MoFF
I'm using a Motorola SurfBoard 5100 (SB5100) on Windows via a USB cable, and I cannot use the ethernet method as I only have one ethernet port which is connected to a switch I am using for my home network. I have checked the Motorola site and they do not provide USB drivers for my modem under Mac OS X, only ones for Windows operating systems. So, would it be possible to somehow use the Windows drivers under Mac OS X? Or is my only option to go out and buy another ethernet card? Any replies are GREATLY appreciated. I use a D-Link DWL-122g wireless USB dongle works after driver download from Ralink site for OSX. No wire ethernet yet. Besides, unless the drivers are universal meaning the same driver built for PowerPC and x86 then you should have no problem. PowerPC drivers will not work on x86 MacOSes. Other than that, I don't think it exists. thrunner
I cannot use the ethernet method as I only have one ethernet port which is connected to a switch I am using for my home network.Much easier to get a router and go with ethernet. Is it possilble to make a d-link work? I doubt there are many OSX USB drivers for cable modems. There are plenty of printer drivers though. kocoman
The driver exist in /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBCDC.kext/Contents/Info.plist, even the vendorid and product id (hex to decimal match) but it just dosen't get loaded. First of all does the sb5100 work on a real mac or do I need a mac version of sb5100? I don't understand the output of USB prober either "0xe00002e8 occured on endpoint" ? no kernel/dmesg/console/log messages is shown when I plug it in (same goes for usb mouse etc) its more diffuclt to use than Linux... MoFF
Forgive my ignorance, but where do I locate all these drivers? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11156-usb-cable-modem-drivers-for-1044/#findComment-71718 Share on other sites
dublove
Dude have you tried plugging the modem in via usb yet? I have a Motorola Surfboard 5100 and osx detects it as a usb cable modem right out the box. Deviant0ne
If your modem doesn't work, you may or may not have working USB ports. If you have working USB devices (a mouse or something), then nevermind, but if not, your first step would be to get your USB ports up and running. Check this thread for help.
