Hi!

Any idea how exactly to modify the cycline.plist or the agrafuese.plist for the 8800GT 1024MB model? maybe at <key>VRAM,totalsize</key> or is it much harder to tweak? or is the crash at the end of the applegraphicsupdate anohter bug of my leo install? 2 GTs?

thx for any help on this

Wow 1024MB model! I haven't been keeping up on the news lately - didn't know that was out yet. You'll have to keep your eyes open for someone who posts the VRAM data-string for 1024MB. I don't know what that would be. Maybe someone around here would know. You could also try asking someone over in Netkas' forums. The crash at the end of the graphics update is common, and you'll need to follow the rest of the tutorial in single user mode after you reboot. If you are unsure how to do that, PM me and I can tell you. I've been meaning to add an amendment to the tutorial on exactly how to do it, but I am being a bit lazy and don't want to do that right now ;) Are you really running 2 GTs? You're on your own there buddy. Haha!

Thank you for the fast help, i've done the rest in single user mode already. But anyway i'm gonna try it again since i have osx image backups at different clean stages to test with.

Maybe you mean the Vram data-sting "AAAAIA" for 512MB in the .plist? or is it something completely different?

well that i am one of very few with 2GT 1GB doesn't make me happy atm :)

TUTORIAL UPDATED TO VERSION 1.3!!

I changed Step 5 so that users are now directed to do everything in single user mode. You can still optionally take all the steps in normal mode if your system doesn't freeze or force you to reboot after the graphics update. Single user mode is recommended, however.

Right, and yes, it will be something different...I just don't know what.
The reason for this is not clearly defined, but it is believed that this is a bug that may even affect real mac users.

Quite right. On the Mac Pro, the thing goes into a mad blue flashing screen-o-rama on waking from sleep or attempting to change the resolution if the single monitor is plugged into the wrong DVI port, at least under 10.5.2. Worryingly, that has a 7300GT so this bug must span at least two different NVidia kexts!

You'll have to keep your eyes open for someone who posts the VRAM data-string for 1024MB. I don't know what that would be.

maybe this will help,

but i've not tested it yet

ah, good to know. the only thing is, those hexidecimal numbers are what you'd use in a plist editor, but what are the raw plist file versions of that? for example: "00000020" in a plist editor is "AAAAIA" in the plist file. would you be able to find out if you put "0000040" in a plist editor for 1024MB, and then open the plist file in a text editor to see what comes up?

thank you for all your help, i figured it out already. im now running 4cores with the 8800gt, had to unplug one card ,sound ok, 10.5.2 update, golden kernel 9.0 :)

took me almost a week

only the "unknown cpu"+"unnown nvidia" and "256mb vram" in system profiler is strange but seems to be absolutely no problem after all

--edit:--

but that i have to unplugt the second card is more than annoying, i can hardly find any infos about two equal card on Leo. i see no way to boot up with 2 cards since drivers are installed, when i boot with the lower card only the pcie string (gfxutil -f display) is different,ok, and gfxutil -i -o puts a identical hex.

any ideas how to solve this two cards boot problem?

It didn't work for me....

Hello, Thank agrafuese for the tutorial,

I followed it letter by letter

at the end i got the same thing i had before

I have EVGA 8800GT 512 showing unknown nvidia model with 256mb

is there something i can do manually? and does this affects my card performance ??

Thank you again

view my Graphics card system info Leosmacpro.tiff

I followed your instructions agrafuese, rebooted, everythings fine until I get to what should be the mac welcome screen but my monitor says theres no signal.

I tried rebooting and using the right dvi port same thing.

I'm running Zephyroth's 10.5.2 with the 9.2.0 kernel so I have EFIv8.

full specs in sig.

EDIT: I F'ed up! problem resolved

@nils82: what release/version of leopard are you running? is it iAtkos? which plist file did you use? mine or cyclonefr's?

@jxa4508: did you really get this to run on a GTS? it shouldn't work, but i guess if it did, we won't ask questions, right? haha. if you want to do this with the 1GB version, just see the above posts on how to get 1GB to show up in system profiler.

@lateralusman: did you use my kexts? did you make sure to delete the ones that leopard graphics update installs first? did you make sure to delete NVinject.kext? which plist file did you use? mine or cyclonefr's?

I'm using Kalyway kernel version 9.2.0

I used cyclonefr

by the way after this tutorial didnt work with my card

I flashed my EVGA with the Mac Pro 8800GT rom but it didnt fix anything

I fixed my problem

Here are my steps to get my card fully working

I downloaded NVInstallerV.34.pkg (google it) then I installed it by choosing both options 256MB and 512MB

after reboot I edited inside info.plist the name of the card to Nvidia 8800GT I corrected permissions by chmod and chown another reboot and everything is fine!

look at the screenshot Screen.tiff

By the way NVInstallerV.41.pkg gave me nothing but trouble I recommend 3.4 which worked great in my case

My card is EVGA 8800Gt 512MB

Mobo Asus P5W DH DELUXE

4 GIGS RAM

PSU 700 Watts

Well, glad you got it to work, although NVInstaller uses the NVinject method to recognize your card. So it's not using the EFI string anymore. If you still have that string in your com.apple.Boot.plist, you may want to remove it just so there aren't any conflicts later down the line (just a suggestion, but nothing I can prove). If you want to give the EFI method another try, you know where to find us :( But in all honestly, it's really just for bragging rights because it gives you the same performance that NVinject does. It's just prettier, haha.

I reinstalled osx so I can have a fresh install. I followed your tutorial to the letter and no more black screen!

Alright so using the DVI port closest to the mobo (left) my mouse doesn't move its stuck at it's default spot at the top left hand corner hovering over the apple logo. I can left and right click but no movement.

When I switch to the other (right) DVI port the mouse works. Everything seems fine, got 1680x1050, except no QE/CI ;)

I used your plist

So strange. I haven't heard of this mouse problem before. Is it a USB mouse? Also, does your card work okay in Windows? No weird problems or anything? It almost sounds like some kind of hardware conflict or something. What if you unplug your mouse and put it in a different port (assuming it's USB and not PS2). If that doesn't work, try to get your card to work with NVinject instead of the string method. Make sure the NVinject you use has the proper DeviceID inside of its info.plist. 0x061110de. make sure permissions are correct, etc. If it works that way, then your system just doesn't want to accept strings from EFI for whatever reason. If that doesn't work, maybe something about your card is different from most cards...

No its a PS/2 mouse I have yet to get USB working at all... :(

yes it works fine in windows and can play games just fine.

I tried NVinject V.41 I got that same result, I got full resolution but no QE/CI and the mouse problem on the left DVI.

If NVinject isn't working for you either, then that's a problem. Also, the left DVI port is the one you need. Without it, you're in for more (and different) problems. I'd definitely look into that USB problem first, and try to get that working at least. Even though PS/2 is tiding you over right now, it's not right to be running Leo without USB support. It's a sign that there are some incompatibilities between your mobo and Leopard. Video could be the least of your problems at this point if other things are not working properly. Wish I had a better answer for you. :star_sunglasses: Good luck though, hope you can get it all figured out.
