MickMcGeough
I can't help with ##### but the myHack method should work fine as long as you follow the directions exactly and you're on a 7805u. boot -v on your myHack installation and look for any errors. Could you elaborate on "stays stuck"? Did you disable legacy USB after installation? Have you installed any kexts or many any changes to boot.plist? It boots into OSX fine with the USB stick? Are you dual-booting? You don't explicitly NEED the myHack installer to install a bootloader after OSX is installed, there are plenty available (but Chameleon, which myHack installs, seems to be one of the most popular...) StoopidHP
I hope I didn't miss this in another post, but my system doesn't seem to be booting into 64-bit (which is my understanding would happen if using TheOriginalPol's dsdt [the .aml is installed on root of HD]). Your guide and info is wonderful and much appreciated. You need to change your com.apple.Boot.plist file. Where it says --- <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386</string> --- Change it to: --- <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=x86_64</string> --- And restart. TheOriginalPol
@Aussie: The solution to your problem is actually very simple. The same thing happened to me, and it took me a VERY long time to figure out what was wrong. You must delete the file "/var/vm/sleepimage". Check out the following thread, and the more detailed solution I posted there... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=193012 - also, if you want sleep to work altogether, use my DSDT.aml ;-) @StoopidHP: Great, I'm thrilled to be of service to you! You could also delete that entry in Boot.plist altogether, since SL boots x64 by default. And then if you ever want to boot 32 again, just type the arguments at the Chameleon boot menu: arch=i386 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147377-help-installing-osx86-on-a-gateway-p-7805u/page/12/#findComment-1459295 Share on other sites

StoopidHP
I've read the conversation back a couple pages ago talking about voodoopower.kext, voodoopoweracpi.kext, and the various multipliers everyone was getting. When I first got OSX installed, voodoomonitor listed my multiplier as 4. Now it's 3 despite going through various combinations of kexts (still booting in 32-bit btw, the usb wireless is a 32 kext). While Mac OS seems fine, launching any software just crawls at the moment. I'm hoping someone with a higher multiplier could tell me what kexts they're using. Still using The OriginalPol's dsdt from like page 11 too. Thanks! EDIT: Nevermind, somehow I just got it working lol. 8.5x Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147377-help-installing-osx86-on-a-gateway-p-7805u/page/12/#findComment-1460207 Share on other sites
StoopidHP
Okay, I'm still having performance issues (read: games) despite voodoomonitor telling my I'm using the 8.5 multiplier. I've tried running geekbench, but for some reason it will not launch. So I'm running under the assumption that either a ) voodoomonitor is a dirty liar or b ) the 9800m isn't working properly. My Boot.plist contains the following keys and strings: <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1024x768x32</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> <key>PciRoot</key> <string>0</string> <key>pmVersion</key> <string>19</string> So I'm correct that the 9800 should be running properly, correct? Or is there something I should have loaded after the myHack install? Are any of you fellas running the Starcraft II beta by any chance? Getting it to run with low-medium settings at a comparable speed to high under Win 7 is the goal. I know better than to expect perfection from my Hackbook Thanks! TheOriginalPol
Not much of a gamer myself, especially in OSX. I don't see anything wrong with your Boot.plist (except that you could change your graphics mode to 1920x1200 if you wanted, or 1440x900 if you have WXGA screen). It looks like you also have the correct pmVersion string, although personally I don't mess with SleepEnabler.kext at all. I guess that wouldn't change speedstepping anyways. Have you already had your Mac installation for a long time, or is it fresh? I ask that because you might be best off just doing a fresh install. (especially if you're having problems with apps not even launching). I know I've had situations in the past where it seemed it was simply a bad install, and everything ran way too slowly... then upon a HD wipe and reinstall, it worked much better. Even though I used the exact same process both times. What does it say in the Graphics section of System Profiler? StoopidHP
It's about a 2 day-old install on a new hard drive. Using sleepenabler because my sleep wasn't working with the dsdt (I have it in root like you mentioned earlier, someone else said they had theirs in /Extra though, does it matter?). System prof says: Chipset Model: GeForce 9800M GTS Type: GPU Bus: PCIe Slot: Slot-1 PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 1024 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x062c Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: xx.xx.xx - internal Displays: Display: Resolution: 1920 x 1200 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Built-In: Yes Display Connector: Status: No Display Connected I wish 10.6 listed QE and such, but the Chess.app test seems to show everything as working (as does OS x86 tools for QE). But even moving the chess pieces seems sluggish. As far as apps not launching, it seems to just be geekbench. Do you know of any other software that could tell me if QE/CL/CI is working? At the moment anything graphics-related is under-performing my early '06 iMac. Again though, I'm still working under the assumption that the status column in voodoomonitor is correct. I suddenly went from cpu0/1 @ 768 Mhz x 3.0 to cpu 0/1 @ 2261 Mhz x 8.5 after messing around with a few things in OS x86 tools. I'm not a huge gamer, but Starcraft II and Steam get some use on the windows side. I'd love to move to 90% usage of the Mac OS on this machine. And again, thanks much TheOriginalPol. May just try installing onto a new partition to see if its just this install. Oh, and I'll change the graphics mode in the Boot.plist. Mac OS is at 1920x100, so I didn't know if that mattered. Also: If I'm doing a new install should I do Leopard first and try the GFX strings method written at http://aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?act...=509&page=1 ? It seems far more confusing and I'm not sure how effective it would be. Long time reader about hackintoshes, but new to attempting stuff. Also pt2: Heh, just found out the Xbox 360 webcam is 100% compatible with Mac OS X. I did not know that. VERY cheap little webcam if anyone is like me and barely uses one. TheOriginalPol
