don't you mean the new applesmbios.kext from netkas? if that was what you installed it has nothing to do with this new update. all that matters is that you have to have a vanilla kernel installed. type uname -a in terminal and verify that you have darwin kernel, if something else i would hold on this update, anyone correct me if i'm wrong please....

Well it killed the partition I had my main amd install on

My specs

asus a8n-sli 3800+ x2

zeph 10.5.2 update

everything was working

So I installed it and it broke the drive do I have to pull all my data across to this drive and clone this one back over? sigh I had a feeling I should have cloned my drive then did the update in the morning or can I drag my kernel back over and see if it works? can pacifist do a uninstall of it?

Anybody know if the Quicktime 7.4.1 Update is safe for Hackintosh on Kaly 10.5.2 on Vanilla kernel, EFI and GUID? (full specs below)
Perfectly safe. The only updates I know since 10.5.1 that are a risk to hacks are 10.5.2 itself and now this Time Machine / Airport update.

Also, Time Machine update should work just fine on my system, correct?
If you are able to run on a vanilla kernel, this update *should* be ok, but your milage may vary. My system can run a vanilla kernel, but I choose netkas's work to enable shutdown and restart.

Shutdown and Restart work perfectly on my system as it is (I'm only lacking Sleep, really, which I never use anyway). I don't use Time Machine though, so I don't think I'll risk installing it. Thanks for the quicktime answer tho :)

The Time Machine update broke my install. iATKOS r2 with Kaylway 10.5.2 combo update and vanilla kernel package.

After restarting my machine went into a reboot loop. After selecting OSX in the Darwin Bootloader I would get about three lines of text before it'd restart. Nothing helpful, and none of the boot options made a difference.

Fortunately I always create a backup image prior to trying any suspicious updates, but treat this install with caution!

i installed the safari update, security update, and the time machine/airport update all at once and my osx install loaded right up =)

im not using kalyway, toh, or iatkos. im using the retail install with patched smbios and one other patched kext i forget (and of course some drivers but i only need 2 patched kext to get my system running on retail). so my install is as close as you can get to vanilla as possible for non macs.

Motherboard: Intel D946GZIS

Processor: Intel Core2Duo 4300 1.8Ghz

Graphics Card: ATI HD 2600 PRO 512MB

RAM: 1GB DDR2

Kernel Version: Darwin 9.1.0

Boot: Normal (MBR)

I used Kalyway's 10.5.1 DVD and didn't check the original vanilla Kernel options. The only things I checked in the install was NATIT_ATI Driver and the MBR option. I haven't installed the kalyway kernel update and wasn't sure if I should. I just started using mac recently because I got pretty much tired of microsoft's BS so I'm not really sure about somethings about updates and kernels. Well anyway I'm not sure if I should go ahead by installing the kernel update and the mac updates. Is my setup ready for this? Thank you for your help.

  • 1 month later...
this is a major bump but does anyone know if i can update 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 on a kalaway install?

There was a patch that went from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 specifically designed by Kaly. It was pretty painless, as far as I remember, it's what I'm running at the moment. I think you can find it at The Bay. Hope that helps.

Sorry for 'just' Linux' output but I haven't 'sed'ed" yet neither 'ioreg -bls' nor 'system_profiler' outputs.

For patching I was using: "OliU (c't Offline-Update für Mac OS X) 1.5"

Afaik there is no general public release of it yet but c't provided it on a "mac special". http://www.heise.de/kiosk/special/ct/08/03/

The former one for 10.4 can be found here: http://www.heise.de/software/download/ct_o...os_x_10.4/43654

Afaik both are german only.

Nevertheless the proggy is quite easy. I've just choosen the release # and the for me appropriate plattform then hit "make an image".

It wget's all patches from the apple.server (atm 'bout 3GB for intel^10.5) and makes a dmg image of it.

Then one can decide what patch is gonna be applied and which one ain't.

All current patches, as of yesterday, worked for me on the above mentioned hardware setup.

If you like this info then great. If not, then feel free to > /dev/null

Thx
