Finally got around to trying out that new VoodooHDA - awesome stuff. So nice having proper headphone support.

I've encountered what seems to be a similar problem as you were having with the static, OriginalPol. On my external monitor, connected with a HDMI->DVI cable, everything is fine until I open up iTunes or Quicktime, then I get the static you were talking about! Occasionally the desktop will blink on, then it'll go back to static (during HDCP handshaking, maybe)?

I'm guessing that iTunes/Quicktime do HDCP handshaking immediately upon startup and something goes wrong. VLC (which doesn't support HDCP AFAIK) plays videos fine. Anyone else experiencing this?

so i did the myhack method to get snow leopard and it was working alright the only issue i had was my sound on some boots would not work i had to use kext helper to fix it and it would work on the next boot. My problem now is that i cant do that anymore sound wont work period. Currently im reading up again to see if i can figure something out.

Hey guys, I've posted previously on this thread and after having much fun with my laptop I have decided to sell it on to the next deserving gamer, experimenter etc.

I'm selling my Gateway FX P-7805u on eBay and would greatly appreciate you guys taking a little look :-)

Thank you for your time,

Deano

Thanks, but we've already got one :D

Good luck with your sale.

Delete the AppleHDA kext from /System/Library/Extensions, then copy in the VoodooHDA version TheOriginalPol posted here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...377&st=260#

Run kext utility (or whatever your kext helper of choice is) and restart. I tend to boot -v (press the down arrow when you select your SnowLeopard partiiton in the bootloader) after installing any new kexts to see what's going on. VoodooHDA is extremely verbose during boot - you should see dozens of lines of text while it initializes.

VoodooHDA has been rock solid for me - no problems whatsoever.

I have both 10.5.8 and 10.6.3 working fully minus cam and wireless! If anyone is intrested on the how I would be glad to help. I have audio via voodoohda deleted applehda, video 100% 1920x1200 via nvenabler 64.kext googled, wireless via linksys ralink 2870 wusb100, used hazard distro. This is the catch for me I could not get the hazard distro to boot so I had to install from a carbon copy from my asus g72gx. Had to use my Iatkos bootloader believe its chamelon rc 2 don't quote me it's what ever is installed during Iatkos V7 default.

I did 2 partitions on my drive 10.5.8 is my primary and 10.6.3 is secondary did install with Iatkos V7 first and used its native bootloader. Something is up with the EFI loader that comes with Hazard's distro it didn't work for me but didn't try very hard gave up after about an hour and choose to use my current machine to make a 1:1 copy to my 10.6.3 partition and dsdt to fix issues with boot.

Not sure how you guys got a Snow distro to boot but I couldn't would hang each time but this method was very simple and works great.

Didn't install any ps2 kext just default did use voodoo battery kext and voodoomonitor both seem to function well. No sleep at all if you find a way to boot Hazard and decide to update remember to delete disabler.kext sleepenaber.kext these both will cause kernel panic.

Have found that having both Os's up helps if there is an issue because I can go to the other OS to delete the culprit and try again. Video was strange at first had to reboot several times for the kext to take but it did take and have full working QE/CI tested widgets ripple and chess works great. Also did a XBench 65.33 kinda low my Asus G72GX scored 106.85 so not sure whats up with that.

After got everything going used DSDT patcher to fix any remaining errors not even sure that dsdt works but gave it a shot.

Anyway that is my 10.6.3 fiasco fully software updateable so far as long as you remember to delete the above mentioned kext.

Keep plugging away guys would love to have web cam working I can live with usb wireless no big deal.

If anyone is interested the Asus G72GX works great with 10.6.3 and 10.5.8 also full working cam in both and wireless in Snow detected as airport extreme but not in 10.5 have tried everything I know but can't get it to work in leopard. But like the later usb wireless doesn't hurt my feelings.

Hi I've read this post to install osx in my laptop successfully. Most of my hardware is working but I can't get the time machine on my system to work...

I get the "Time Machine could not be configured. The built-in network interface could not be found" error.

Thank in advanced

Hey skym, thanks for the post.

Your problem is happening because you have no network devices working on your installation. I'm guessing you don't have a USB wifi stick that you use, and didn't install a new wireless adapter in your notebook?

For some reason you must have at least one configurable network device (LAN, Wifi, FireWire etc) in order for TM to work. Otherwise it will give you that error... so if you use a USB stick or something similar, plug that in and try again.

Otherwise, there are plenty of fixes for that problem across the forums. I've never had to deal with it personally, so I don't know much about it or where to find a good one. but I know a simple search on the forum for "TM fix" or "Time Machine Fix" will pull them up -- I'm pretty sure it's one of the most common TM errors out there for us.

Hello everyone! i'm new here but i've been reading thru this thread regularly, what i want to add to anyone who owns a 7805u is to update the bios to the latest version (i beleive its 9C.20) ive noticed significant improvements while doing the ##### + Retail SL 10.6 DVD; ive done 2 installs, one with the old 9c.11 bios version and this newer version and i have full native GFX support QE/CI is fully working, minor audio support (works but still no headphone/mic support) seems overall stable... still need to test it further...

by the way, if anyone is actually going to go and update the bios from gateway i can post the official bios update here (or you can google the error you get when you try to update the bios in Windows like i did) since the one that gateway has up is broken (missing some files)... anyway thats just my 2 cents... thanks for each and every post, and for everyone who has contributed to to this thread; much appreciated!!!!:(:)

Hey everyone... i just wanted to post out that vga and hdmi connection work... i had to do no configuring on kexts etc for those... but there is a weird problem... i can get it working 100% on my monitor but when i choose mirror displays and change the resolution to fit my monitor the picture no longer works from the laptop monitor and instead shows me a black screen but if i dont mirror display the picture never fits on my monitor (too wide).

