Donny Quota
How do I manually install kexts? I'm trying to get audio functioning, but the tool linked to in an earlier post is not working correctly. Bydgoszcz
i updated the bios and now i can't boot from any osx related installation media (dvd or hard drive partition). could somebody give me older bios files (before 2008). edit: i found via google. What BIOS version are people using? I just noticed that Intel released 0413 last week, I havent gotten past the BSM Auditing hang yet.... so I figured maybe this will work, who knows. But if it doesnt I think I need to back up the BIOS to an older version. BIOS 0326 (12/06/2007) works, just set the SATA to AHCI, make sure have a PCI-e graphics card (I also set in the BIOS the video to PCI-e) and off you go. chocolatemonk
I am now waiting on Newegg to deliver my SATA DVD. I also used the purchase plan. Bios set to be AHCI. Everthing should work except for the sound which needs patching. I am a N00B to all of this OSx86 and Mac's in general. I tried looking for a link or description on how to patch the audio (appologies if I missed it!!) but can someone explain or link how please. I also see a lot of "dual boot XP" how to's for 10.5.1 Kalyway . Is Vista the Same? We all got the home premium with the bundle and its all ready loaded. I would like to keep it for comparission and gamming (dx10). Any help or feedback is really appreciated. I am going to assume the adding a secondary data drive (post install) would best formated fat32 so both OS's could read and write. I also wonder how many of us work for CC or BBY? the dog or the squad? I also wonder how many of us work for CC or BBY? the dog or the squad? I just recently read that the audio can be patched, but I'll have to look to see where I read it, from what I remember it was on the hardware compatiablity wiki (HCL) I still can't figure out why people are dual booting with Vista , just a personal preference to stay as far away as possible, that being said VMware and unity seem to be working pretty good on my buddies Hackintosh. Also a side note when it comes to MBR and GUID partitions. Now in my experience if you install with MBR it should boot no problem to Leopard but oddly enough when you install GUID it just boots and says "No bootable device - Replace and press any key" this drove me nuts!! I tried a bunch of different things EFI_v80, GRUB etc. nothing worked till a stumbled on to a post about MBR vs GUID, half way through a tle88 had mentioned activating the partition after install. Activate your's partition. Boot dvd, and in terminal: diskutil list fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 (your disk number) p f 2 (your partition number, mbr=1, guid=2) write yes exit -.- reboot and remember take your dvd out. And guess what she booted!! FINALLY!! Now this may or may not work with Kalaway GUID install, I did this based on a Retail copy install with efi_v8, but I had the same exact problems with no bootable device when installing Kalaway GUID, so try this out if you run in to the same problem. Here arethe exact steps I took: -I insterted the DVD and booted to it -"Loading Darwin x86 . . ." -Choose Your Language screen -Next the Mac OS X leopard instalelr screen Then I go to Disk Utilities. Then click the erase tab and erase my drive completely. I select Mac OS Extended Journaled. and call it OS X and make sure it is MBR. Agreement page will come up and click Agree. Then Install summary. I customize the Nvidia destop card, wifi, and MBR as my only selections Click Done, and then Install. I then skip the verification process because I have all ready verified the disk 4 times. I then get a green circle with a checkmark comes up saying that the Installation was successful. It then wants to reboot and in freezes on the grey loader screen. I then reboot to go into -v at the loader and I just get a blinking cursor in the upper right hand corner. 10+ mins it just sits there. I am at my wits end. worpx
hey there, I too have the dg33tl board and am trying to get the onboard lan to work. Audio works natively with the iATKOSir2 release, but my video (7600gt) is at 1024x768 (doesn't look too good on a widescreen lcd) and LAN (onboard) doesn't work at all. Any suggestions (besides the new LAN card route)? Btw @ monk: I suggest using IATKOS (using AHCI) instead of kalyway. cwackduck
Hey Chocolate I think the problem you're having is checking that Nvidia Kext installer from the disc. I'm running mine from an EVGA 8800gs 364mb and when I initially installed the provided kexts from the kalyway disc it installed fine but then I got the kernel panic on the first boot like you did. How I got around it was to just leave the Nvidia stuff alone but keep everything else. It booted up the first time although had crappy framerate. Then I used the latest NVinstaller to install the drivers for the EVGA later. Once I did it in this order it worked great from then on. And yeah, right now if you want any kind of networking it's going to have to be PCI or USB. I'm running a cheapy Dynex wifi-G card and it picked it right up. As far as the sound goes, I used the codec from the previous few pages. I'll put it on here again for ya. This was my second time messing with OSx86 and I found the Kext Helper program to be incredible helpful in installing these things, makes everything super easy. Just remember when using the current KextHelper, you have to set a user password, it can't be blank. The STAC file is the one you'll want to install to get the sound working. I installed it with KextHelper and had sound up the next time I booted. Also, just google NVinstaller and look for version .41. it's a pkg file that I used and it got my EVGA running with no issues. Hit back if you have any more problems or questions. PS. the Squad. ForTiLLiaN
Using the Kalyway 10.5.2 install disc and checking NVInject under options got it installed perfectly the first time. For the audio i actually bought from work (bestbuy) this USB headset Plantronics Headset which has this gem in it Essentially it is a USB soundcard with microphone input. Unlike the turtle beach one people have recommended which is audio out only, i needed a mic and this provided the port for it. Even after updating the bios to the newest one, audio continued to not work. Anyways, PM me if i can help anymore. BrilliantWinter
