Rick aka Rictorg
BRILLIANT IDEA!!! I really think someone should do this... OK, its done LINKY - if everyone wants to add some info and change whatever, I just stuck a couple things that popped into my mind in there I made some contributions to the WIKI page. This is a good idea! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/5/#findComment-732213 Share on other sites

FootinMebum
Try the Kabyl kernel from the Kalyway 10.5.2 install disk. It's the 64 bit enabled kernel. Sleep and shutdown work and Final Cut Pro runs GREAT!!! If you are having trouble getting FCP to run.. it's prob b/c you have no ethernet and the Qmaster engine is trying to load itself. In spotlight, delete everything that pops up under the search term "qmaster" and FCP should load. I'm still working on getting compressor to work w/o an ethernet card. jimmyvau
I installed kalyway 10.5.2 on my PC and was able to get the sound to working using the STAC9271D kexts linked earlier in this thread. However I cannot mute my onboard sound. I can mute my USB headphones so I know it's a problem with the onboard sound. Anyone know if I can edit something in the kext plist or what it is I have to do in order to get mute to work with my onboard sound? BrilliantWinter
does anyone know how to check which kernel is currently installed and possibly change them without reinstalling? and does anyone have any idea if the q6700 is 64-bit? I had heard that all intel chips that have been released recently are 64-bit but normally run in 32-bit mode. I would love to have it running in 64-bit mode tho! are you able to adjust the volume of the onboard sound at least? I just checked and I dont have a mute button, and the mute button on my keyboard doesnt work either, but I can still change the volume with both the slider and my keyboard (I know it doesnt completely mute the sound, but it gets it pretty darn low for me, I cant even hear it when I turn it down all the way) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/5/#findComment-736462 Share on other sites
jimmyvau
Yeah, I can adjust the volume with my keyboard and the slider on the menu bar, but when I press the mute button nothing happens. Yeah, the q6700 is 64bit. If you want to check to see if you are running 64bit, which you should be if you installed the vanilla kernel, even though I think there are a couple others on the kalyway disk that are 64bit as well, just open up console and there should be a message that says something like "enable 64 bit mode" or something like that. It'll be in amongst the boot text. Another easy way to check is to press f8 at boot and type -v. this will flash up a whole bunch of text on the screen and that message should be in there at the beginning somewhere. Treats
Yeah, I can adjust the volume with my keyboard and the slider on the menu bar, but when I press the mute button nothing happens. I'm having this problem as well. When I adjust it all the way down, it still outputs sound and when I hit the mute button it shows the volume thing like it's trying to mute, but it doesn't mute. Also, I haven't been able to get it to work with the AHCI BIOS setting. I've had to use the IDE setting, even though I have SATA drives. I don't know much about the difference between the two, but I'm happy enough that my system it generally working now. Does anybody know if I'm giving up performance using this setting? I edited the wiki a bit to add what I've learned from my experience. It's getting to be a useful page, but it could use some more specifics about installation and BIOS settings to be a real one stop shop for this board. I will try to contribute some more, but it would be helpful if any of you more familiar with the differenct kernels and bios settings would help, too. Thanks. BrilliantWinter
oh, cool cool, I just downloaded iscrobbler and it told me plus, its a useful app! strange about the ide, what does it do when you try using ahci? has anyone tried the AppleHDA Patcher for it? I am not sure about it, cus it said that the STAC9271D doesnt work, but that is most likely an old post. I am gonna hopefully try it a bit later (when I have time to mess with my computer, if I remember that is) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/5/#findComment-740933 Share on other sites
chadatucf
