codeblue2k
How safe is it for the hardware to jailbreak my iPhone? Will I be able to return it to original factory settings incase I need to send it in for some repair? Do I lose any functionality that was on the iPhone prior to jailbreaking it? Are their any downsides to jailbreaking (features, call clarity, speed, ect) Thank, -J Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95354-i-have-a-couple-jailbreak-questions/ Share on other sites
Berzerker
Entirely safe. Worst case scenario: Put it in DFU mode and restore it in iTunes. Yes you will be able to return it to factory settings with a simple iTunes restore. If you unlock, then you may (which is hacking the SIM lock to use it with other carriers), but if you're just jailbreaking, then no. No downsides that I've seen. Don't use iNdependence. It never works for me. Use iFuntastic. It doesn't fail. Berzerker
Don't use ZiPhone. It incorrectly JB's your iPhone. Use this wonderful direct link to the version of iNdependence you need. I think you have it the other way around. Not only does iNdependence not install Installer, but it uses an old baseband version (4.02), so you lose the maps location functionality if you unlock. ZiPhone keeps it current (4.03 for 1.1.3 or 4.04 for 1.1.4) AND installs the installer.app Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95354-i-have-a-couple-jailbreak-questions/#findComment-680689 Share on other sites
(MoC)
iNdependence worked for me... But that was after I used ZiPhone Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/95354-i-have-a-couple-jailbreak-questions/#findComment-680692 Share on other sites
stroke
Nothing is wrong with ZiPhone, chances are you were on 1.1.4 using the 1.1.3 jailbreaker. Sure, Zibri is a pompous ingrate, but ZiPhone works fine. cmdshft
Numberzz is right. On iPhones it keeps the baseband current. Everything else just mucks it up. Plus, the new bootloader is {censored}, so downgrading it is better since there are more features to help with. On iPod touches, there were issues with "Spamming AT please wait" and the wonderful "BSD root" error. This was because ZiPhone was not specifically made for iPod touch's yet, also due to the fact that the 16GB and 32GB model's used dual SSD's, whereas the 8GB has a single SSD, so jailbreaking 8GB's with ZiPhone had a higher success rate than the dual SSD model's, but that was quickly fixed. Also, people who tried to jailbreak with the older ZiPhone with the newer version needed to fix the devices NVRAM. Once that was done, they could then properly jailbreak, no more "getting lucky" since ZiPhone didn't technically support iPod touch's until 2.6b when Zibri got his 32GB model. I agree, he's conceited, but then again, who isn't these days? Stick with what we KNOW works, and we KNOW ZiPhone works perfectly now.
