badg2k
I read on Tuaw.com that the new macbooks can right click with two fingers, and someone pointed out that the new mouse tracks on intel macs were significicantly wider also. Well if you play around with your mbp, i noticed that there seems to be two buttons underneath the single wide button on both the left and right side. The middle of the bar seems to act as a fulcrum like in a seesaw. I wonder if in leapord they are going to unveil that this single mouse button is in fact two buttons which can be used in windows. Oh and I called applecare yesterday. Worst hour of my life, but one thing seems to be clear, they recognize the heat and "whirry" sound as not within spec. They said it was due to the logic board. Well I guess the rumors were true about the logic board revisions. I'm going to be DHL'ing mine mbp out later today. Colonel
You saw that too? Did you also see the feature that can make your iSight shoot laser beams? It was really cool. The Apple guy brought out a big picture of Bill Gates and let me try out the laser's power on it. I almost burned the whole Apple store down. Whoops! Swad
I'm taking it that colonel's post doesn't have a shred of truth... is it true about the rocking mouse button badg2k? Mofo-X
I can confirm that the mouse buttons does indeed have two sensors on the right and left and that it does rock, however I have found no refference anywhere as to the ability to set the right side as a context menu button. mx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/#findComment-114708 Share on other sites
badg2k
It definitely rocks, but like {censored}-x says there is no reference anywhere about the ability to assign each side to a different function Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/#findComment-114762 Share on other sites

John the Geek
People on the Apple discussions have cited that the new MacBook and the 17" MacBook Pro can enable a checkbox in the Trackpad Preferences to enable "using two fingers on the trackpad while clicking to simulate a right-click." I want to get my hands on that Preference Pane to see if it works on my 15" MacBook Pro. INFNITE
personally, i feel ctrl-click is easier to do than having two fingers on the touchpad-click Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/#findComment-115285 Share on other sites
Mofo-X
Hahah I hope its true on the MB and 17"MBP, if so they have ripped off every feature from my old favorite iScroll mx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/#findComment-116092 Share on other sites
d1g1ta7
It works on my 17" MBP. However, it seems that, even though the box is checked, it "forgets" to work after reboots. However, unselecting and then re-selecting it enables it. Swad
Can anyone get us a picture of the two sensors? Man, I am really fascinated by this. I bet that there's some way to teach the computer to recognize one side as one and one as the other. Unless they're identical. Who knows guys, we might be able to hack together native right button support! BRP
It works on my 17" MBP. However, it seems that, even though the box is checked, it "forgets" to work after reboots. However, unselecting and then re-selecting it enables it. My MacBook seems to preserve it through reboots, so maybe something weird is messing with it.... When I click the mouse, only one thing makes an audible click (more like "dup". Everything about this notebook makes the sound "dup" to me). And that click is what clicks the mouse. I'm not so sure about having two sides, at least from what I can tell without opening this puppy up. John the Geek
Here's my Keyboard preference pane. Hopefully some of those with 15" MBPs can use it. No such luck. Drag and Drop: Cannot use this Pref Pane I tried modifying the package file, which eventually worked, but while the option to check the secondary button option was displayed, it still ignored it. (So it didn't work.) We need more than the Pref Pane I think... Like the mouse kext as well. Maybe I'll look around here at work and see if someone has one of these I can play with for a while. Traditionally the Pref Pane sets a plist flag that the Mouse kext looks for at login to use a feature or not. So I think there's more to the puzzle. I'm content with waiting for an OS update, but I'll feel better knowing wether it works or not. I'm impatient. =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17685-double-clicking-on-a-mbp/#findComment-117273 Share on other sites

-TiLT-
What if those two sensors are soldered up in MBP 15"? I mean, I do not want to reduce your euphoria, but maybe this is a hardware barrier. John the Geek
Here you go S-U-C-C-E-S-S-!!!!!! =) What's this below me? Huh? I never saw a package-based installer for all these files, with an included package to restore the files that were already there should a fruit-based company ever require them for a future software update perhaps. But it sure would be convenient if I did find such an installer package. Oh, look there near the bottom of my post... What if those two sensors are soldered up in MBP 15"? I mean, I do not want to reduce your euphoria, but maybe this is a hardware barrier. We're talking about two different forms of right-click. There is rumor that there are two different buttons under that big trackpad button. This is not proven that those buttons are two different buttons or two outlets for the same button. However, new Macs are shipping with a driver to enable a right click by placing two fingers on the trackpad and clicking normally. That's what d1g1ta7 and I are discussing. EDIT: Attachment modified... scroll down to find the new one.