My Kalyway experience hasn't been as fortunate as most of yours. I spent 8 hours yesterday trying to get this to work, and was hoping some of you might be able to tell me if you received any such errors. My setup: Kalyway 10.5.2 dg33tl -6600 2 gigs of RAM 8800 gt oc integrated sound pci network card realtek 8139 (i think) I did buy a sata dvd drive, but my kalyway cd gives a /apple.boot.something.plist not found error. IDE cdrom allows me to start the setup though. I partition the drive using mbr as suggested, but in the 10.5.2 I haven't found a way to specify the mbr bootloader like I've seen in the 10.5.1 screenshots. Anyways, I view the installer log, and usually have about two crashes during the install. After a while there are a bunch of error input 5 input output errors, but finally i get a successful install. That is until I try to boot without the cd. I go and make the partition active as suggested in previous posts, but I get stuck at a screen that says loading Darwin x86 and then I get EBIOS timed out. I think I might have a bad hard drive, but just wondering if anyone else had run into these sorts of errors during install? Thanks a million. Your specs are very similar to mine, with the exception of the better processor. I've have had great success using Kalaway 10.5.2, and infact just successfully set up a dual boot with Windows XP. Here's a couple of things I would confirm on your setup: Are you using SATA0 for your hard disk and SATA1 for your DVD-ROM Drive? Have you disconnected any other drives (you can reconnect after installation)? Are you using AHCI or IDE for your SATA Hard Disk Type (in BIOS)? Are you otherwise using default BIOS settings (you can disable the onboard LAN without any problems)? Also, check to see if there are any special instructions for your video card. If you answer yes to all three, I would run a checksum on your downloaded iso, and (assuming it checks) reburn a new disk at a slower burn speed. If you're still not having success, report your BIOS version. ... As for your second problem, I had difficulty finding the MBR setting yesterday when I set up the dual boot (the first time I did the install, it followed the walkthrough perfectly). I just went with it, and it used MBR. I am not certain, but I surmise that it used MBR due to the existing windows XP installation. Of course, if it doesn't work, you're out... what, 15 minutes? (OSX installs very quickly) Good Luck! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/5/#findComment-746503 Share on other sites
CT86
I am having a problem booting into the hard disk drive after installation I have no option to type anything and only get a black screen, I started a new topic about it not to distract from this one. I was wondering if anyone had some insight on this issue. I was also wondering what Kernel the majority of you all are using and whether you have full functionality with it. the link to the topic I created is here The only thing I could have tried differently is taking out all hdd's except the one for apple then putting them all back in, but I would like to keep this as a last resort. Really need help on this one, I have to write an English paper but my mind won't let me get started until I figure this out. Thanks **Edit: Solved the problem, AHCI not ide :/ now to only get that paper done... Werdna713
took a day but it is up and running. makfunk
I followed all the tips of this thread and finally got Aitkos v.4 working on my setup. The interesting thing is after installation, when it restarts I was getting the holly NO BOOT DEVICE FOUND message. After many bios setups I decided to hook my sata hd (with only osx installed, no windows) to an external USB enclosure and guess what??? I was able to finish installation. I restarted the system many times with this setup, but every time I put this hd back to its sata port on the motherboard I get the same NO BOOT DEVICE FOUND found. What exaclty I should do while in OSX for it boot from the sata port? thanks a lot, you guys made it possible. I still should give Kalios version a try but if this one works Im done. I use an external usb card that works fine. CD rom is not recognized and no network, but I wont need that for now. thanks again and lets see if i can fix this. all the best, makfunk - Intel Q6600 Quad Core - Intel DG33BU motherboard - 4 Gb of DDR2 800 - Samsung SATA 250GB - Samsung DVD-RW - GeForce 7200GS Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/5/#findComment-950921 Share on other sites
cancerman
I can't get this to work. DG33TL Seagate 1TB on SATA0 LiteOn DVDRW on SATA1 SATA set to IDE IATKOS v4i 10.5.4 install I've partitioned it several times so far. MBR and GPT. Always with the first partition Mac and the second Windows. I even tried it with just one partition. Setting SATA to IDE is the only way to get the install DVD to boot. After install it just boots to a blinking underscore. Doesn't matter if SATA is set to IDE, AHCI or RAID, same thing. Everything else in BIOS is default. Would it be worth it to grab a Kalyway DVD? I was hoping to get it going without Ubuntu and grub, but that's what I'm going to try next. kizwan
