OG_LOC_08
Hi. I have the P43 neo3 mother board with a Q6600 @ 3.2 GH and I have not been able to even boot the OSX DVD to the install. I have tried TOH, iDeneb, JAS 10.5.4 with Server, Kalyway 10.5.2, iTKiOS 10.5.2, and finely Leo4All. None will boot I was not able to install Mac OS X on this Motherboard. I Sudjust you get a Gigabyte motherboard that have a good rate of being able to install MAC OS X Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135046-msi-p43-neo3-f-mobo/#findComment-967705 Share on other sites
upinthecloude
OG_LOC_08 I believe the reason that you ahve not been able to boot ANY distro of OSX is because your DVD/CD Drive is connected via IDE. Your hacked distro's for some reason will not boot from an IDE CD/DVD drive. If you aren't using an IDE drive, then may I suggest you doing a retail install? iBrianc, The MSI p43 Neo3-F board has not been confirmed fully compatible with OSX yet. I myself have this board, and am still trying to get it to work. I got Leopard installed on it fine, but now it will not boot due to various kext errors. It probably will work after a bit of work, but I am no 100 percent sure. JCsHands
So I just bought this board and am hoping to use the Boot 132 method to get this up and running. I see that the past post was over 6 months and I was wondering if there has been any updates with this board and OSx86. I found the only distro that would install on my set-up was Kalyway 10.5.2 - then update to 10.5.5. You will have to patch the ALC888 after installation but this is easy. quis
I'm using a P43 Neo, which is essentially the same with your mobo. (Yours is better of course. ) I tried Kalyway, it just stuck at reading the disc. JaS 10.5.4, can install, but pretty nasty to deal with the post patches and updates and I always fail to get things work. Retail? Have only tried two boot132 iso and failed. I believed I can find one that my machine can use or just make one by myself. But I think retail is too troublesome for me to try now, so maybe some other day I'll go try again. And now I'm using iDeneb 10.5.5 and the essential things are working good except sound. And I don't use sleep so that doesn't matter much to me. (Install only with some fixes, all the drivers are installed after Mac OS's installation.) (QE/CI with ATI 3870) It's basically really easy to do it with this distro! Maybe you should try iDeneb. (DSDT patch works great, no need to flash bios, at least for me) But recently I find that our great pcwiz is working on his distro named iPC OSX86, up to 10.5.6! It's not released yet but so far looks awesome!! Since I just can't get my ALC888 sound to work, I'll wait for this marvellous distro. You can give iDeneb a try first anyway. I have the MSI P43 Neo3-F and I've had absolutely no luck getting this working. As an aside, I also updated my board to the latest bios from MSI (and I didn't see it in the modded list that's mentioned earlier in the topic). I have to enabled AHCI which is all well and good to get it to see the drive, I erase and format the partition as a journaled one... I get to the install part, and no matter what options I check under the customize, fixes, patches, drivers, applications, whatever, I click install, it starts loading... I skip the verification of the disk since it verifies fine every time, and it starts the install process. Well no matter what I do, it crashes about 30 seconds after that. It goes to evaluating time left, etc, the blue bar starts moving, then freezes before it even goes an inch, and I get a crash report. Hard to copy and paste it but basically it says: Thread 6 crashed. KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE 0x00000000 With a ton of other stuff. Crash log is like, 300 lines long. I've tried everything I can think of (which isn't much). Any ideas out there? JCsHands
So I have this MSI P43 Neo-F board and it looks like I might have a resolution to the instant reboot. http://www.infinitemac.com/showthread.php?t=827 I was asking about this issue in the infinitemac.com forum and I was pointed to this article. I am at work, but I was able to update the ISO, really easy with the terminal and then boot off it VM Fusion. I will try it out when I get home, if it works I will post some instructions on how to modify the ISO. JCsHands
Ok so the patched iAtkos 5 DVD didnt fix my install problems. However iDeneb did. So I was able to install OS X on my system using the iDebeb 1.3 DVD. Now it appears that the issue is with my ACPIPlatform.kext file. If I use the stock one I get a "14805 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" error. So I replaced the ACPIPlatform.kext with the one from JAS 10.4 and also some other one from 10.5 but then I would get as far as a kernel panic stating that "Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI" So That is where I am at now. Quis emailed me stating that he simply had to tick the ACPI fix on the iDeneb DVD and it resolved the issue, but when I do that I get an instant reboot. Anyone else have any ideas? JCsHands
So I installed it! Thanks to quis, he sent me a message what he enabled to install OS X on his system. So what I did was I used iDeneb 1.3 with the following: Chipset: ICHx Fixed, JMicronATA (I used NVinjuect for my Video Card 9800 GT 512) Fix: ACPI-Fix, Cpus=1-Fix, AppleSMBIOS-800MHz, FireWire Remove I installed OS X with the kexts and fixes, rebooted. LAN worked, so I downloaded the DSDT tool. Once I also had to install the included boot loader so that it would work, then removed the cpus=1 from the com.apple.Boot file. With this I had Working LAN, Video, CPU (E7300 Core 2 Duo) and IDE/SATA. Now, after I started to add the EFI Strings and add/remove kexts for the video I broke it again, but it seems like it is able to run. Quis stated that he got his audio working while playing with some audio kexts. So I would say that the MSI P43 Neo3-F is OS X compatible, but it looks like it takes some work. msl777