I have most of the parts that I need to install osx on, and I am just getting the last bit today to set it up, but the disk that I have is Kalyway (or IAktos) 10.5.1, shouldnt make too much of a difference, right? and I should be able to update everything to the most recent version pretty easliy? Or is the 10.5.2 update a kernel update that will kill everything? My setup is as follows: DG33TL Motherboard Q6700 - Quad Core 2.66 GHz Proc 4 GB Kingston ram 250 GB HDD (going to be unplugged when using osx for the first bit, wanna test out osx before I for sure set it all up with the bootsector) 160GB HDD (installing osx on this) NVidia Geforce 7300GS (256mb, from what I understand I should use the default drivers and run nvinstaller after the first boot?) Integrated networking (Gotta get a card for this to work, does it matter what card? I have a few floating around my house) Onboard intel sound (are we still having issues with this or did someone get it resolved?) Any help is greatly appreciated! BrilliantWinter
did you even try the onboard sound? this is my first attempt at a hackintosh, but right away I was able to get it working, put some sound kexts and the tulips network kexts on my usb, installed (15 minutes to install osx compared to an hour for vista!! amazing ), ran the kext helper and set that up, rebooted, got nvinject, rebooted again, it was working great, that is, until I tried updating so I am guessing that even tho I have efi installed, I can't run the osx update from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2? I think I found an update guide by pcwiz somewhere that I will try using, but that really sucks. Is there any way of telling what updates will kill the system? or is it just major updates, like from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2, or 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 (when its released)? Rick aka Rictorg
Got my rig to work, though I haven't tackled the sound issue yet. Currently, I'm running an DG33TL (of course), with a Core 2 Duo 2.13, and 2 GB of RAM. I'm using SATA0 (when looking front to back, it's the top one on the right) for my hard disk, and SATA1 for my DVD. BIOS is default, except hard disks type is changed to AHCI. I used Kalaway 10.5.2, formated with MBR and am in OSX. This motherboard isn't the greatest to use for OSX (i.e. don't buy it for OSX), but is functional and pretty simple to install. The onboard LAN and Graphics don't work as of yet, and audio doesn't work out of the box. Thanks to all those who posted before me; y'all made this project a lot easier! Off to best buy to pick up something to get the LAN working! BrilliantWinter
ok, so as for my current setup (a lot has changed ), I have moved up to the kalyway 10.5.2 installer, way better than 10.5.1!! easier to use, better selections, no default gui changes that I noticed immediately... As for sound, it works, just not outta the box, I dont recommend installing the default sound drivers (use the ones posted earlier after first boot) as well as the NVInject installer (I tried just the kext, didnt work for me with 10.5.2, and dont use the kexts from the setup, didnt work for me either, at least with a GeForce 7600GS). Ethernet is screwed atm from what I can tell, but other than that it is a wicked system that I love to death!! thanks guys! if anyone happens to read this and wants more info on my specs, just say so, I am gonna be on here a lot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/4/#findComment-725747 Share on other sites

Treats
... put some sound kexts and the tulips network kexts on my usb... Just to clarify, does that mean you were able to get the onboard LAN working, or was the tulips kext for a pci card? I just started my project last night with a DG33TL, E8400, MSI NX8400GS, SATA DVD and PATA HD (going to switch to SATA, but I need a molex adapter) and 4GB mushkin DDR2 800 RAM. I was able to get everything working (at least everything I've tested) except LAN and sleep/shutdown/reboot. I've used: Kalyway 10.5.2 NVinject256 - from kalyway installer Audio driver installed with KextHelper (think I got the audio driver here: http://forum.applesana.com/107/7741/no-log...d-stac9271.html but I'm sure it's elsewhere as well) Can't remember which kernel I'm using right now, but I plan to try a few to see if I can get sleep to work. The processor is recognized as 2GHz instead of 3, but I think a bios update will fix that. Is it possible to make a page for this board on the wiki? There's a lot of information in this thread, but it would be nice to have it in one place. Treats
I found an old PCI lan card in a closet at my office, plugged it in and it works fine. Score. It's a 3com 3C905B-TX-NM. The newest operating system listed on the box is Windows 95, so I think you can pretty safely use any old LAN card. I tried putting in a regular DVD (Flight of the Conchords, season one disc 2, not to bait a tangent or anything) and it wouldn't play. It sat there for a while making DVD search noises and DVD player said no compatible disc found. Eventually I ejected it through the OS, but it didn't pop out, so I hit the button. Then when I popped in another it didn't mount at all and when I started disk utility, it stopped responding. Now it won't mount Kalyway either... Anybody else have a problem like this? The drive is a samsung SH-S203N. It's hooked up to the first sata port on the right if you're facing the front of the board and the HD is PATA. While I was writing this, it popped up telling me I'd inserted a blank DVD and asked me what I wanted to do with it. WTF? I am using a pci card, tried with onboard, but as everyone else has said, it doesnt work I was able to get everything working (at least everything I've tested) except LAN and sleep/shutdown/reboot. heads up with sleep mode, make sure to unmount any usb devices you have first (and possibly external hdd/dvd drives too), I have found that it doesnt reconnect properly and you have to reboot to get them back, my usb thumb drive dies, and I lose my bluetooth dongle oh, and my screensize changes but I am gonna try and write up an applescript to redetect my displays for that Is it possible to make a page for this board on the wiki? There's a lot of information in this thread, but it would be nice to have it in one place. BRILLIANT IDEA!!! I really think someone should do this... OK, its done LINKY - if everyone wants to add some info and change whatever, I just stuck a couple things that popped into my mind in there I think you can pretty safely use any old LAN card Nope, not any card, I actually had to try 3 different ones (brand new ones too!) before I found one that worked Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66238-getting-dg33tl-to-work/page/4/#findComment-731706 Share on other sites