I can't get this to work. I was hoping to get it going without Ubuntu and grub, but that's what I'm going to try next. Hi, I have installed Kalyway 10.5.2 & JaS 10.5.4 on this mobo. With both installer I got "boot1 error" or "partition error" after installation. Fortunately, I always have JaS 10.5.4 installed on my external hard drive which I was use for testing. I also have chameleon installer on that drive. To fix the boot error, firstly I boot with my external hard drive. Then I execute chameleon pkg installer and install the chameleon boot loader to internal drive, which you unable to boot before. After that you will be able to boot with your internal drive. I think this also can fix the blinking underscore because I believe the installer (DVD - Kalyway or JaS) was trying to install the boot loader but something wrong happen. This also affect windows vista, if you have it as dual boot, that you will unable to boot into it. Don't worry, after you have done the above fix, boot with your vista DVD installer and use repair tool to fix the problem. Just follow this simple step, will need a couple of reboot with the vista DVD though:- 1) boot with vista DVD. 2) open command prompt & use diskpart to set vista partition as active partition. 3) reboot with the vista DVD again and enter repair tool again. 4) this time it will detect your vista partition & will try to fix the problem. 5) after the fix complete it will need to reboot & reboot with the vista DVD for the last time. 6) enter the repair tool again & open command prompt, execute diskpart & this time set back your OSX partition as active partition. 7) reboot with your internal hard drive. One more thing, I set to "Legacy" at drive configuration in bios because I have problem booting with "Native" (except AHCI mode). The problem is it always stuck on POST (intel) boot logo, stuck at code "5A" if I'm not mistaken. By referring troubleshoot manual at intel webiste, it stuck when trying to reset SATA controller. This is not the only board that I experienced with this kind of (weird) problem. The other board is Intel board DQ35JO. I did not bought both board on the same day where DQ35JO was on december 2007 & DG33TL was a couple days a go. I think I maybe need to udate my bios & there is no way both board is defective since both work wonderfully. Hope this information useful to you guys. Good luck. kizwan Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/5/#findComment-976160 Share on other sites
cancerman
I got it to work with grub and a kalyway dvd. I guess the DG33TL requires one of the motherboard kexts on kalyway. japanstefmac
Intel DG33tl How did you get sleep mode to work? My screen goes black and if I turn off sleep mode same issue. After I installed with Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd I didn't have an issue with sleep. Are you using 10.5.1? I didn't test if it would go to sleep when I originally installed 10.5.1 (before upgrading to 10.5.2.) I am not sure why but with my install of Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd, I didn't have to change Drive config in my options from IDE. I'm using a SATA hdd and dvdrom drive. Biggest problem was solved after the first installed. Went the MBR route, and then made sure to hit customize and install was kext's were needed. When I originally installed 10.5.1, I had to make sure to match the MBR setting that was chosen when editing the partition, to the one (check-box) found in the Customize button right before starting the installed; last row I believe. Computer is running flawlessly, using turtlebeach adapter for sound right now until I connect the sound jumpers on the actual board. And as to lan, what are you guys working with? I have a slot for a pci card and a few slots for usb as well. Are you guys capable of getting 5.1 and 7.1 sound from the built-in audio? If not, I'm going to try out a Dynex soundcard and see if that will work out because I need 5.1 sound. japanstefmac
Went with the Apple USB to ethernet; found one for 20$ open item at Best Buy. Plugged in and fully recognized. Though, I am still having a problem with sound. I ran the kext posted earlier, and I still get a HD Audio Output in my sound devices. Before even installing the kext, I had the HD Audio Output in the listing. I test with my Turtle Beach USB adapter and it sees it and plays sound through that as well. Any suggestions? I'm trying to come up to standards so that I can have 5.1 surround. Thanks and this thread is extremely useful! crackerandres
alright how about retail DVD install with boot 132. i'm running kalyway 5.1 right now and i'm just not feeling all of the craziness that we have been doing to get these boards to work. i was VERY tempted to go ahead and get a different board and just use boot 132 to put all of my kexts and install from RETAIL dvd no modifications. the true vanilla kernal, but i decided i might give this one more go before. has anyone gotten it to work by any chance? also i was planning on using chameleon boot loader. thanks for your time guys. hope i can eventually figure this out.
