Stadsport
So everything on my laptop is working great except audio. The ironic part is that it worked in 10.4.3 and 10.4.1 (Although the sound wasnt the best, it worked). I tried downloading macgirl's AppleAC97Audio.kext file. Copied to the right location, but when I try to kextload, I get this error. kextload: extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext is not authentic (check ownership and permissions)kextload: extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext is not authentic (check ownership and permissions) I really have no idea what to do. I'm doing it as root, and I've checked permissions of the files. If anyone has had this problem, do tell what you did. I think if someone could post the same file from 10.4.3, that'd be just as helpful. Thanks. First thing: No good. Ran Disk Utility to repair permissions, it did it, and didn't even mention said kext. Stadsport
Tried the kexts from 10.4.3. I deleted the one in System/Library/Extensions, then copied the old one in. I restarted, and it didn't change a thing. Just for clarification, these are the errors I get when I try to kextload (I also get them on startup). I have the Ferrari 3200 and this works great, I even have stereo sound with a patched AppleAC97Audio kext (Realtek Chipset). Btw, do you also have a broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit lan card in the laptop (BCM5788) which you could get to work ? Infact I noticed that the second dialog box says "AppleAC97AudioVia.kext" or something, while it's AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext that I've been trying to kextload. Still, I'm not able to do it. How did you do it on yours, exactly? Also I haven't fiddled with it, but I do have the same Ethernet card, and it currently doesn't detect. Just like it says, did you repair permissions? If not, use Disk Utility to do so. Yeah, I tried this. It repaired some things, but none of them relating to this. I also tried after and it didn't make a lick of difference. I replaced the complete AppleAC97Audio kext with a patched one, restored the permissions, recreated the kextcache and rebooted. I didn't load anything, it went all by itself. I now have perfect stereo sound from both speakers. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16507-appleac97audiokext/#findComment-106393 Share on other sites

Suser
I'm running Myz 10.4.4 with 10.4.5 update. But as a test I installed your DVD version of 10.4.6 and once again all works fine, the ATI with Core Image and Quartz Extreme (not as AGP though ) and sound also works. Again only the left speaker, but fixed it by replacing the kext with the patched one. I was only blocked with the Samba issue which I now fixed with a patch and again, everything works, even my Wireless Broadcom card is working as an airport card. I can switch it on and off with the front button. Still struggling with the NetXtreme Gigabit lan. It should work but I still don't know how. I've seen a post on this forum of someone with the same laptop as me and got it to work but I think he needs a GPS to get to his PM box Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16507-appleac97audiokext/#findComment-106630 Share on other sites
Stadsport
Hmm, that's crazy indeed. It's especially weird since it's been giving me the kext errors since first boot. WiFi worked as an Airport natively for me, too, but I had to change en0 to en1 and integer 0 to integer 1 after restarting for some reason; that fixed it. As I said I've never even touched the BroadCom NetXtreme. The only time I've ever had to use it is when backing things up in Windows. It sounds like, aside from sound (no pun intended), my laptop is functioning the same as yours. My Radeon 9700's got CI and QU, identifies as PCI, etc. I don't really wanna reinstall as 1) It probably won't do me much good, and 2) I've already got a lot of installation and {censored} put into it. Also, could you tell me what your installation options were? You could define what patches to install, maybe you set yours different from me? Thanks again. It will continue to be messed with until I can listen to gigabytes of illegal music through iTunes. quixos
in terminal type... ----------------------------------------- sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions ----------------------------------------- reboot that will change all permissions to the right ones, yeah all the files, but it saves typing. Suser
Also, could you tell me what your installation options were? You could define what patches to install, maybe you set yours different from me? I will continue to hack the NetXtreme driver until I get it to work. Give me a couple of years For the 10.4.4 I did a custom install and installed every "We stole it" option available. I only removed irrelevant languages and printer drivers. For 10.4.6 I did the same but for the extra options, I only install the 10.4.6 updates and decrypt base system for AMD (nothing from Intel) as well as the SSE2 AMD support, the VIA chipset drivers and the Wireless/Radeon mobility drivers (for which I see no imporvement). That's about it. I had to patch the ISO first, for the famous b0 error and the waiting for Root device. Holy {censored}. I had tried some chowning before and all, but it did no good. I did this and it worked. Thanks! I will continue to hack the NetXtreme driver until I get it to work. You said after applying the patch, you got stereo sound. Understandably, I'm pretty wary to go tinkering with the sound settings now, but can you tell me how exactly you patched the kext? Like what file? Hell just what you typed in the Terminal should suffice. Thanks so much for your guys' help! Stadsport
Just a little update, I tried replacing the AppleAC97Audio.kext with the patched one. I then deleted the kext cache, restored permissions, and restarted. It didn't work, and returned to the same old error. I put the old one back, did the same thing (remove kext cache, restore permissions and restart) and it worked, but of course I'm still stuck with left-only sound. Owhh.. im having the same problem (sound only coming out from the left speaker), but unfortunately im using an Intel based sound device. ICH5 with the Realtek (or Avance Logic?) ALC 650. Cant your patched kext be somehow modified to solve the same problem im facing? btw, the vend id 8086, dev id 24d5 (or is it the other way around) LoL on a Abit Ic7 Max3 board. Thanks in advance!
