Guest patel4prez Posted June 28, 2012 Share Posted June 28, 2012 Hello all, I have a Dell E6400 that I am trying to install Mountain Lion DP4 on. I currently have Lion on it with most things working. I cannot get the Mountain Lion USB Installation Drive to boot though! Everytime I try to boot the installation, I get "Still waiting for root device" (after a few lines beginning with USBF; nothing to do with EHCI (at least I don't think) which is what most other people are experiencing ) I have tried every boot flag I know of: -x graphicsenabler=no (and yes) USBBusFix=Yes npci=0x3000 (and 0x2000) cpus=1 (and 2) pcirootuid=0 (and 1) I have also replaced most of the kexts from Lion that were problematic in Mountain Lion. Lastly, I boot with "arch=i386 graphicsenabler=yes" to get into my current Lion build, which leads me to believe that I needed to do this with Mountain Lion too, however whenever I boot with arch=i386, the Mountian Lion install just takes me back to chameleon. From what I've read so far, Apple removed the 32-bit kernel from dp2 and up. So I guess my question would be do I need the kernel from dp1 or do I need to do something differently to get past the "Still waiting for root device" error? Any help is greatly appreciated. I updated my signature with the relevant system specs. I guess my next plan of attack is to get DP4 working with the DP1 kernel?...I am slightly new to this and I'm not even sure if that's possible (copying over the mach_kernel from DP1 to the DP4 installation usb). Once you figure out what you need to do differently to boot Lion in 64 bit, chances are it will also be what is preventing you from booting Mountain Lion. First of all, sorry it took so long to respond. I've been quite busy lately. Second, I tried booting lion in 64 bit and it works (for the most part)! The only things that don't work are the keyboard, mouse, and the screen resolution is off, but I can fix all of those if I can just get Mountain Lion to install/work! Anyway, when trying to boot the installer from a small partition on the internal HD instead of the USB, I get a kernel panic at the following line: "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\" Any help is greatly appreciated. I have been stuck at the same error(s) and none of the above flags that eep357 mentioned seem to do the trick. Here's hoping that someone has better luck than me... Hi thingy,I tried what you said and still nothing changes.I was stuck at the boot screen,where it says 'still waiting for root device'. I've a working OS X Lion on my Dell Latitude E6400,P8600 2.4 GHz,4G RAM,64G M4 SSD. Hope someone can help me work out how to solve this,I really appreciate it.
