Reports are in that Apple, ahead of time, has bought new 13.3 inch LED backlight units. Nano Electro-Optical Technology have both recently become suppliers of notebook-use LED backlight units for Dell and Apple, with shipments to each supplier expected to soar in the future. The shipments to both Dell and Apple are for high-end models, confirming that the Apple's upcoming streamlined notebook will fall somewhere between the 13-inch MacBooks and its 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models.

LOL

Yeah... big and clunky, STEVE ARE YOU LISTENING? WE WANT FAT, BIG MACS THAT DON'T FIT IN OUR CURRENT LAPTOP BAGS, YA HEAR?

hehe...

Anyways, I think the Macbook is due for a transition to aluminum enclosures. And this is what this is for. They can stop producing the macbooks that they have out now and sell the stock before shipping the new ones. They may even keep the same mobo they have now, cutting costs. Just because they are buying screens now, it doesn't mean they must quickly sell them or incorporate them into their notebooks... and I doubt they would have a 13.3" tablet Mac. I don't want to bother arguing it... it's stupid.

My laptop definitely fits in my bag. Fits perfectly. I love it cause it's sure as hell not so insanely thin that if it hides behind a popsicle stick, it's gone. And it's got some weight to it, so when I'm carrying it, I know I'm carrying it. I won't throw my bag and then come to find out, broken laptop. I don't care if you or anyone else likes the excruciatingly thin computers, doesn't bother me cause it's not mine. I won't try to change anyone's mind or anything, I was just saying I hate thin. Well, rephrase, I hate thin electronics. Cause I'm definitely all for the thin girls. Except not the anorexic ones, I mean they gotta have some meat on them, other than mine. Sorry off topic.

ANYWAYS, I'm hoping for the aluminum casings as well. I remember when I first heard about the update to the Macbook last month (or whenever it was), I thought it was the aluminum. Plus I think they already stopping producing new ones, or at least are getting close to stopping so they can sell all of them. Like you were saying above.

:hysterical: For some reason that reminds me of that Big Buts song.
What's wrong with big butts? :D

Everyone's so hyped up about the prospect of a mac "thin," if apple bought Styrofoam it would be seen as evidence of ramping up for impending production. We seem to have one of these stories on a weekly basis since mid '07...

They bought styrofoam?!? Oh my god, they're gonna use that for lining the new touchscreens so the hardware's more safe inside it after a fall.

Yeah, but iPhone was a rumor, so iPod Touch was a rumor of full screen iPod too, so why not speculate with this.

I really care, because I WANT a small MacBook Pro, I love my 12" PowerBook but I could love more a modern 12" model.

http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook

as i post this this buyers guide says that the current macbook is 37 days old. at that time it had a significant upgrade considering its history. all macs make it into the 100 - 200 zone before updates of any significance and the ibook/macbooks have shown them self to be fairly predictable so far. if they do update the macbook now that will have to make this model the shortest lived ever. a collectors item to be sure.

go to http://lowendmac.com/pb2/index.shtml

and check out the regularity for which the ibook/macbook line has a fashion for. sure enough macbooks will have LED screens and possibly some sort of aluminium case sooner or later. then again blue ray is coming too aswell as SSD's and esata ports. there is a new intel chipset coming out around may 2008. macbook pros are gonna be the first to get the new tech then followed a few months later buy the macbook. that would be a likely time for an upgrade i think. should be a nice one too and may get a new case and LEDs.

If there will be a Ultra Portable it wouldn't be a MacBook, but MacBook Pro like the line of PowerBooks, but maybe the Ultra Portable is a totally new line of Mac tablets.

So no new Macbooks ;)

I think they'll announce that they're updating the MacBook, just not right away. By that I mean that Steve will say 'We're updating our entire line of the next few months'. That way it incorporates the Mac Pro and Xserve.
