Installing OSX over a network?

Okay, I looked around and couldn't find any noticable topics over this.

I have an Acer TravelMate 220. Yeah, it's a POC. No WiFi network, No DVD drive, infact it's just a basic CD drive, doesn't even burn a CD.

It has a 1.13GHz Intel Celeron, 20GB hard drive, 512MB RAM, and I'm sure it has 16MB Video. Now, first of is it even possable to run OSX on this machine? Secondly, since it doesn't have a DVD drive, is there anyway possable to instal OSX over a network?

I haven't checked the BIOS yet, but I'll look for an option to boot from a network drive, though I doubt it'll be there.

In the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

To run os x you need SSE2 and PAE - run cpuid and see if you celeron meets those req's and you might have a chance.

As for network install - OS X doesn't support this - but it does support many other install methods. On a real mac you can do 'target disc' mode over firewire - but clearly that won't work for you.

Best options would be vmware to native or pulling the hard disk - installing in a usb external case on another machine and then reinstalling - that'll work great (OSX can be moved from machine to machine w/o reinstalls).

I think Celerons dont even have SSE, but correct me if I'm wrong.

There's no way to install over a network. I've tried using my iBook that doesn't have a DVD drive when Tiger came out. I finally gave up and got the CD version. Since there is no CD version for OSx86, you're out of luck.

Yes. That's the logo my dell Dimension 2400 had, the CPU was a 2.4GHz Celeron with SSE2 only.

My dad has a 500 MHz Celeron and it doesn't even have SSE. That's what I was thinking about when I said Celeron.

You can perform network installs under OSX

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ser...intools104.html

within these tools is System Image Utility

"For creating, modifying and managing NetBoot and Network Install disk images"

its a bit of a faff, unless your talking under the same subnet :-)

[edit] spelling

Good luck getting NetBoot to work on a Hackintosh. I doubt that it will work because it doesn't have Apple's firmware.