I believe I typed my story in one of my posts long forgotten on here, but I have the same mobo as you and got Kalyway 10.5.2 (with Chameleon patch to boot DVD). Just search my posts on my profile (and the threads linked to them) and you'll find your answer. I also have the rare ALC888 kext that was on Taruga's site when it wasn't down. Anyways, my process was a long one, like probably almost everyone here. I spent about maybe 2 weeks furiously searching how to do this and proud to get it running decently. I'm not updating it for fear of reinstalling, but unfortunately my mobo/processor doesn't support vanilla kernel. And I can only boot with one core (Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz Wolfdale). I think the only way I can boot with both cores is to have someone hack the BIOS for me... :\ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135046-msi-p43-neo3-f-mobo/#findComment-1029477 Share on other sites
JCsHands
I have found that with the DSDT patcher I was able to use the both cores. I now have iDeneb 1.3 installed and *almost* loving it. I found that the LAN works OOB, so I do not need to bother with any kext files. I am using the jmicron and ICH10 from the iPC distro. I know that my 9800 GT will work NVinject 2.1, but I would like to have TV Out, so I am playing with the EFI strings to see if I can get that working. msl777
Oh sweet, yeah it worked thanks! However, it still shows up as "2.53Ghz Unknown" in About Mac...is there a way to change that? Gujal
You need to install AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext from this post. It is sorta NVINject but for SMBIOS and it works with vanilla AppleSMBIOS.kext, so even when you update OSX, this will continue to work. JCsHands
Quick update, for anyone else that was having a hard time getting there audio working on this board I found a codec dump that works nicely. I was not able to get one of my Live CDs to boot, but this codec file gives me audio out, so its a start. So use this along with the HDA patcher and you are good to go. JCsHands
Has anyone tried the new iDeneb 1.4 with this motherboard yet? I have tried it with a couple of the fixes but ultimately I have to copy the ACPI and ACPI Platform kexts from my current 1.3 installation. If someone has gotten this to work please share your experiences on what you had to do to get it to work. Or even better if someone got the boot 132 or munky EFI method to work. I will play with it over the weekend and report back on anything I have found. JCsHands
That is awesome! It turns out that I have still not have had time to play with iDeneb 1.4 enough to get it working. CalvinSyndrome your voodoo must be stronger than mine, I was not able to get the iPC beta to work, maybe because it was Beta or maybe I didnt fiddle with it enough. iStep
hi there! i just installed iDeneb 1.4 - 10.5.6 on the MSI P43-Neo. i installed from an IDE drive on an IDE disc because iDeneb could not see any SATA disc. i tried IPC first but this lead to a reboot after showing the apple logo for half a second. i partitioned the disc with that internal tool as one partition (hfs extended + journal) and selected only four drivers (ICHx-fixed, JMicron-ATA, ALC888,nv-darwin) and NO fixes. i think it does'nt matter which drivers you select - i tried all nvidia- and all alc888-drivers included (also Taruga's), none of them are working. also the fixes seem not to work. after the installation you got to reboot again from the iDeneb disc, press F8 for a command prompt and type 'rd=disk0s1' (without the quotes). this starts the system and leads you to the welcome screen... ethernet works out of the box but no SATA, no sound, no quartz extreme. the included x86tools program seems to be unstable - it messed up my about-dialog and could not restore it. so far by now. here is what it looks like (in german): Modellname: Mac Modell-Identifizierung: MacPro3,1 Prozessortyp: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E7200 @ Prozessorgeschwindigkeit: 3.17 GHz Gesamtzahl der Kerne: 1 L2-Cache: 3 MB CPU-Funktionen: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL EST TM2 SSSE3 CX16 TPR PDCM SSE4.1 Speicher: 2 GB Busgeschwindigkeit: 1.07 GHz my hardware details: MOBO: MSI P43-Neo (MS-7519) BIOS: v1.7 Chipset: Intel P43/IHC10 IDE: JMicron JMB368 Audio: Realtek ALC888 LAN: Realtek 8111C CPU: Intel Core2Duo E7200 RAM: JEDEC#3:400MHz/EPP#1:533MHz VGA: Palit Nvidia GeForce 9500GT Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135046-msi-p43-neo3-f-mobo/#findComment-1093909 Share on other sites
iStep
i made SATA working by turning AHCI on in BIOS and made a fresh install on a SATA drive. none of my installations could be booted directly. l still load the kernel from the iDeneb-cd. 'rd=disk4s3' loads the installed environment from the sata-hd but osx86-utils or other kext-tools can't be used this way. maybe a different kernel would help? any ideas? upinthecloude
For everybody who can't boot into iPC... you must boot with cpus=1 flag first, and then apply the DSDT patch (force compile) either within the installer or a separate GUI itself... I have but one more kink to work out and that's audio =[. I just can't seem to get the ALC888 to work.
