I got a kernel panic the next time I rebooted (working on a portable drive with OS X). Something about "version mismatch between kernel and CPU"

I have a Gigabyte UD5 with i7 920 BTW.

Hi all. I´m here to share my experience on 10.6.2 via Software Update.

After I installed it, it simply bricked my system. The message that show is below:

Kext net.osrom.kext.Disabler - library com.apple.kernel.iokit not found.

Can´t load kext. net.osrom.kext.Disabler - failed to resolve library dependencies

Kext net.osrom.kext.Disabler failed to load.

Failed to load net.osrom.kext.Disabler

[sleepEnabler]Registering PowerManagement dispatch table...

panic (cpu 0 caller -code here-): "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU blablabla...

Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies)

sk.triaxis.kext.SleepEnabler

Is there a way to solve this issue? I´m not so worried about loosing my SL install because I have it backed up with Time Machine to another HDD partition. I´m going to install a Kalyway version to one partition so I can deal with SL files and folder in an easy way.

Cheers.

bb.

Yep - same thing. I have my system up and running again by deleting SleepEnabler.kext completely and rebuilding the caches. I had to use a backup portable USB drive to get to my OS X partition.

How did you exactly removed the SleepEnabler.kext from your system? I don´t have access to my SL partition.

Should I use my bootdvd to start the Snow Leopard from retail dvd or there´s another way to do that? Can I do it via Terminal? If yes, let me know the codes.

Cheers.

Seems to work fine here ...

Haven´t looked for kernel version, but have u run vanilla kernel on 10.6.1? Perhaps its an i5/i7 issue, so trying qoopz kernel could help.

Cheers

I just updated mine and I too had a KP on reboot.

First was due to IntelPM mismatch with new kernel so I got nullcpumanagement from Netkas and then I got another KP from Sleepenabler (it must be in my EFI partition, I couldn't find it) so got the new one from Netkas also.

Just trying to find my DeviceID's for my D-Link Atheros card to try the new Fix.

Thanks so much to Netkas!

Oh and BTW, I have a 8800GT and it's still working fine. I'm using graphics enabler in Chameleon and also my sound is still working fine using DSDT patch.

My system is nearly vanilla - stock kernel, EFI strings (no injectors), etc. except for the network card + audio kext.

Anyhow deleting the sleepenabler kext worked. Always have a working OS X drive on a spare HD or USB stick!

Here's what I did to update the system in the sig to 10.6.2 from 10.6.1.

  • Deleted SleepEnabler.kext from Extra/Extensions
  • Downloaded 10.6.2 update through software update
  • Installed rebooted
  • Copied new Netkas 10.6.2 SleepEnabler.kext link, to Extra/Extensions
  • Set permissions (as shown below)
  • chown -R root:wheel /Extra/Extensions/SleepEnabler.kext
    chmod -R 755 /Extra/Extensions/SleepEnabler.kext
    touch /System/Library/Extensions

All working great.
