They probably track it (I don't really know). And if they do, it will be a serious violation of law. I mean, their agreement doesn't say that my information is available for their data mining. And yeah, I also entered my real address/names/etc. But I'm still here :)

entering your details on the registration is mainly so you can get your details into Address Book, as well as setting up your main account. Then, when OSX comes up, it has your details already! wow... it just works! (Face it, if it was left to people to enter their stuff into Address book later, hardly anyone would do it).

All you have to do is unplug your internet during install, then say "register later".

They don't track it. You can skip it and ever enter it. If they did track you with it I think they would require you to register or even aask for a SN.

I just installed 10.4.1 and I didn't see any option to skip. Oh well, I filled it out correctly. I can't get on the Internet yet anyways :pope:.

Ya I releised I was thinking of when it asks if you want to send your infomation.

xiberia is pretty much right on the money, its only used to get your infomation into the Address book.

For some strange reason, after the VMware install chewed through "talking with Apple", it finally came back with an error dialog telling me I couldn't use that name (it was taken), I believe in reference to the short name of the initial account...

...but it could be it got my .mac credentials and discovered they were associated with some other computer (the connection was good - it pulled up my address info from the net). I thought .mac credentials can be used on any number of Macs you may own... but what else could that error have meant?
