AFAIK, should just be a case of installing SL, making it bootable then installing the chameleon bootloader then editing a couple of config files. I've done this several times without issue. I don't think you actually need any images, you can install directly via the SL DVD (that's what I do). Then you will need to move the drive to a pc as chameleon isn't recommended for real mac's why don't you try it, it will only cost you an hour of your time and at worst will be a learning experience oh, and don't use migration assistant ... knightprozac
LocusOfControl has pretty much answered your question. I just wanted to add that that I made my 10.5.8 hack install the same way from a G5 then swapping the HD out of that and into my hackintosh. Should work absolutely fine. Go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and copy the com.apple.boot.plist to the desktop and rename it by adding original to it so you know its the unedited version. Now copy the boot plist from your /Extra folder and replace the one in L/P/SC. I am assuming the one you have in your Extra folder has the efi string present. I am sorry but I dont know what is causing the failure of the usb keyboard, cross check your bios settings or try another kb if you have any lying around Charles Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/185097-guide-scripted-yosemitemavericks-install-on-gigabyte-mobos/page/71/#findComment-1384190 Share on other sites

LocusOfControl
Any new drivers to support jumbo frame of realtek lan? D You need to ensure that your other routers etc support jumbo's or else you will have problems I believe the Apple Airport routers don't support jumbo frames, what router are you using? If you use a native apple supported NIC then you can just jumbo frames via the advance ethernet features Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/185097-guide-scripted-yosemitemavericks-install-on-gigabyte-mobos/page/71/#findComment-1384218 Share on other sites

snood
How were you setting this and testing it? I decided to treat myself and bought http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB977G/A...mco=MTA4NzI5Mjk I tried sudo networksetup -setMTU en0 9000 Seems to work on the apple card in 10.6.2 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 9000 I did read http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21333 and it says Warnings: 1. All devices on a local network must be configured to use Jumbo Frames, or loss of connectivity could occur on that network. I'm connecting to an apple timecapsule via ethernet but I didn't find the performance as good as with mtu1500 (2x 1GB full duplex) Didn't work, I am finding transferring files to my NAS to be extremely slow. I tried using a gigabit switch with only my desktop and NAS and still slow. main:~$ sudo networksetup -setMTU en0 9000 Password: Error - 9000 is not in the valid MTU range of 72-1500 ** Error: The parameters were not valid. Rick Arabian
Hey guys, I using DD's wonderful script for my SL install when it first came out and have since updated to 10.6.1 but haven't yet jumped to 10.6.2. For the most part everything works except sleep for me. I have a GA-EX58-UD4P with an ATI 4980 video card. My question is how do I update as this script changes and keep current with what's working? Based on what I read in the first post a lot of good changes have been added but short of installing over again I haven't seen anything that suggests how to stay up to date with the PC-EFIs, FakeSMC's, etc. Thanks for reading... --Rick Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/185097-guide-scripted-yosemitemavericks-install-on-gigabyte-mobos/page/71/#findComment-1384346 Share on other sites