Other than that everything i have works

firewire

vga

wifi stick

graphics

sound

mouse and keyboard

etc...

default wifi and lan still do not work ;) but oh well

** one more problem**

for me shutting down and restarting always takes long like really long and then it basically crashes from the nice picture to display text but in the end it shuts off / restarts any ideas how to fix this?

sleep works perfect.

Hey everyone! i just did a clean install (##### + SL DVD)with the new bios update(see last post) and i have native audio support. I have both internal speakers and headphones. the only thing that sucks is it doesn't auto detect and switch when you plug in headphones... it also gives me an SPDIF out and Digital out (havent tried those yet) it's also detecting an external mic/internal mic.

Hey dR, I'm definitely interested in updating my BIOS -- especially if it would improve general system stability. I've got a pretty solid system as it is, but when it has to work really hard, some larger applications will just freeze. This is especially painintheassish since I do a LOT of work with Adobe CS5.

So anyways, do you think that this BIOS update would mess up my aready up-and-running system, or would it maybe improve that as well?

It's hard to say i actually did a clean install before and after because my pre-bios-update install of osx got messed up so i decided to to a bios update and try again.... I dont think it would mess up your system as it is right now. Judging from what i've seen after flashing my bios is that its a little bit more faster and stable. but that could just be me idk... I think that if you have a decent enough system, then updating the bios wont help a whole lot. I know that the graphics card runs ridiculously hot on our laptops since its on the same copper heatsink as the cpu is... Sorry that i cant give you a straight answer, i just havent used it enough to actually see the bottlenecks...

...i actually did a clean install...

Alright, so I decided "what the hell, it's been a while since I started messing with my system 'til I broke it, and then did a fresh install". So I updated my BIOS (ver. 9C.23), did exactly that, and followed the #####+##### method (that's the one you used, right?).

Everything went smoothly, except for some reason, no matter how many times I reconfigure the ##### install, I ALWAYS get a kp when booting up without the ##### disc. However when I use the ##### disc, it must have some perfect configuration because it works seamlessly. What combination of kexts and mods did you use in the ##### installer to get it to work for you?

Yep i used ##### + ##### method... I think this guide worked for me (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=236522)

I noticed you updated your bios to 9C.23, i updated to 9C.20 so that may be the reason you're getting kp since it's a different bios version... sorry for not replying sooner. Keep us updated w/ your progress!

btw i believe Tonymacx86 posted a new version of #####, you may want to try it since it uses a new version of chameleon...

Hey OriginalPol,

Have you noticed better vanilla audio support w/ 9C.23 bios? i'm having a hard time trying to find a good audio solution, it seems to work with apple's drivers but it doesn't auto switch outputs when you plug in headphones... i'm just wondering if you get better support w/ 9C.23 bios...

Oh yeah, I actually got my system working quite well shortly after my post... It's been on the back of my mind to come back and say so here ;-)

I realized that the reason I was getting kp was because I had installed VoodooHDA without deleting AppleHDA first. That issue has never kp'ed on me before, so I was pretty dumbfounded. Since it was installed to /Sys/Lib/Extensions, deleting my /Extra folder and rerunning ##### made no difference for me. By the way, I totally recommend you use VoodooHDA for your audio solution... there is no easy way for us to get native audio on these machines, as I think we have a pretty obscure sound card. But the latest version of Voodoo does the trick nicely, and I am still trying to remember the trick I did the last time I reinstalled to get headphone plug detection enabled (but I'll let you know).

I will say however, that I have never had native audio on this computer before, with ANY bios version. That's why I think it's interesting that you do -- you may wanna check /Extensions/ just to be sure that VoodooHDA or something didn't get installed by default.

Anyways, in other news I revisited some DSDT patching, and below is attached what I dare say is the best .aml I've done yet! I started from scratch and rewrote all the patches on the last one, plus I FINALLY got the big Scope (_PR) speedstepping patch fixed, which not only enables me to boot in 64-bit, but also I have noticed a pretty nice improvement in system speed overall.

To use this, I'd recommend completely deleting your /Extra folder, and using ##### to install this DSDT with the "UserDSDT" option. Afterwards, remember to edit Boot.plist and remove the "arch=i386" argument if you wanna boot x86_64.

Thanks to MaLd0n for helping me with the last two compile errors.

NOTE: rename attached file to "DSDT.aml"

UPDATE: Added a few more patches to incorporate EHC1 & EHC2 (Webcam and Firewire), so they should work now too.

P.S. does ANYONE else have the problem where half the time you put your notebook to sleep, it instantly wakes back up again? It happens to me, and sometimes I have to make numerous attempts to properly sleep my computer.

Lol sorry to keep doing this (I'm sure you guys don't mind too much :) ) but here's ANOTHER revised DSDT. This time I removed a few arguments which was causing the problem I mentioned above, for my computer to instantly wake up after sleeping. Idk if anyone was having that problem, but the combination of the below DSDT and the modded IOUSBFamily.kext also below will fix it. Just replace your old IOUSB with the new one (don't forget to back it up first).

Personally I was overjoyed to fix that problem, as I've literally been having it for over a year.

EDIT: I also realized that these new patches enable the internal mic as well! Woooot!