Well it looks like everything is being correctly detected and utilized with your GPU -- which means the performance issue is something else in the system. I'd second with what you said about installing on a new partition to see if it works out any better. The graphics mode option definitely isn't necessary and it won't fix anything -- it just makes your boot splash screen look hella' nice. You shouldn't have to mess with graphics strings... (they are sooo 2008!) for some miracle reason, after changing PciRoot to "0" it magically enables full graphics support on our system. That's something I just went along with and never questioned (considering how much of a pain in the a** it was to get working in 10.5). But if you end up experiencing the exact same problem again on the fresh install, then what the hey, why not. However I'll say again, I suspect the problem lies somewhere else besides your GPU... P.S. I have to agree with you on the Steam note -- I looooove me some Half Life Another thing that I just thought of -- whenever I boot into safe mode (-x) my system is extremely laggy and slow also. Maybe there is something causing your system to boot safe mode by default. I don't know how to tell... aside from when it says "safe boot" in red at login (which it doesn't always do). Try googling/downloading OSx86Tools (which is discontinued and outdated but will still do the trick) and run all the system repair tasks (the checkboxes near the top). Then run the attached script in Terminal. Then reboot. See if that helps anything. StoopidHP
Ugh, I feel dumb. Just read Blizzard forums -- apparently the Mac client is just awful at the moment, really not optimized for opengl yet. TheOriginalPol
I'm so jealous of you guys with your WUXGA screens. Can you get replacement ones anywhere? When I first got my FX, it was the WXGA. I had asked specifically and they had no WUXGA's left. However I was in Best Buy again later on, and noticed their display model was a WUXGA. After some schmoozing, (and prolly since I had purchased a $300 protection plan from them ;-)) they agreed to switch the display model out with mine. Nice. However when I ran over it with my car a few months later (thank GOD I got that plan), the idiots at Geek Squad replaced the shattered screen with a WXGA, and wouldn't help me when I complained. So eventually I bought my own WUXGA online, after a LOT of searching. When it arrived (with lightning fast shipping), I was easily able to take apart my laptop and change out the screens. Of course I'm very tech savvy, so if you're not then I would take EXTREME caution working with such delicate parts... Here's the link to the eBay item. I can safely say it's the best deal around: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT Anyone bothered trying to get the LAN working on these? I have never been able to get LAN working on these... if you get any luck be sure to post it here! Thanks again for your help Pol, glad you've hung around the forums so long. HUGE help! Hey, I love my P-7805u, and I love the fact that it runs OS X. I was a noob too once (I still am in many areas), so I understand the huge value of getting quality help! Just as long as you guys are smart about it (and try searching it yourself first, make sure you learn from everything, don't take advantage etc.), then it is absolutely my pleasure. And at the same time, I appreciate the contributions that everyone else here has made as well. StoopidHP
I'm so jealous of you guys with your WUXGA screens. Can you get replacement ones anywhere? Anyone bothered trying to get the LAN working on these? I just did like Pol and put in a new wireless card. I picked up an ar5bxb72 (think that was its number), not because its the best, but because it was cheap Seriously, it just took me all of three minutes. Easy upgrade and OS X recognized it without any hiccups. Bad news though... after a couple installations I still can not get the graphics acceleration we should be getting. Unfortunately the only bench tool that seems updated (and runs) is cinebench, and its not an apples-to-apples comparison between OS X and Win 7 (pardon the pun). I'll probably really focus on this once finals are over next week and I've got steam installed mac-side. awood0540
Sorry about the delay -- just got accepted to my first college of choice (no, I'm not still in high school!) so I've been swamped... plus I had to finish/submit the album art design for my band's new album... not to mention I just got a shiny new keyboard+amp so I haven't seen the light of day for a while now ;-) Anyways, here's my DSDT.dsl as requested. Enjoy, I hope it works as excellently on your system as it does on mine. NOTE: I had to rename the extension to .txt in order to upload it, so make sure to change it BACK to .dsl. Cheers. Oh, and one more side note: I still am having a problem where half the time when I sleep my machine, it instantly wakes back up... when it happens it usually can be fixed by changing USB configuration (plugging/unplugging something) -- but it's still rather annoying. I've been busy so haven't tried very hard to fix the problem, but if anyone has any insight on this it would be awesome. how do i compile the dsdt.dsl into a DSDT.aml file? Tried out Conti's new bootloader at myHack - it's using a slightly modified version of the AsereBLN bootloader I mentioned earlier. Haven't had a chance to check out how the injection features of Asere's bootloader work, but if anyone else wants to try it out, Conti's version at myHack works great so far on the 7805u. bunc5224
This is just for anyone still using 10.5 DO NOT update the bios to 25 stick with 23 the new bios update messes with the mac install severly getting kernal panics and having severe issues.. I double confirmed this by flashing bios with new trying to boot mac and panic or crash in mac uninstalled used 23 and works perfect if some of you smart guys can go throught what is actually updated in the new bios and repair it for mac that would be great. Again don't use the newest bios update to .25 because it will cause severe issues with mac. One of the panics i recieved was a cpu panic not sure what has changed. TheOriginalPol
Mick is correct, DSDTSE is an app, just search for it and download it. Once installed, open the .dsl file and press the "compile" button. Also Mick I'm guessing that along with breaking the sleep fix, it probably is breaking all the other (less noticeable) fixes in the modded DSDT, or in other words it's not even using the DSDT.aml at all. Lets try and see what Conti or Asere's documentation says about DSDT Override...
