Can you try different USB ports or maybe even other mouse & keyboard, if you have one? (I presume that you have wired apple mouse & keyboard What install method are you using? asadev
yup using the wired apple pro keyboard and mighty mouse. Il give it another shot and switch the usb ports. I used the ideneb 10.5.5 distro for the original install and the pcefi v9 with dsdt and added appleintelcpumanagement and disabler kexts. Everything works except for firewall and sleep! Law_zg
Update went fine, had to reinstall audio and AppleSMBIOS.kext. I used Disabler.kext from pcwiz because 10.5.5 AppleIntelCPUPM gave me kernel panic. AboutThisMac.tiff [[uPDATE]] I figured how to update with AppleIntelCPUPM from 10.5.5, I created new DSDT.aml by using args -f -newHPET with DSDT Patcher. Now I can use AppleIntelCPUPM.kext, first time I just double clicked DSDT Patcher. ken21
Yeah Luv , was for everyone with the lag issues , maybe we need some new efi string now for our cards , might be something that only some of ours have that is causing this issue it's not just the 8800GT, my 9800GTX gives the same iTunes mouse lagging problems too. I notice hacks with gigabyte boards w/intel chipsets arent having this problem. I'm using an asus maximus formula, for now I'm back to 10.5.5 . Azimutz
Now were talking Made me a 10.5.6 install dvd with INSTAHackintosh (by the way, a very useful and underated project) and did a clean install. I did this mainly because, in all my testing i always got better results installing this way then updating, amongst other reasons! It seems Apple should learn a thing or to about updates from Windows and Linux.. yes, OS X it's not meant for PC's but it's not only in PC's that problems are happening (example).. Never had any problem updating Windows or Ubuntu. I have my home folder in another partition so, reinstalling is not that hard but of course, this is not a procedure we want to do every time there's an update! Did it now cause i'm still testing... and it only takes me 15min to install a new system, from my test partition This way i got iChat working perfectly and Firewire got back to System Preferences under Network (had disapered when i stoped using last Jas distro.. i use INSTAHackintosh to build all my installs). Also, the update doesn't update iTunes, Quicktime or Safari (check 1 & 2.. pics of the updates i did after install).. they are separate updates. I saw a post on this thread, were a guy stated that updating through Software Update had installed him Safari 4.. man, he has to tell me what he's been smoking.. i want some to it must be powerful!? Don't know if the system is faster or stabler.. xBench shows me some small improvements in some areas but, the overall score is the same. One thing i'm certain.. my system is better!! (little details hard to explain) Now, this is my last post on this thread.. "New Releases and Updates" forum is not for solving problems! So, as a resume: -the only problem i have is, after sleep/wake i get this warning it's related to keyboard/mouse. After this, 80% of the times i have to hard reboot but the system works like nothing is happening, only the warnings keep showing over every window. -DSDT... My opinion is, you should only use it if you really need it, for some hardware, etc..!!! Think it's causing more problems than solving them! -Voodoo kernel.. Use it!!! Most likely you wont need DSDT. It's based on Apple's stock kernel source code and the guys are doing a great effort to allow us using this wonderful OS on PC's, in a way it was not possible until now. Think a bit.. if we follow the instructions, we don't even need Extra folder, EFI partitions, etc to do updates safely! Even if your cpu supports Vanilla, try it!! With this sayed, it's time to solve my remaining problems.. my ATI and things that don't work in audio, mic mainly (not very worryed about this cause i have a Edirol UA-700 USB audio interface).. i'm just short of space for having it connected all the time. If anyone can help me with the ATI i'd apreciate it tired of trying patches. Maybe now one of them works... Good luck guys!.. if you need any help just yell (pm). adrian mak
Azimutz, Is it make sense update to 10.5.6 and then use voodoo kernel 9.5 ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/21/#findComment-1003958 Share on other sites
Azimutz
Azimutz, Is it make sense update to 10.5.6 and then use voodoo kernel 9.5 ? To me it makes! When i started i don't even knew what kernel i was using.. it didn't matter.. all i wanted was to have my system working. For instance.. in linux, you don't have to use a new kernel if it breaks some app you use (like Vmware, that depends heavily on the kernel). You can keep as many kernels as you need and choose the one you need at boot prompt. You can do the same in OS X. And it's just a matter of time to Voodoo guys put 9.6.0 out. I'm using The last voodoo with the new System.kext.. everything is fine. p.s: I'm using Voodoo since Stage 9.4.0.. i checked the XNU Dev site at the time, saw that the work was based on "solid ground" and the improvements were obvious. So, i don't use any other.. and it's been improving with every new version. fredouille
My update went HORRIBLY wrong, causing me to reinstall from the stoneage. I had my DSDT.aml properly patched (btw, is it supposed to be /dsdt.aml or /DSDT.aml ?), Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel, and I updated to 10.5.6 by installing via pacifist so I could avoid some kexts (the usual culprits, Dont Steal Mac OS X [even though it's blocked by the kernel], AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext [diabler installed despite]), and to avoid the kernel being screwed over just in case. Here is a picture of the result in -v: http://i44.tinypic.com/2dra1yq.jpg I couldn't get into -s or -x. As you can see, I am assuming my DSDT worked, as I installed the 10.5.6 AppleRTC.kext, and no kernel panic occured. Any ideas? I can' t help you a lot, but 1: It's DSDT.aml and not dsdt.aml ( you must rename it) 2 it's hard to know if DSDT was successfully patched because in some cases , (like mine), it was not necessary like it was told everywhere 3: about ACPI: I don't know ( try to boot from CD and repair permissions) 4 : about the fact that verbose mentionned blacklisted...;, did you manually modify the AppleSMBIOS thanks to utilities or th com.Apple.Boot.plist with secret number, and the rest ?- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/21/#findComment-1004051 Share on other sites
userx
I think the update is faulty somehow. you can't even put your iPhone in UDF mode via USB cable after this "update". http://www.informationweek.com/news/hardwa...cleID=212500729 DFU Issues in OS X 10.5.6 Lots of users have been experiencing problems with the use of DFU mode after applying yesterday’s 10.5.6 system update. We believe this behavior is due to a kernel bug not a specific countermeasure by Apple. Possible fixes are (try at your own risk!) - 1. Replace the following plugin kexts from within IOUSBFamily.kext with the ones from 10.5.5 and then rebuild kextcache (if you don’t understand this, then you shouldn’t attempt it!) /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext 2. Use a USB hub in-between the DFU device and the Mac and insert/reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable. 3. Use a PwnageTool created .ipsw on Windows! Oh the irony! http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/21/#findComment-1004056 Share on other sites

For me did too I'm noticing some speed improvements, launching apps, opening internet connections, i have the digital in/out listed in System Configs/Audio (didn't have), firewire too in Network, etc etc... You realize that only people having problems post on discussion boards? These things happen on every update, there is not going to be a 10.5.6.1 or anything, it will calm down in a week. bcmalloy
Updated from ideneb 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 on Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L mainboard using this guide http://insanelymac.blogspot.com/2008/12/pr...pdating-to.html Works Great just needed to re-install audio and a couple of kext to get restart and shutdown working again and information in Hardware overview , runs FAST. Heres a little package I made for owners of the same board so they can solve all these problems with a few clicks also installs onboard audio driver, not advised for people using something else. enjoy... gigaupdate.zip Make sure you run if from the dmg or you have mounted the dmg before running Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/21/#findComment-1004062 Share on other sites
