PRESS RELEASE: Letter from Steve Jobs

August 24, 2011-To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

***

What can we expect now from Tim Cook? Very much of the same or some relevant changes in Apple policies? Let's discuss it.

i really wonder what this is going to do to apple's stocks.. i think this will in the end be a good direction for apple, no one is the best at anything forever, and perhaps tim cook will be the new best for apple, thats the hope anyways.. :)

Steve Jobs was fired because Lion converted Macbooks in giant iPods. :)

On a more serious note... my shares haven't plumped because of the absence of El Jobs, but the stock did drop slightly with the news which was to be expected. Time to see if Cook will keep pushing the company in a brighter direction so to say.

He was looking pretty rough during the last WWDC, and he was handing all the demonstrations over--in 2004 it was revealed he had a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (what a mouthful to say that must be), and I can't imagine he's boding well if that is in fact the case, given doctors would have given him only a short time to live.

On a lighter note, it looks like the new CEO is raring to go!

I hope you are right, but it is him who said:

Steve Jobs was (is!) a great mind. However I think that if more people work on a project, it can grow up better.

I can't even make a full post about it it's not even the fact that as a share holder the shares are most likely going to take a dip when the market opens in the morning but more on the matter that Jobs is actually gone now..

(aww have some fun)

The 2 Steves who created Apple sure did play a role in getting the personal computer to the mainstream, and with Steve Jobs and Apple helping push for new technologies in the new millennium, there's more than enough proof that he was an important person in our life time, whether you love him or hate him.
