Onepoint I'd like the few people who DO read it to note, is that it's usually a good idea to read threads that are marked FAQ, or "Please Note" or similar, and have been stickied by a moderator. Usually it was done for a good reason, and it's probably worthwhile. Take particular note to the thread about getting copies of OSX86. I think it should probably be edited to include all illegal software. I know kexts are still illegal, but they're either going to be used by people already breaking the law, or people who are trying to use nonstandard hardware in a Real Apple Macintosh. Flames, Trolls, Bitching, and all the other pasttimes of wits who don't have a clue how to hack or code. I'm not a very good coder myself, but at least I'm grateful to those better than me when they come up with something useful to me, even slightly. Audio Hardware Drivers We're all aware that very little audio hardware is supported on the mac, especially hardware that is always, or nearly always integrated. This is something that Apple have to do to discourage pirating. If you're using an Audio CODEC over an Intel HD Audio bus (Most intel PC's) Then you might well have some luck with Taruga's AppleHDA.kext Patcher. It's in Hardware/Drivers. The support you'll get is likely to be limited, but it may at least be able to give you some kind of sound Input/Output. Pray, grovel, beg, and donate to Taruga if you want Him/Her to add support for your device to the Patcher. See the Flames. . section above again just to remind yourself to be extra nice, even if you give a coder a donation, it's not likely to cover the same cost of hiring a professional software team to make you a driver and they are till being incredibly generous. Wireless Hardware Drivers It's a similar situation to above only hardware support is even worse thanks to the lack of standardisation between hardware API's among the Silicon developers. You may be lucky. You may not. Most modern Laptop wifi is M-PCI-E and with alot of screwdriver action and prayer to your deity of choice you may be able to replace it with a compatible chip. If not, tough luck buddy, get a MacBook pro. Desktops of course, are a little less of a pain in the ass, you can add one of the supported PCI or USB wifi controllers without it making your life hell. Some drivers can be modified to support your hardware, but if you don't know how: be nice, don't make unnecessary threads and in general follow the guidelines above. New threads about how proud you are of your Apple Hac. I'm aware that I've made a thread or two myself about the T4210 I'm typing this on in OS X (Plug!!) But TabletPC support is a little rarer than getting a £150 Dell to run OS X. Not to mention that my main thread is a howto that I'm compiling on getting the hardware working on the Tablet, I know of at least two others on this forum who use them, and my instructions will work for the new 64bit model aswell, so I guess there's plenty more time for people to buy. My point is, If your hardware works out of the box, it could be usefull to tell someone about that, in case they want to buy your identical equipment. But since it's incredibly rare for a system to work out of the box and most of the threads are about simple standard hardware that almost works; I'd just append it to the "Look at my mac screenshots" Blah Blah Stickied thread. You've read my FOI, and you've looked through the top page, maybe the second of thread titles but can't see what you want. What do you do now? In just about EVERY PHP Forum, there is a function called "Search." There is every one in the InsanelyMac forums! In fact this one is a spectacularly good example, allowing you to search in great detail. So why nobody does is completely beyond me. ANUBIS ALIVE! It's in the titlebar. It'll find just about anything that exists on the forum. Please, use it. It's good for your kharma. Flames, Trolls, Bitching, and all the other pasttimes of :censored2: wits who don't have a clue how to hack or code. No really, don't. Getting to my point though, the search engine on the site really isn't very good. I address this to the board mods. The search is definitly the weakest part of the site. I don't know too much about web design, but how hard would it be to replace the current search with one based off Google's technology. Being able to search something like "x200 +qe +ci +callisto" would be a HUGE improvement and I think would also cut down drastically on the amount of new threads created. Hi, I am not trying to be a jerk and get banned (trust me I love this forum), but I am trying to just be an active forum member by letting you know that the search function blows. I mean that in the most sincere way. Not letting searches of less than 4 letters is quite rediculous considering you have a lot of stuff dealing with "os x", "g3", "g4", "ALC Audio", and other stupid (whatever the word is) that people use when posting instead of the full name. So Please, PLEASE fix the search function, because right now it is more effective to go to GOOGLE and type in what you are looking for followed by "OS x 86". "site:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php? <query> " type that into the search box for google (replacing <query> with your search) and you should get your desired results, effectively. I think it would be very good if this information were added to the first post in this thread. Preferably at the top.
